I'm so happy for Billy that he's finding newer and deeper levels of creative territory and expressing from that vantage wonderfully. All the Atum songs have so much to parse, making relistens very rewarding. It reminds me of the Prince album Lovesexy, or Bob Pollard's first solo album "Not in My Airforce", in that it's such a departure from what was, and the freedom afforded by this earned evolution yields an ornate tapestry of a wonderland that one can explore for many fulfilling hours.

I used to work at a small record label in Belgium; when things weren't financially going well, the best thing to do, apparently, was to physically destroy all of our unsold vinyl albums at a waste disposal plant, while observed by a notary. We're talking about thousands of records being run over by a bulldozer. As a young guy, new to the music industry, it was heartbreaking to watch. I wish I could've at least taken a picture of this tremendously bizarre event, to give it a place later on in my life - but I wasn't allowed to. This conversation really reminded me of that moment, now eighteen years ago. Capitalism is weird.

He's a strange character. He is capable of being extremely humble, but also extremely narcissistic. As a guitar player and arranger, he really is gifted. Some of the most fantastic solos I've ever heard. I rank him up there with Michael Bloomfield, Jeff Beck, and Peter Green. With that being said, I do consider him to be a savant guitarist. He is wholly original, and I can always tell when it's Billy on guitar. That's a rare thing to accomplish.

I've only in the last few years, come to realize, just how much the world is all about money and power by the various corporations and individuals that have huge influence over it, in regards to the comment about the Q&A regarding making a larger musical project at 3:58. It is the primary factor in almost every major decision and what guides any large business. There is no triple bottom line with these companies, regardless of whatever BS they want to put out there on their P.R. fluff channels on Twitter or the like. Not that I realize the full extent of what goes on in corporate boardrooms and with politicians but I've come to realize this and it only reinforces it, when I pay attention to events of the world.
@EBR846 Жыл бұрын
However, this guy ain't that bright. He almost makes me feel smart. He's claiming he's a libertarian free-market capitalist in one publication but then seems genuinely puzzled by the corporate boardroom decisions that based on this interview and my deductions, want a smaller music project (or to not do it). Kind of funny and honestly a bit of a turn off.
