In this video we experiment with speed and lines per inch (LPI) in our LightBurn layer settings to achieve a 50% reduction in engraving time, learning the effects of Lpi and speed setting will pay big dividends in time savings. Give it a try you will be shocked. There was very little difference between these two ornaments.
Hold down pins.

Just happened to see you video, so am not familiar with laser engraving but I am familiar with motion control. With the scanning process think about all the time spent not being over where you want to engrave. I wonder if somebody created software that generated a tool path that travels almost exclusively over the engraving area? I would think this would greatly reduce your time with low engraving area density projects.

Great question. On a thunder laser when you turn air assist off it really means low volume air. You never want allot of air flow when engraving. High air just pushes the vaporized material back on your work. I engrave with a whisper of air. Much cleaner work off the laser.

I have tried changing the y and x axis to max but I am not sure what the max should be as there is so much information on the forums I am confused. The speed should only be 80% of the max, but I am not sure what that is and do not want to break anything. I have copied the settings from the Leetro controller but that doesnt seem to work either. When I do a circle engrave I figure how thick I want my line then draw the circle and use the offset function on the toolbar on the left to make the line as thick I would like. I then set this to a line layer. When the laser engraves it the head just goes in a circle continuously until it is engraved. The thing about it is that the laser is firing all the time instead of so much dead time as it scans back and forth. Now I'd bet he could knock another 35 to 40 seconds off the time on those ornaments. I have a diode laser so I really can't be sure about the time savings on a co2 laser.

@@krisknowlton5935 I do that too - any solidly marked borders become say 5 or 7 vectors with minute offsets, and they get done in a minute fraction of the time from a raster.
@krisknowlton5935
@krisknowlton5935 2 жыл бұрын
@@ianstewart-koster9982 and now I use the 'Offset fill' function. It does what we were doing manually automatically. In other words, if you want a border that is 3 mm wide just make your two border lines 3mm apart (make sure they are on a separate layer) then select 'Offset Fill'. LightBurn does the tedious work for you. I wish I had tried that function out sooner because it would have saved me a lot of design time and I wouldn't have looked like a dummy. Jason has packed a lot into LightBurn. The more you use it, the more you discover. I just wish all this was around when I was a young man because then I would have known what I wanted to do when I grew up.

A little expensive but I can use it as much as meeded and no hand fatigue! www.amazon.com/Festool-576070-Random-Orbital-REQ-Plus/dp/B084DVBHSB/ref=asc_df_B084DVBHSB/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=416760125247&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10101638903809036474&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030849&hvtargid=pla-898759482668&psc=1&mcid=2e13026a254e371fb78eb5a189d02e14&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=95471650498&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=416760125247&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10101638903809036474&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030849&hvtargid=pla-898759482668&gclid=CjwKCAiAjrarBhAWEiwA2qWdCKriPyDOnAOg6-6TSmjBrC-JNPPK-UiQp9ifK0B1f-PgQn5S11pX2xoCNOAQAvD_BwE

Question about defocusing. How do you handle that when most times an engraving is combined with cutting? I would expect these ornaments also get cut out. Are you running that job totally separately?
@computercreationz
@computercreationz 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on how thick your material is. If it’s 1/8” I will do both without re focusing. Thicker I may choose to run separately

Do you ever use flood fill robert?
@computercreationz
@computercreationz 2 жыл бұрын
yes, I don’t like it, it will stop engraving right in the middle of a frame and jump around they go back and when it does it leaves artifact’s. from what I understand it designed for diode lasers that are slower.

@@computercreationz Thanks! I have only ever engraved wood using a diode, so having this thunder laser is going to be a whole new ballgame for me. How do you select the types of wood you use to cut, and where do you purchase it in sheets? Thanks!
@computercreationz
@computercreationz 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshuas5504 I too came from a diode laser, they do great engraving just very slow! You will love your Thunder laser. Top quality Baltic birch is a great place to start, don’t buy fro the big box stores they sell wood for construction not laser use and you will hate it. Maple and cherry hardwood is awesome as well but expensive. All substrates are a little pricey now but what isn’t. Enjoy your new laser!

Not sure I understand your statement. These lasers engrave exactly where your svg lines are illustrated. De focus is for darker engraving

GREAT JOB ON THE VIDEO, THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION, I GOT A LASER ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I HAVE BEEN PLAYING AROUND ON CARDBOARD (FROM BOXES CUT UP), AND IT TOOK ME SOME TIME, PLAYING WITH THE SETTINGS, I WILL TRY LESS LINES, I INCREASED THE LINES ITS VERY DARK AND THE DETAIL IS NOT AS GOOD AS A BIT LOWER ON THE LINES, IM USING LASER GBRL, I IN THE PROCESS OF LEARNING LIGHTBURN, YES LIGHTBURN DOES HAVE A LOT OF FEATURES BUT IT A BIG LEARNING CURVE, LASER GBRL IS VERY EASY TO USE, I DO LIKE LASER GBRL A LOT BECAUSE ITS EASY TO USE, AND IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG TO GET THE FEEL OF THE SOFTWARE, IT TOOK ME ABOUT 2 HOURS TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO ENGRAVE AN IMAGE WITH LIGHTBURN, IT TOOK ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES TO ENGRAVING AN IMAGE(THATS DOING CHANGES TO THE IMAGE AND THHE SET UP ON LASER GBRL), I FOUND THAT CARDBOARD IS A GREAT PRACTICE, IT TEACHES HOW NOT TO OVER POWER THE LASER, I HAVE A COUPLE OF IMAGES THAT SLIGHTLY BURNED THROUGH, WHATS REALLY NICE WITH CARDBOARD, IF YOU SCREW UP OR WANT TO PLAY AROUND WITH DIFFERENT SETTING AND IT DOES NOT WORK OUT, ITS EASY TO DISPOSE OF THE MISTAKE, I AM AMAZED HOW GREAT THINGS CAN LOOK ON CARDBOARD, I HAVE MANY DIFFERENT IMAGES I HAVE USED AND THEY LOOK LIKE A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO PRINTED ON CARDBOARD, I KNOW I HAVE A LOT MORE TO LEARN, I AM ABOUT READY TO MOVE FROM CARDBOARD TO TILE, METALS, 4MM ACRYLIC CLEAR SHEETS, GLASS, WOOD, SO I GOT A LOT OF WORK, RUNNING TEST, AND MUCH MORE, I HAVE FOUND HOW INTERESTING IT IS HOW MANY DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND ITEMS CAN BE ENGRAVED, AND THE MANY WAYS THINGS CAN BE ENGRAVED WITH THE LASER, IT SEEMS IT DOES NOT MATER IF YOU HAVE A 3 WATT LASER OR A 1000 WATT LASER THE END RESULTS CAN BE GREAT TO AWESOME, ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION
