Since we’ve said that moving out of Metro Manila is an option for us, we were also trying to weigh which kind of living situation would be the best option for us. In this episode, we talk about the pros and cons of living in both a house and condominium.

I've lived in our family's condo for 12 years and I can honestly say it has its own benefits. First thing is convenience. I live above a mall so I have everything I need within 5 mins walking distance. I never spend for transpo just to grocery or get a haircut, etc. Second, location. I'm in the middle of everything and all transpo options are available. Train, bus, jeep, fx lines are all accessible so kahit walang car okay lang. Central location also means it's near schools and offices so I save on time and tranpo costs also when I went to school or today going to work. Third, is security. Yes you pay condo dues, but that pays for security guards, maintainance, elevators (friendly for senior citizens or pwds), CCTVs, access cards, garbage disposal, etc. So as a single woman living alone, it gives me such a sense of peace that I'm safe. Lastly, stable utilities. I never experience water interruption or blackouts because it has backup systems. Internet is also very stable and all the different telecoms are available. P.S. Of course it depends on which condo you get. Some are better than others, so make sure you check everything first and shop around.

Condo is air-space, technically you do not own the land. You own x sqm in air-space if you buy a condo. You can rent it out or use for business purposes to generate income but if you plan to stay for good in your home, it's better if you buy a house and lot than a condo. For the same price of a small condo, you can buy a bigger space with house and lot (and you get to own the land!). It depends on your lifestyle too. :) excited for this!

Living a house is much much much better and the best than living a condo. In a house with a lot/land, you can do everything. You can have a real garden, plant trees, flowers, vegetables and even build your own swimming pool as u like. You can do everything. You typically owned it. Unlike in a condo, you cannot do everything. Because your space is the only unit u have. And the monthly dues ur paying is not practical not even the electricity bill and water bill. All the bills are jack up. It's a big difference.

Other things to discuss are: earthquakes, fire, noise of neighbors and when neighbors smoke and it seeps in your room. Staying at a rented condo was a horrible experience for me.

Living in a house is way more convenient and practical, especially when you have kids and your family are growing. In a condo, you're right, what you have is only the limited space and you don't own the lot. You can save up for the house maintenance and if its newly built, within 10 yrs, I think there's no maintenance yet or if there is very minimal. I suggest you build your own house for you and your future kids.

For investment Bahay (House) will give a better return when selling it after owning it for a few years or more. For Bachelors and Bachelorettes who prefer not to worry about providing doing self maintenance work to the property, condo or townhomes will probably works well for them. I recommend for a young family, owning a home is better. Reason for it is after we got married, we bought our first brand new home in 1972 in California for 25K monthly payment of $121.00 was hard at first. Now that home we sold years ago is close to 800K. The lesson to this, everything is hard at first but pays-off if you are willing to work hard.

House is preferable for me, for the pros that you guys mentioned. Plus, house is a good investment -appreciation in value. Here in SFO, bought our house for $250K 30 years ago, now worth $1.5M Real property has generally been a good investment, even short term, appreciation in value is crazy. Owning a house you can recoup your cost later plus profit, or leaving something to your kids is a great feeling. With rent, it's just money out.. Just my point of view. Your condo is nice, from your IG photos and vlogs/podcasts.

Definitely a house for me. What I don't like about condo is the cost of the parking space, super expensive! Condo is good if you are still a student, young professional or for a newly married couple. If you live in a subdivision, all the amenities are also just like in a condo.

Depends on location talaga! Go to US and houses are better, go to South Korea and even the richest of rich prefer condos ☺️ I think in the PH there pretty good options for both, but of course privilege comes into play...

I work in the real estate industry and I’ve lived both in a condo and a house & lot. Just like you, I lived in a house with a huge garden during my childhood years until high school. I loved playing the Sims all day too by the way. And then during my college years, I lived in a rented condo with my brother in Taft Ave. Manila since it’s close to our schools but after graduating, I had to move back to my parent’s house already. What I don’t like in our house now is that even if we had the roof fix, there is still leakage. I think we need to spend more for a skilled worker since the previous ones still couldn’t fix the problem. My expensive DSLR also has been stolen inside the house. Stray cats always visit us and make a mess in our laundry area. And the big dogs of our neighbors are just too noisy during daytime. Now, I’m excited for our condo we bought to be turned over this December since I really missed the convenience condo living has that you mentioned: upkeep, layers of security (especially that access card is required on the elevator to access your floor), garbage disposal system, easier to clean, amenities, and sense of community. By the way, I think the P 5 k parking slot rental fee is more affordable than buying the parking slot itself especially when a parking slot costs at P 1.5 M. Yes, I would love to live in a condo even if I couldn’t use enjoy all the perks it brings because of the new normal. A condo is a good starter home for us and it’s easier to sell in the future. So once we have a budget, we would like to have our dream Japanese inspired home made. Condo madali linisin lalo na pag single ka. Pero I think in the end pag tumaas taas yun net worth mo you'll find yourself looking kung saan mo ilalagay yun pera. That's where the house comes in. Majority will say bahay kasi investment, own land etc pero gaano ba kamahal magpatayo ng matinong bahay, pag sakin it's 15-20M! I would rather buy the condo, have good set of furnishing na satisfied ako, use the money for business then buy a house in the future pag madami ng surplus money.

Na sa at least P 25 M ngayon yung nakikita kong bahay these days kaya condo na lang din binili ko muna 😆😅 Masarap isipin na forever home ang house kapag marami ka talagang extra money, may money ka for housekeepers na tutulong maglinis at parati kang na sa bahay pero kapag parati kang na sa labas and busy sa business or career talaga then mahilig pang magtravel lalo na pag weekends mas okay condo. Also, travel time saved on going to work or mall can be used on other activities and hobbies 😊

Thank you for sharing! Both have valuable ideas but pandemic really defines our decision on where to live. I would still go for a house since I tried living in a condo. Yeap ,if you have a car, you need to buy the lot or rent for a parking space at ang mahal nya. Plus, if you love cooking, it's a disastrous everytime you're in a condo..Can't even eat tuyo or daing..But I would love the amenities and saves you from hassle like long driving & traffic..

Since my very concern is security, I always prefer a condo. Of course if I can buy a house in big and secured villages like Corinthians or Ayala Hts etc etc , no questions asked, I will definitely live in a house😆. Earthquake? Fire? yeah , it’s scary in a condo of course esp I live on the 49th floor, but hey, if it’s my time to go, it doesn’t matter where I’m at right? we cannot escape natural disasters but I can provide a good security for myself and my son with the perks of having good security in a condo, 1 by the main entrance, one by the door, one by the elevator plus the access card. House ❤🙌 because condo monthly dues is really expensive we tried to buy condo but we end up buying a house although house is a bit expensive at first but in the long run it's a very good investment and if something will happen like earthquake o some disasters that might affect the building where condo is up there are chances that the ending you'll end up nothing that's why we end up for a house hehe 😅

Wondering what is a better living situation overall I'm a single guy in his 30's and find both of these options appealing different reasons. 1st scenario small condo 1 or 2 bedrooms in a downtown setting close to light rail no need for a car close to major international Airport everything within walking distance. 2nd scenrio house in the suburbs need a car but has 3 to 4 bedrooms can have 1 for an office one for a main bedroom convert one for a gym etc needs a car Price around the same overall would like to get some perspective
