What an awesome collection. I bought my first conan comic book in 1987. Issue 192. Up until a few years ago I had around 700 conan comics but ended up losing 90 % of the collection due to gambling. It not easy looking at this video as I see so many issues I use to own. I have been able to buy a few back but I've still only got a fraction of what in use to own. Don't ever gamble.

@@MattWoodsComics yeah I'm looking forward to this Netflix adaption of conan. It can go either way, either mediocre or really great. It's a shame only 3 movies have been made. There is so much you can do with Conan and the world he lives in. They were even contemplating making a movie in the 1930s. Almost a hundred years later and we only have 3 movies. Shame.

Matt..what a great Conan collection. I have to say I really like the Conan #1 from 1970. It's impressive how many u have. Reminds me of of my Hulk and FF collection..but it's not completed yet.. but I have quite a few Silver/Bronze age Hulk and a good run of silver age FF 20-85. Always appreciate seeing the room and the 'artistic license' your camera man takes and shows parts of the room when your looking for books lol. Might as well make the best use of footage 😀. Always good to see some videos from u and all the cool things the background offers. That Ghost Rider book on the blue wall, the ASM 129 on the front of one of the drawers just to name a couple. And I like how u showed the first comic book u ever bought. I still have mine also. Talk to u soon. 😀

@@MattWoodsComics I agree, not all are gold, but i love them all anyways. I have a majority of the paperbacks, and a few hardcovers as well of Robert E. Howards. I love that Marvel is doing all the Omnibuses as well, now I can leave my singular issues alone and still read them in those. I am also a gigantic Frank Frazetta fan, so I have a ton of his stuff as well. They almost go hand in hand. I seriously need to do some cabinets like you have, because space is at a premium and the collection has been growing for so many years that I am running out of room, haha.
@johnjenkins89184 жыл бұрын
@@MattWoodsComics I'll have to look those cabinets up, they would make my life so much easier! I collect Red Sonja's older books, but i just can't do the ones from Dynamite. It isn't that i don't like them, it's that there are a million variants. So i pick them up when I catch them in the dollar bins. I get Kull, Solomon Kane and some other Howard properties. Well, honestly I collect a little of everything comic wise, but I have been trying to slim down the collection some. I don't have that Hildebrant cover, I believe it was your 1 in 500. I'm in the same boat with you on the Skottie Young covers. He has done some amazing work, but i just don't like his Conan stuff. I recently found 2 Conan books that I didn't know existed. One was from Funcom, and another I think was an Age of Conan from the old PC Game maybe? I think i saw on one of the old posts that I was reading that you have an IG account? I think mine is jvjenkinsiii . I don't have much on mine, but I can take some photos and put them on there.

Enjoyed this video. I have been a Conan collector since the 70s, so I particularly enjoyed seeing your collection. You have done a great job collecting what looks like full runs of all the original series as well as the Dark Horse and new Marvel runs. Do you also collect any Conan/REH books or the original Weird Tales as well? Love your cabinet work too by the way.
@rayloobzer2984 жыл бұрын
@@MattWoodsComics Ha, that's funny. Hope you entered already, this week's book is pretty sweet (as they always are). I had a similar experience to yours as a kid. My Mom brought me home a couple of the original Conan Del Ray paperbacks from the library...probably mid-70s. I devoured them and read all 12 along with all the subsequent books from other authors. I was always primarily a comic collector as a kid so at that point it was natural to start picking up the Marvel Conan books as well. I always loved the cover art on SSOC, but couldn't afford those mags along with all the comics I was always getting. Thus my SSOC is nowhere near complete, though I am going to fix that eventually. Like you, I did keep up with all the Dark Horse stuff and am doing so with the new Marvel lines too. Also like you, I have NOT obtained every single variant. Its amazing you managed to track down all 25 for that first issue. That Hildebrandt one is not easy or cheap. There are just too many to keep with, so I haven't really tried. I was so glad to see Conan come back to Marvel though. A UK company (now defunct) called Wandering Star published all of Howard's original Conan stories (with extras) in 3 gorgeous slip-cased volumes a number of years ago. Those are worth looking at for any Conan collector. You might like them. The Weird Tales books would be nice...but those are basically all golden age, so not easy to obtain. Maybe some day! Its always a pleasure to talk with a fellow comic AND Conan collector! Keep up the good work on the channel. Good stuff so far Matt.

That run is in my humble opinion the best writing in comics. It doesn’t get a lot of the attention that it deserves. I think a lot of modern collectors don’t realize that magazine sized comics are a big part of comic book history. Congratulations on finishing that epic run.
@RexmanJ2 жыл бұрын
@@MattWoodsComics I agree! Savage sword has one of the best collection of artists and that mixed with Howards epic stories are a match made in Croms court! Really cool stuff man! But now when I'm here I feel the need to ask, where should one begin if interested to read these? I love Conan and the Robert E Howard stories, but I've NEVER been a fan of comic books. In fact, it's something that I've always had a rough time taking seriously, but in recent years I've grown a more interest in them and I would like to give them a chance and explore what people like about them so much :) Could you help me out a little? :)
@Wabin223 жыл бұрын
@@MattWoodsComics Hey man, thanks for sharing your info and experience with comics :) Well my old prejudice was also that comic books were mostly for children but I also knew there were adult stories, it was just the comic book format with speech bubbles and to me art that really didn't appealed to me. But I love art so I took an art analytics class which opened my eyes to more stuff that I didn't like before, like Anime and Manga. And since I read a lot of novels and like I said before love the original Conan Stories, I feel like a fool if I wouldn't give the comic Conan a chance. I've seen that there are some collection which goes for about 40 dollars here in Sweden, which I think is perfectly all right, seems like some of the cheapest and best ways to get the stories if you're not a die hard collector? I've also been interested in the Savage Sword of Conan since people say they were a bit more graphic and "adult", what are your thoughts on those? I really appreciate you taking the time, thanks man :)
