Even with that complexity, the low fuel burn seems to make those diamond twins a perfect choice for flight schools... And half the fuel burn to an Aztec and a Baron will probably make someone feel less guilty to the enviroment. And comparing to getting training in an Aztec, I'd prefer do it in a DA42. when i did my multi-ifr, I choiced a flight school 100km away and paid 100/h more just because they've got some shiny new diamonds, unlike my local flight schools all using banged up aztec and seminoles.
@CompleteWalkaround2 жыл бұрын
Nice, that's commitment!
@Orzorn2 жыл бұрын
Yup, I've seen many people suggest that Diamond was probably targeting flight schools with their planes, because despite the sticker cost, the savings over many hours of flight in a year is going to be a lot higher burning Jet A. One of the downsides to learning on a DA62, so I've heard, is because you lack mixture and prop control, you aren't getting that learning into your curriculum if you ever do go and fly a plane that does have them. However, I've heard its a relatively small downside overcame by transition training.
@shiroyukiwang12522 жыл бұрын
@@Orzorn In Europe and many other part of the world, flight school graduates goes straight onto a jet, it’s meaningless for them to learn mixture and prop control. Those places also have less avgas available and significant price difference between jet fuel and avgas.
@pietrooliani3251 Жыл бұрын
@@Orzorn if i'm not mistaken da 42s do have the rpm lever, but as someone else said, in europe most students will go from those da 42 straight into an airliner so it doesn't really matter
@sdluke Жыл бұрын
@pietrooliani3251 it depends which engine you get. You can have DA42s with the Lycoming which comes with prop/mixture levers, or you can get the Austro engines which have FADEC so only have Throttle. DA40 have the same options. But the DA62 only have the Austro choice. I did AMEL in the 42 with Austro engines and they were such fun planes to fly in, but maintainance is dificult.

It's a lot more fun than a twin (or single) turboprop ! It's still a small plane when it comes to flying. Also, to me pressurization is actually a downside because you get small windows, especially for the back rows. It's not longer a fun flying experience and it becomes a travel in some interior (which can be pleasant but that you can get much much cheaper with other means of transportation).
@julianbrelsford2 жыл бұрын
Can be very affordable to fly in a pressurized aircraft but every time I do, I have to put up with TSA screening & follow the schedules that the airlines have already decided upon. It's not the only way I personally have traveled by air, but close to it.

I will note that some people have issues with the gearboxes, and there's a timing chain issue if you windmill start the engines. I think that pilot behavior influences these, but they are quite expensive if you run into it, adding many tens of dollars per hour to the maintenance budget.

Price is off by an order of magnitude. I flew the demonstrator N628DC and it's very nice. Hangar space will be challenging. FADEC and auto-run up is awesome. Turbo diesel tech is fantastic and it's nice to use Jet-A. I will say it felt a little underpowered-- slippery design helps, but she comes down fast when configured for landing. High wing loading soaks up bumps like a champ. Overall a great type, but for 1.5 million you could buy a used 421 and have several years' operating expenses in hand (and have a much more capable airplane).

@Mike Kabakov Do you think a 58P or 58TC costs more to own than a standard 58?
@CompleteWalkaround2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Good question. 58 Barons come in many flavors. New and old. A huge part of the da26 cost is insurance and hangar. An older 58 baron could cost 1/4 of what a da62 would cost to buy and insurance would be reduced by a similar ratio. Baron fits in a t-hangar. Older barons have no deice, no AC, basically less of everything. Less to maintain. New barons have similar systems as a da62 and only slightly less expensive to buy/insure. TC cost more to maintain than naturally aspirated barons and P barons cost more than TC. Generally big bucks across the board. Thanks for watching
