I love how Joey just drags the blade through the worst possible tasks to test it. In a real world scenario I doubt anyone will be trying to cut rocks or bricks with a blade. However in an event when you’d like to do so, you know your limits. Top notch video btw x

Joey Joey Joey .... smashing up one of my favourite knives you cruel man. I was actually a bit nervous watching this one, so I am glad it didnt do too badly. I am actually impressed that you managed to break the pommel because that is solid steel and part of the knife. To be fair, I think it will always snap at that mid point, and it isn't necessarily a "flaw". A kukri is basically a bunch of different design trade-offs, that results in a large, long knife, where the main chopping section of the blade is aligned to the angle of the forearm, and the bulk of the entire mass is at the front. The gooseneck is always going to be the thinnest part. If you thicken it, you will basically end up with a bent broadsword. Maybe I'm rationalising the failure, who knows. FYI this was a design collaboration between Joe Flowers at Condor, and Alan Kay, the winner of the Alone tv show. He is a hardcore kukri fan. Ok, after watching you destroy a K-TAC I think I need to go off and have a little cry .... Thank you for your fine work sir

@@joex You are very welcome mate. I think Kukris are a marmite thing tbh. The design comes from Nepal. Basically its evolved from an agricultural tool like many weapons. Its a way to combine an axe, knife, and weapon, all into one tool. The blade aligns with the forearm angle to reduce wear and tear on the users wrist and maximise the delivery of chopping force. Traditionally (and with this one), the blade is sharpened at different angles at the front, and close to the handle. You do fine work close to the handle, and use the end of the blade for chopping. Great video mate

@@joex in my opinion joe kukri are one of those designs you love or you hate. I've found they require a lot of messing with to get them to preform right. Where other designs comes naturally. To me they are basically a big hatchet. That can do a bit more then a regular hatchet. I also believe the kukri is a fighting knife first everything else is a after thought.

Under normal use, that Kukri would last a long time. I have the Condor heavy duty version. After sharpening it one day, I was cutting paper with it. My cat was chasing the paper that flew off and I lost concentration. I chopped the side off my left index finger!😂 It’s healed up now but it was decent, a chunk of my finger was sitting on the blade of the Kukri. I threw it in the bin.(the finger chunk, not my Kukri)😊

@@lajosnagy8855 Nope. Tramontina is 1070. The carbon difference is anyway minimal. The hardness on tramontinas is around 52 HRC (in some sources stated as 52-54 HRC but I don't think any of their blades were ever shipped at 54).

This is an interesting remark! The weight has obviously a big word to say on the impact received by a blade stopping instantly into hitting something. The length (i.e. the leverage) should also have a lot of influence on the impact strength.

@joex

@PurrsPlace
@PurrsPlace 2 жыл бұрын
@@joex They are relatively inexpensive knives (especially compared to the ones you test). Made of high carbon or stainless, BPS is a family-run company who often gives away their knives to the Ukranian fighters. I have seen BPS on Amazon, Etsy, and eBay. I own one (carbon steel) and I really like it. The leather sheaths are good quality, the knives do what they are supposed to do and well, and the price can't be beat (about 35-40 Euros or so per knife?). I am sure you can break them (because you can break any knife), but I don't think BPS knives would break easily! Go Joe! 8D
