I know I will! My family lived in New Germany 1988-1992 and my father ran Comrades in 1990 and 91. He will be watching as I follow his footsteps 34 years later!

Very interesting video. Can I ask why you can’t have earphones? I couldn’t imagine sound such a long marathon without music to keep me motivated
@andremaakal60697 ай бұрын
I think it has something to do with: When you run with earphones you might not hear Marshal / Referee instructions or traffic. Also, it could be possible for someone to transmit pacing to the runner that is not allowed for the elite runners. I do not use earphones --> I want to hear mother nature and the runners around me. There are some runners who ran with a portable speaker and broadcasted music along the way. Some in their hands, others carried it in a backpack.
@Brad20-uo5lc7 ай бұрын
@@andremaakal6069 ah thanks so much for the reply. That does make sense. Having seen a few videos of the marathon, all the people cheering the runners on from the side are amazing. I wouldn’t want to miss out on their support. That would be motivation enough :)

Great video, thanks. Last tip reminded me that I shouldn’t forget chamois cream. I noticed on long races that I started chaffing in an area totally unexpected, between the butt cheeks. I couldn’t understand why this was happening, I broke it down as to why it only happens in races but never in training, turns out it was the water I was pouring over my head and chest that was dripping down something I don’t do in training.

The blanket is a great recommendation for before the race. However, what do you do with it when you start running?
@andremaakal60697 ай бұрын
@ricardofernandes7606, I donate the blanket. When they open the seeding pens and we move forward, then I throw it to the side over the fence. There will be someone out there who will sleep warmer that night.
