Jealousy or envy is invisible in our society because everyone is expected to be polite, or else come off as an (honest) asshole. As long as everyone is expected to be polite, we really don't know what people actually think about us. But a hint of a person's true feelings is whether or not someone shows any outward admiration towards you. Because there isn't any honest human being in the world who says that they don't want the admiration that others are lucky to have. We all want to be loved too.
