I MISS the old Classic Game shows like Concentration, Tic Tac Dough, and Joker's wild. I ALSO noticed that when Johnny Olson said what the prizes were, that they used The Price Is Right Music when Johnny was saying the prizes. Kind of COOL hearing Game show Music from a Certain Gameshow on a different game show too. ;)

My mother Patricia was on Concentration in Jan of 1972. I am still searching for that one! :) My mother said my father was in the audience (and on the show). He was killed a few weeks after the show in a car crash. It would be incredible if I could see that episode :) and my mom would love to see it again after all these years :)

January 1972, the show was still on NBC daytime at 30 Rock in New York. That version unfortunately is mostly wiped out except for a handful of episodes sadly. This syndicated run of Concentration began in the fall of 1973.

I now wonder, for the Double Play puzzles, if a harder puzzle (or two) would quickly be substituted, had the Chevette been the big prize. I say that, because I remember some rather "cruel" puzzles back during the early run of the Narz shows ("The Brothers Karamazov," anybody?)....

Since the first game ended with no contestant winning, why didn't they edit that game out in post production? Regarding the quick start prizes, why not use them over again in the new game until someone wins? I heard that this version of Concentration was done on "shoestring" budget. Would it have been that expensive to re-tape the first segment until there was a winner?
@WREYtube
@WREYtube 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think it had anything to do with budget and everything to do with fairness. To replay the strikeout would have been unfair to all the other players on the show, whom only had 2 chances at the double play (regardless of what their puzzles were). This is different than a strikeout in Password, where you have to keep playing until you reach a goal and an edit would eliminate dead time on the way to a goal... here you were two and done, so whatever happened was the way it was going to be. If the rules were more like the later stages of the show in the 90s, when it was 2 out of 3, strikeouts would probably have been edited out and replayed. :)
@rodney1279TheFlip
@rodney1279TheFlip 10 жыл бұрын
They did not do too much editing in the 70s. That was what made game shows fun back then, because the were realistic. I love Jack Narz. He really want the contestants to win. I can tell. However he does not take any crap from no one when it is a wrong guess. That is why I love Jack Narz.

Briguy52748 I would kinda be surprised if there were any complete show failures. Presumably, they tested the potential contestants on their ability to solve rebuses. I don't believe they would had completely incompetent players trotted out there (Those were the days when they cared about contestant quality, unlike today except for Jeopardy). I think this was just one of those very rare puzzles (Had the arrows been on the chin, it would have also made a legitimate phrase). :)

Interesting to note, Jack in his honesty, said 18:27 - we had saved a little time at the end so we could read all that and now we don't have to so I'm going to do a little song and dance, I guess". The timer guy intentionally ended the game early thinking that Linda could win, causing the plug read. Interesting TPIR/Concentration music trades. :)

Doubly interesting given that had they *not* ended the game then, she could've continued her turn and possibly won all that loot. In fact, right before the play-off she had an expression as if the solution had just come to her. Should've invited her back.

Don't like the fact that if a Wild Card matched a prize the natural match wasn't revealed, so that when it DID get revealed it wouldn't have matched anything. Bad rule that.

Consider that this version had 30 spaces instead of 25 in Trebek's version. Yes, those created orphan spaces but you had an option to pass to the other player too. So, that's the trade off.
