If you are long time Conan fan, you might know that Conan has tough days for first 3-4 years by network an critics. And since you know that, this comedy bit is genuine conquest of his past struggles. It's sad, but other side, beauty of him. Love you CONAN! :)

I remember this one! I think when they came back from commercial, the set and the audience was back to normal and everyone acted like nothing had happened. It was so funny!

That's interesting, I always wondered if this was a bit for the end of a series where they intended to change the shows set as they did for many years. But I guess not then if they brought it all back. When he got rid of the little room looking set in the corner, and had the traditional skylines and what looked to be bigger, things started feeling right. He was still funny in that first desk and backdrop but it looked like something from a PBS show.

Back in college, I had a VHS tape that I'd use to record these segments after the first commercial but before the first guest. I'd rewind and record over the last night's section if I didn't like it enough. Needless to say, the tape is full of amazing bits. This, and the embryonic, polka-doted, rockabilly fighter-pilots song, were among the most prized of my recorded segments.

Watching this one skit not only reminds me of how great the humor of the NBC Late Night era was but also helps me realize that the current half hour TBS era is a return to form of sorts to this level of comedy. Also, this skit would’ve made for a killer end to the Late Night era 11 years ago.
