I fully endorse your recommendations on being equipped and trained. I just returned from an extended back woods camping trip to one of our national parks here in Canada. While there I had an incident with my axe that opened my knee up. I was able to access my well stocked FA kit and clean and wrap my knee. I then made my way to a local clinic 60 miles away were I received seven stitches. The irony is I had just watched your last video on your PFAK during which I was nodding my head in agreement. I have 36 years experience as a police officer and 15 years as a paramedic. By the way, I was using good safe technique but got sloppy as I got tired..

on that lite med pouch, that red tab inside is meant to be left hanging out (between the zippers) so that you can just grab the red tab and quickly pull it open.

I like your approach to "preparedness", and the various things that it can mean to people in vastly different situations. Usually we're out and about on our daily business in an urban setting, not climbing Mt, Rainier, or traversing Death Valley with 100 lbs. of gear in 100 degree temperatures; Zombies hot on our tail. Keeping it real keeps it sensible. I guess we're all children at heart; Boy Scouts playing with our G.I.Joe action figures. But there are worse things to spend one's time and money on than being prepared for for the unexpected. Good work.

I used to live about an hour south of the Wayne National Forrest, Its a great area. Also, while i myself like bushcraft, I am also a prepper and like your videos Because of the mix of preps. I think its great that you focus on every day potential issues and not just one type of outdoor video or another.

your right Chris that should be number one list of preps to have a first aid responders kit, if someone has kids. Just this morning I heard on the news that this women was bit by a spotted deer tick and she had to have both hers arms and legs amputated. Thank you for making this video to give people some ideas what they need in a medical kit.

I have this exact bag attached to my holster for my Winchester 94' its holding 40 rounds in it, flashlight, pocket knife, lighter, and a small bottle of gun oil. Perfect set up for that rifle.

Chris if you are looking for a small tourniquet then check out the SWAT -T tourniquet. It's about the size of a deck of cards if not smaller and lighter. Great piece of kit that I have in my go bag. Plus it's only about $12

The S. W. A. T. Tourniquet is cheap and would fit pretty well and has a ton of uses. I use a "tactical gear clip" I found on Amazon for my SOF T but I used to use a cheap 5 dollar radio pouch and it worked very well as would an m4 mag pouch.

Very nice looks Similar to the Maxpedition FR-1 . Might be good idea to put drinking straw tips on your Scissors/Forceps/Surgical snipes, etc. to prevent them from cutting accidently into the other compartments of your awesome Clam med Bag. 7:22 Love the organizational management you got with the meds. I would add in some kind of booklet with instructions, for all this great gear...what if your not able to assist in firstaid (unconscious etc) someone can access your gear, and use the gear with instructions?? where I live, we can't just give meds because it's considering prescribing which is a doctor's act (goes the same for burn creams and neosporin) but I keep that stuff in for myself and my family.

Hell yeah! Thats one thing I miss about living in Ohio. There are a lot of public grounds to do all kinds of things. I lived in Chillicothe. I hunted the state land thats to the south of Menards there. A good chunk of both wooded and open land. Also there is Elk creek I believe thats what its called, it was about an hour and a half to the east and lots of wooded state land. Good two tracks as well...

Wayne Natl Forest? You're not far from me, bro. Anyways, I was in the market for a small auto emt kit. One for me and one for my bro who just got his nursing degree, as Christmas gifts. To answer your question, no, you can't get or carry an eppy pin without a prescription or are an EMT. Hopefully this helps. What is the luggage scale you use? Great bag, I think I'm going to do an EDC bag update.

I have gotten splinters in my eyes before and i was in so much pain both eyes watered and I could not think,my luck would be to grab the damn super glue instead,that would really suck.lol I have had a lot of eye trauma in my past doing sheet metal work, very painfu

One of the problems I see about seeing prepper first aid kits (and I'm glad you didn't do this) is putting things in them that you have no business having or using. You are correct about Epi-pens, they are not sold over the counter. However, while many people have these on their person, it is important to know that an Epi-pen is NOT a cure for anaphylaxis. Epi-pens contain Epinepherine. Epinepherine is a vaso-constrictor and a Brocho-dilator. This means it will dilate (make bigger) the Bronchioles in your lungs which is why it eases breathing ability for someone suffering anaphylaxis. At the same time though, it will constrict your blood vessels. In a life threatening emergency this is a non-issue, but it is important to remember this and be prepared for it. This is also why you inject into the thigh muscle and no where else. Epi-pens work for those who need them and they save lives, but they aren't the cure. Even after giving an epi-pen, the symptoms can return once the Epinepherine wears off (about 10 - 15 minutes after application). I see a lot of KZbin videos where people are putting in IV start kits, Saline, even some that have Morphine and other drugs. People need to have the proper training and need to stop the "just in case" or "I can give it to a trained person to use" attitudes. And for the record, yes I am an EMT and I work on an ambulance.

