In 1984 when I was 17, I went to a Billy Joel concert at the forum in LA with a friend. After the concert, we weazled our way into the Forum Club which is a bar for VIPs. We spent the remainder of the night taking turns walking around Christie Brinkley to check her out up close.

Billy showed up at the bar I was working in greenwich village in the 90s. His guitar player played out every night and that night Billy walks in. They got him on stage and if you want surreal...try standing two feet away from Billy Joel while he wails away...on a guitar! I've had fever dreams that made more sense.

I remember seeing the video of the deserted, devastated plaza between the twin towers on 9/11, before they collapsed. Eerie, strewn with paper and debris and bodies, probably. Silent except for the plaza speakers grinding out a muzak version of, "Always a Woman to Me," and I thought that must have been really weird for him if he saw that.
