I remember that thing with the female comic Ari talks about. I can't remember her name, but she was approached by a blog that's express purpose was to document moments of sexism from male comics. And when she said that the only negative experiences she has had as a comic were other females they got really pissed off at her.

@@brandonjpj1 It's not my analogy, it was from Seneca, 2000 years ago (look at the quotation marks). Jealousy or envy is invisible in our society because everyone is expected to be polite, or else come off as an (honest) asshole. As long as everyone is expected to be polite, we really don't know what people actually think about us. But a hint of a person's true feelings is whether or not someone shows any outward admiration towards you. Because there isn't any honest human being in the world who says that they don't want the admiration that others are lucky to have. We all want to be loved too.

Psychologists talk about the "normalcy bias" in situations where people just lock up and do nothing. There are stories of planes crashing, and a percentage of the survivors staying seated while the whole plane caught fire. Conscious, but as if still safely flying thousands of feet up. Those who weren't shaken lose stayed and burned. Our brains have a limiter on them that can kick in and say "Nope, impossible, shit is popping off WAY TOO QUICK" and you become biased to believe everything is as normal as ever. You were in a normal plane ride, not abnormal crash. Or, you were in a normal party, not an abnormal violent crime scene.
