Tommy’s right about the clutch. A lot of people put way too much clutch in their street car and it just causes problems and pain in the ass to drive

Yep, my buddy put a crazy clutch in his eclipse GST. He was running way too big a fuel injectors in it too for a factory turbo with just hard piping. He pretty much tossed the car away because he couldn’t drive it on the streets anymore. He’s 72 y/o too so it was time for him to get something a lil easier to drive. He’s got a Toyota FJ now.

yeah putting a 700 lb/ft clutch on a motor with thrust bearings that have already been beat on is not usually the move. however, this issue did not require a full on rebuild, thrust bearing replacement is like... 10hrs in and out

Good stuff! Glad you made it with no hiccups on the drive (besides the cracked headlight). Looks like it's either an N1 headlight or GTS-t (very similar). I drove my R32 GT-R from SoCal to Idaho when I moved a year ago, also a 14 hour straight drive. These cars are awesome on long treks. So smooth, things aren't rattling, seats have good support too. My car made the trip without breaking a sweat. The only sweat made was from me, as my A/C needs to be recharged 🤣

Yes a heavier clutch does put extra load on the thrust bearings. Then add the clutch switch which requires you to hold the clutch down for start and it's just a recipe for disaster. Coming from the mitsubishi world were some people run up to 3200lb pressure plates. I always disconnect the clutch safety switch so there is a oil pressure before pushing on the clutch. Also the master cylinder needs to be adjusted correctly. Some people have it loaded up so there is always pressure on the pressure plate. 1/8th clevis freeplay is what is required for our cars check your FSM for your own spec. Hope this helps out someone.
