I would think intermittent sentences would also be more compatible with the goal of rehabilitation (and reintegration), reducing recidivism. That has benefits for both the accused and the system.

Another issue is that the allegation of breach of conditional sentence is proved on a balance of probabilities, even if the breach arises from underlying criminal offences that the person has not yet been convicted of. Courts have held that doing so does not violate the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, because the breach hearing is considered part of the sentencing process rather than a trial.
