@@hardyad2102 the 62 is a stunning aircraft, but something about the 42 just makes me prefer it. I really like the 42's canopy. It also has a shorter wingspan. It should be much easier to find a hangar it can fit in. I don't see a need for more than 4 seats for what my mission would be. And finally I'm pretty short. The 42 appears to have a lower dash than the 62, making VFR easier for myself.
@hardyad2102
@hardyad2102 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrFuzzylang That's really interesting input. I'm in the market for a twin and the 42 falls under the minimum weight for Eurocontrol air navigation charges which is nice & 3 ft shorter. But, for the most part, these 2 aircraft would have identical operating costs.

Got my multi, instrument, commercial in the 310R at an Air Force aero club back in the early 2000's. Loved that plane! N6104X. Cost $139/hr wet to rent at the time. Ahh, the good old days!

@@talononeguy I was flying with an instructor for a while last year and after fuel the 172G we flew came out to like $180/hr wet. And that was for a dubiously maintained, steam gauge, peeling paint, oil consuming heap. In retrospect with almost no engine out options on either end of KRWY that was perhaps riskier than it should’ve been. But it flew and we were happy!

My dad had a flight training and charter company back in 1980 and for a while had a Cessna 310 which was a beaut. there's a reason the Air Force used these planes. Unfortunately the 1980 recession made it impossible to keep the plane, or the business flying

Could you do a modern piper seminole? These 6 seater twins are a little too costly for me to operate. I still prefer the redundancy of a twin and the peace-of-mind of a newer aircraft. The seminole seems like a piper arrow, but with 2 weaker engines instead of 1 stronger one. I'd prefer the redundancy of 2 engines over water. Not able to decide if the seminole is the right aircraft to buy since its primarily a trainer, and there isnt many videos on it having private owners. I have 2 main questions - Whats its operating cost? Hows its single engine preformance? (Can you successfully return to an airport with a failed engine over water?)

How about the Diamond DA-62? Their sales and marketing videos, right here on YT, claim it's the cheapest twin to own (but not to buy as they're mostly new or near new right now), plus performance gets into shouting distance of some turbo-props (at a third of the cost they say). Would be interesting if your data digging matches that.
