Paul, Keep building... you're the best. My favorite video is of you multi-configured micro boat while eating fish and chips (and bumping into stuff). I built my plywood boat based on your design. Keep up the amazing work!

"If you like stuff like this" I absolutely love stuff like this, predominantly your stuff like this! You inspired people throughout the world (including me) with your original Coroplast bicycle camper, and this was equally amazing! If you were to make a video on the stove you built for this I reckon it'll get gazillions of views and shares.

I've thought of that but I never refined the stove enough be a safe heating and cooking alternative. Almost, but more work needs to be done.
@IvoTichelaar2 жыл бұрын
@@paulwelkinsdiy the refinement process would make an interesting series of videos.
@paulwelkinsdiy2 жыл бұрын
@@IvoTichelaar I had actually drilled an entrance and exit hole for the flue, to extend and go out then back into the camper, make a big 'U' then exit out a higher hole on the other side of the back wall. Unfortunately I couldn't find any store that carried the old style round downspouts, so it didn't happen. Should have waited before drilling the holes. Damn.

What about KILZ brand anti-mold paints or clear coats? They make lots of products that kill mold & mildew. As an autistic savant I absolutely love your channel. You're an inspiration Paul!

Yes, Kills might be another good option. I Had the elastomeric paint stored for 8 years and felt a need to use some before it separated too much. I also wanted to see how well it would hold up on flexible canvas.

I appreciate you so much, and the inspiration you have provided me. Thank you Mr. Elkins. 😊 Let's hope 2023 is a good year for all of us. I'm curious how the elastomeric coating is holding up, I think this is genius and so I'm wondering about the durability of it.

I know it doesn’t really fit the esthetic but Dyneema fabric would be a good solution. Also for the bamboo clear coat spray multiple layers and there will be no exposed organics for growth.

Hey, thanks for the follow up on this. Ya know, it seems to be holding up pretty well. I guess the pioneers' canvas covered wagons weren't so fragile after all.

OK - I made a tail box for my Tour Easy Long Wheelbase bike. My final design was the following: 1) I made a very open basket shape with ~3"x~3" openings from Chloroplast strips roughly 1.5-2" wide. 2) At the strip intersections, I used very small zip ties. 3) Where the structure was weak, I inserted coat hanger type wire inside the Chloroplast(CP) openings. If you use the wire in opposite directions and zip tie, the strips become quite stiff. 4) After my open weave basket was done, I pulled heat shrinkable plastic over the outside of the shape. I wrapped the heat shrink(HS) around 1" CP strips, with the HS having "U" slots cut out where the zip ties held the HS edges to the basket. 5) When the HS was mostly tight, I used a Heat Gun to tighten it down onto the basket shape. The resultant structure was drum like and VERY stiff!!! Much lighter than the bamboo/canvas design... Bob

Nice to see this wagon of yours again but there is nothing like the maintainance-freeness of that corrugated plastic sheeting for the roofs of the rest huh?
@paulwelkinsdiy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but unfortunately Coroplast degrades within a few years when exposed to extreme sun conditions, and it raises havoc with the joining tape as well.

How much does it weigh? PS: The bamboo seems to have been a great choice, looks as though it's held up quite well.
@paulwelkinsdiy2 жыл бұрын
The bamboo has held up well for the bigger pieces. The smaller one's dried up too much and became brittle. I was able to tighten most of the zip ties as well, seeing the bamboo shrank some.

Of all your designs, those which have been subjected to elements, which are standing the test of time (literally!) the best and what are their materials and design principles?
@paulwelkinsdiy2 жыл бұрын
My old white 'Coroplast' bug-out camper was built in 2005? And has been exposed to direct NW elements for about 12 years with little degradation to the skin. Still, fluted plastic is not suitable for extreme sunny climates. Within 2-3 years cracking will occur. I'm also impressed with my coro boats, even the extended hulls using the wooden transom. Although stored inside they've taken a lot of flex abuse and still manage to maintain their pliability at the folds. Thanks for asking John!

Wouldn't flex seal spray be better than paint? Just curious.

Can you show your tiny wood stove, that you have in this bike camper..
@thesmallwoodlot4332 жыл бұрын
Benn following you for a few years now, and have a few questions for you. First, have you ever thought about building a small “foamie” bicycle camper? And is there any “set rules or regulations “ on length, or width of these bicycle trailer shelters? Also have you thought about an ammo can stove build?
