I met Jim Carrey on a bus in Fairfield, Iowa. He was charming and funny-not overly manic, but he showed hints of it-and talked to everyone on the bus (twice)...at least 30 people in all. I’ll never forget it.

@AveSicarius4 жыл бұрын
Outbreaks such actually should be far more common than they are, the last SARS outbreak was less impactful because international travel was less ubiquitous, and as such was largely confined to China, where intranational travel was also less prevalent (they know have very cheap high speed rail). Many pathologist's are surprised this hasn't happened far more often with viral threats emerging all over the world. We are very lucky to have only had minor threats, though the fear mongering surrounding them has shown each one to apocalyptic in scale for various reasons. In fact with very basic effective control taken early on this outbreak wouldn't be a problem, nor would most outbreaks. Unfortunately government incompetence makes this threat much worse than it should be, which is the most terrifying aspect of this for me. This is a practice run, one we are failing magnificently.

@@incentiveeee Vague government? I can name specific individuals who have failed in their position. I have spent the last 7 years in the biological sciences, I know very much about pathology and pathological control, and it's easy to take personal preventative measures based on that. Want to know something interesting? The advisors for several governments who have notoriously failed during this time have all been far more educated than I, are far more qualified than to recommend solutions than I, and they suggested barriers to international transport and quarantine of infected areas before the virus spread throughout the whole population, they were ignored, and as a result several hundred thousand people are dead. Are you telling me Trump, Boris Johnson, the Italian government, the Swedish government, and so on have succeeded at their position when people have died through their negligence. You can easily stop viral spread through several methods, the most effective of which is a strict quarantine. They aren't some mystical force of nature that spreads by itself across the entire planet, it needs to be facilitated through personal contact and inter/intranational travel both of which are easily regulated if you take steps to do so. Greece, China, and many other nations took more strict stances on quarantine, and what do you know far less people per million died. Take a look at the mortality ratio between Greece and Switzerland, both very similar in population size and geographic dispersion, note that Sweden has over 20x the fatalities while also have near perfect conditions for PREVENTING viral spread due to their lifestyle, then tell me that the respective governments are not responsible for this based on their approaches. I guess the coming economic recession, deluge of unemployment, and growing economic concerns are not the fault of certain nations governments either, right?

I know what you are talking about and I agree. But, he'll never actually be gone because legends never die. He, Robin Williams...and many others, will never be forgotten and are legends as you said, no matter live or dead. Cheers, mate!

He's funny and all but not to the level of Candy or especially Short. There was a time in the 90s for Jim though and he made his money.