I know this is an older videos but have you tried/seen the SWAT-T? It's a pretty versatile tourniquet, also makes a good pressure bandage with some spare cloth. Just something our department issued to us with a SOFT-T and a RATS. I unrolled it and folded it flat to fit in the chest pocket of my vest.

Chris, you need a prescription to get an epipen, but if you go to your Dr and ask for one explaining why, usually they will give you one. However, it should be noted that if it's not a life threatening reaction, you can do more harm than good. When I checked they were over $100 for 1 pen and they don't last forever, I think about a year.

Personally I would replace those shears. Those look a LOT like some that I bought offline and I went to test them out on a few pieces of paper 5 to be exact and the damn handle broke first test. God forbid I needed to cut denim with them or something.

If you or anyone in your family is allergic to anything that has affected their airway in the past an epinephrine pen is a great idea. Any MD worth his salt will write you a prescription for it . Pushing epi is a stopgap and not a cure all and is secondary to benadryl here and only administered if the airway is compromised. Best case IMHO is give OTC benadryl ASAP and monitor your patient. If this didn't work I would be calling 911 (if possible) followed by administering epi.

With the small pouch, maybe you could get rid of the tourniquet and fit a small size Israeli bandage. It can also be used as a tourniquet and has other valuable uses as well. I would put an Israeli bandage in the bigger pouch for sure.

I respect your choices in the larger EMT Bag but the Lite pack seems to be trying to do too much. A while back I put a cold steel trail hawk into my hand and it put out enough blood to saturate pretty much all of your gauze you had in your pack before you would even get a chance to start opening the clotting agent or superglue. I used most of my gauze and a surgical sponge and 2 feet of duct tape which seemed missing from your kit to get it closed enough to drive myself to the ER. In the LITE I suggest you dump the pill box and add a couple of those paper packs of those meds. (as an aside nothing will get you nice long talk to the cops while in shiny bracelets like repackaged meds) and add gauze, surgical pads, coban wrap and duct tape around an old credit card. My EDC Med kit does most of what yours does in the same pouch but is focused on a single emergency, I only cary 2 Advil and 2 Benadry. I assume any time I open it I have to repack it later. Make sure you don't push to do so much that you can't do any of it well.

That kit rides in a bag with a shemagh on top. That's my EDC kit. When I'm actually out trying knives or in the field for the weekend, I have the larger kit. I'm not worried about my meds, since I peel my current RX label and put it in my wallet. Since my RX is legit, I really don't care. Medicine in a medkit isn't exactly eyebrow-raising.

Sounds like a no then... I really don't mind what you do to yourself, but use of tourniquets, wound closure and chemical clotting dressings on other people is stuff best left to health care professionals. Tissue damage vs bleeding out is not decision for the untrained to make really.

I think the problem with the R.A.T.S. -- Rapid Application Tourniquet System -- isn't so much a design problem with the tourniquet itself as it is a not reading the damn directions and applying it wrong problem! When I first saw that thing I thought it was hugely bad design that would cause major tissue damage. Then I won one in a giveaway on Skinnymedic's channel, and had the opportunity to spend some time with it, actually read the directions and understand how it's supposed to work. It actually works quite well, and, if it's applied correctly, the R.A.T.S shouldn't cause anymore tissue damage than a C.A.T. or a SOF-TT. The key to that is applying it correctly!!! Put it on wrong and it will definitely cause tissue damage and a lot of unnecessary pain as well. My primary tourniquet is the C.A.T.. I think it's the best one out there right now, but since the Boston Marathon bombing, where there were multiple casualties needing tourniquets, I've started carrying two purpose built tourniquets, a primary and a backup. The R.A.T.S. -- which I think is actually easier to apply to yourself one handed than even the C.A.T. -- is my backup. I keep the C.A.T. in a 'tourniquet holster' on the outside of my IFAK where it's really easy to get to with one hand, and the R.A.T.S. stays inside the kit. I also carry a 4" IBD that can be used as a tourniquet as well if necessary. BTW, If you're looking for a good way to carry a C.A.T. on the outside of your bag check out the Tourniquet Holster from Medical Gear Outfitters. That's Skinnymedic's web store, and if you haven't checked out Skinnymedic's KZbin channel you should. It's a good channel that ties in very well with what you do here.

Missed the other kit videos? 16+ UMF Manuka Honey (aka "medihoney") is like neosporin on steroids. It's what I put on bandages. Also kills fungal infections in under 48 hours. About $40 a jar.
