Actually I just saw a skit of that reminds me of, but now I can't find it since I can't remember what it was called and it's not in my view history that I can find, maybe I'm seeing it but the preview image doesn't give it away. But a bunch of stupid aliens were pretending to be various countries' reps at the UN, and replacing them one at a time and the humans were so stupid they weren't noticing this was happening even though it was happening right in front of them and the aliens were roswell type gray aliens, and the top comment was "I refuse to believe politicians are this smart".

So we lose the Onion but get a lifetime of corny SNL. Why is this not considered the gold standard of comedy?
@hemipemi5 жыл бұрын
All comedy show formats get old eventually. SNL are more deliberately targeted at a wide audience, something for all ages, interests, and levels/varieties of intellect. The Onion is more of a cult thing. The Onion was special, at least, the early Onion was, because it struck on a relatively unexplored vein of comedy (lampooning broadcast news at a level of professionalism so high that people consistently believed it was real), that had basically never been done before, but that also makes it a harder sell to 'normal' people who like to be eased in to their programming on the back of something familiar and relatable. They want the neural pathways that they've already carved out and comfortably defined as pleasing to be tickled, as opposed to having new ones blasted open. Different strokes. A globally aging population coupled with a decline in TV viewing among young people means broadcast TV is more or less doomed to go that way. I've not watched it regularly in a long time.
@LAnonHubbard4 жыл бұрын
