Confessions (FULL Audio Book)
by Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430)
Translated by Albert C. Outler (1908-1989)
Confessions (Latin: Confessiones) is the name of an autobiographical work, consisting of 13 books, by St. Augustine of Hippo, written between AD 397 and AD 398. Modern English translations of it are sometimes published under the title The Confessions of St. Augustine in order to distinguish the book from other books with similar titles, such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Confessions. In 1997, when I was 15 years old and passing through those turbulent teenage years, my mom -inspired by God - wrote a Saint Augustine quote on a piece of paper and hung it on the fridge. When I just read that phrase (the Wolf, when flattering, hates; the pigeon, when arguing, loves) I thought: "Oh! This is so true!". It was a strong experience with the Truth. After that moment I was curious to know who Saint Augustine was. I looked for more information on an Encyclopedia and eventually came to know he had written a book called Confessions. One day, when I was in my grandma's house I saw this book on her bed. I immediately thought: "Wow, this book is here for me!" It was my "tolle et lege" moment. While reading this INCREDIBLE book God had brought me closer to Him. Since then my spiritual life flourished and now married and mother of 4 children I am a Pro Life and Family activist. How I am thankful to this man!!!! Saint Augustine, pray for us.

I subscribed immediatley, it is a great service to mankind to make these works available. Whether one agrees with the bibles historical account or not, believes in the miracles or and of the other hot debate topics between atheist and christian you can not dispute the fact that the bible and more specifically the Gospels and story of Jesus Christ provide a perfect template for living and conduct in the world. I think one of the great sins of the church is burying us in semantics rather than focusing on the true message as Jesus passed it down to us.
@1DangerMouse1

Actually, I can and do deny that the Bible and books like this provide a decent template for how to live. It's irrational nonsense from people who didn't know much about the world or themselves. This man Augustin hated himself for having sex. That's awful. It's nothing to hate yourself for. It's a perversion of Christianity that humans would hate themselves (or the actions) for savoring pleasure or enjoying sex.

This book is far more engaging than I thought it would be. The only reason I listened to it is that I wanted to read the divine comedy, and I had to read this in order to understand some of the context. I'm glad I did, it is truly fascinating!

It is great to have this freely available! However, the audio sounds as if it was spoken through a cardboard tube. Perhaps something might be done minimize this in the future, (e.g., finding another location in which to record which echoes less, invest in some sound dampeners for the room in which you record, or upgrade your recording equipment).

Because the KZbin channel here chose to monetize it. It's like picking up used aluminum cans and then selling them for cash.

It is a long profession of faith. Thus, the whole book is a real humble prayer by St. Augustine as well as inquire into the deepest mystery of existence. In other words, both deep gratitude of the heart as well as search for the truth of existence---all these on the light of GOD. In order to understand it, you need to humbly accept what the LORD asks and respond to it in prayer. It takes time but God is faithful and He will bring it home, right at the center of your heart. But our response must done in faithfulness. Only then we can understand that which is written, not just from mind, but of heart, where all it matters.
