Do your kitchen countertops also have the little nooks & crannies? Seems traditional to have a smooth surface but maybe not?
@GunpowderandFreedom3 жыл бұрын
Nope! That’s why I cream coat them, to make sure there aren’t any little cavities that will hold food or liquids. Thanks for watching!
@FJB20203 жыл бұрын
You can also do reverse casting. That leaves a silky smooth surface or leathery if you finish with 400/600 grit and don't polish.

@rolandpinette99463 жыл бұрын
This is much more labor intensive than I knew. It makes me wonder how it compares with the cost of other tops. One advantage that is immediately apparent is that a concrete top is highly customizable in dimension. I can't image the cost of doing that job with granite. Another thing I learned is that it is not necessary to use a bonding agent when mixing/applying the cream coat. I would have guessed some sort of acrylic latex additive to be used. Thanks for the education, Steven and Tom! (Edited to correct spelling.)
@GunpowderandFreedom3 жыл бұрын
So as long as you’re comparing apples to apples, concrete is anywhere from $30 to $50 per squarefoot less expensive. These are 100% customizable with an unlimited amount of colors to pick from. I really enjoy making them! Thanks for watching!
@FJB20203 жыл бұрын
I built some reverse cast countertops (a lot less labor intensive) that were 32" deep and 14' long and my all in cost was $300 (most of that was in the forms as the concrete to do it was $50 total). They turned out amazing and we will do it again for our new house.
@rolandpinette99463 жыл бұрын

Do you put much pressure down on your polisher, or mostly just using the weight of the polisher?
@GunpowderandFreedom3 жыл бұрын
I just use the weight of the polisher, that way it doesn’t destroy the pads or leave the top of the countertop wavey. Thanks for watching!

Took me back 50 years to the days of the old Terrazzo hands at Sacket Tile & Marble grinding floors and wall panels with German sandstone pads on the machines.. You have lighter and faster grinding equipment. A similar product created all the fake marble bathrooms that went into the precast concrete Marriott Motels that left East Rochester by truck and train. 1 bathroom a day cast from a single batch of concrete by an ancient Italian who figured out how to do it. Very minimal grinding on the bathrooms.

Very nice the ideas are endless . This would look great with bits of broken glass mixed it too . I will say you need a dedicated area to polish the tops . So you can filter and recycle the water . Plus it would make clean up of the shop a lot easier . Do you embed attach point into the slab so install is easier ?
