I watched Three's Company in three separate phases. Once when they originally aired when I was young, once in re-runs where I sort of thought "These are all kind of juvenile and same-y..." and then a third time where I just appreciated what a master of physical comedy John Ritter was.
@4seeableTV Жыл бұрын
I watched the show under similar circumstances. Loved it as a young person, but when I grew up, I saw just how unsophisticated the show was. It's like watching community theater. But like you said, you have to appreciate his physical talents.

For a lot of us Gen Xers and older Millennials, this show is a time capsule of the late 1970s/early 1980s, when our parents were young adults in their 20s or early 30s and still being called "the kids".
@thunkjunk4 ай бұрын
76er here. I miss those days. My parents had one of those black and white TV/Radio combos. What was the screen; about 6 inches and a long antennae? lol. We sat at the kitchen table watching Three's Company and I can remember my young parents laughing at John RItter's antics.
@John-ct9zs4 ай бұрын
@@thunkjunk Yeah 1975 here. Growing up I never understood why the Ropers and Mr. Furley called Jack, Janet and Chrissy "kids", because they looked like grown adults to me. Now that I'm late 40s and getting closer and closer to Mr. Ropers age, I get why people start calling a 22 or 25 year old, or even a 30 year old "kids" when you get to a certain age. When you're a little kid and you see older adults call younger adults that, it's kinda confusing. Until you turn into Mr. Roper/Mr. Furley.

Still remember doing some live theatre in the 90s. I had moved to a new city where I knew nobody, went out for a part, and ended up with the role. It was a fairly tight company of performers and I had a bit of a tough time getting in with them, being a brash, overconfident younger (22 yrs old) member. Then one day at rehearsal and being comfortable with my lines I started adding some physical comedy to my bits, before we had started doing the fine tuning of the blocking. When we all sat down after and the director asked me how I wanted to play the part physically I said "I'm picturing in my head how John Ritter would play this". All the older theatre people loved me from that moment onward for my "inspired" choice. Thanks John for what you brought to acting.
