Confessions From My Crewmates on Parlay Revival and They Tell Me Everything
This video is like nothing I've made before.... it's like podcast and I interview the 8 crew members that I sailed with for 3 weeks across the Pacific Ocean. It amazes me how we come from such different walks of life with so many differences, but still end up so bonded because of this dream to cross the world's largest ocean.
❤️ SUBSCRIBE to see us cross the Pacific Ocean and thanks to ‪@ParlayRevival‬ for taking me along for the ride.

Recently discovered Parley. Really enjoying it. This is an excellent episode. I've wondered about how people come to be aboard. You asked a question about being grown up - if and when. That has been something I have recently finally answered. My husband and I bought a sailboat in our mid thirties and cruised the east coast to Bahamas several times with money making times in between. We owned the boat for 47 years. I realized about 5 years ago that I had finally grown up. I still have my child within, but now, with some adult guidance. My husband is gone and the boat, too. When I sold the boat I think the stories I had to tell about the cruising life encouraged the mid-thirties couple to ask me to stay on as consultant. So the boat is still in my world and my child is jumping with glee. I watch cruising videos during mealtime - allowing me to revisit our similar experiences. To anyone who reads this: age is just a number. It's a true saying that you will regret not doing more than doing. No regrets here.

Sail down to NZ and enjoy sailing around New Zealand, as you will love it. We also make the best boats down here. I have to say that your treatment in the border control centre was horrific... and to hear what they were calling the others... was absolutely shocking. I do hope that you laid a full complaint about the treatment as that was unacceptable. Kia kaha (stay strong) and be safe where ever you go on land or on water. 🙂.*

steve was honeslty the most honest. he liteally explained what border patrol agents do and think when sitting there. i'm from San Diego CA and lived 20 minutes from the border. had to sit in secondary for 5 hours just because I drove a beater car. I was 18 at the time. my first trip ever to Mexico was ruined because of that and he explained it even without cutting out the slurs. I'm Black and still heard the "Yellow Monkey" comments by border patrol and even I live currently and grew up on a farm. so i was called a "chocolate redneck hick" its crazy how these guys treat American Citizens. I even had my passport and 2 different ID's on me and still sat there for 5-6 hours. the only way I was able to cross was by calling my local Police Station which was right on the other side of the border of San Yisidro and told them what was going on. they instantly let my fiance and I through because I said they were holding food and water from a Pregnant woman.

Greta video. Classic David you really get to meet people. "Crazy captain." As in Don't be one. As an older guy that's what I've had to realize. Sailing is challenging and exciting, but my real challenge is not becoming another crazy captain. I've been on boats where the guy says "I'm the captain" in that skewed sort of way.... and you realize, the way he just said that means I'm Billy Budd (Melville. Doesn't turn out well for Billy). And no where in the ASA books does it say anything about bellowing. Is that for fog or just for bonkers! This one 'I'm captain' 300 yards offshore, bellowing. Near shore, docking? Nice guy. I like three and four hour watches. We only had four people on board so all watches were single. Tip: the last hour when you start to kind of lag....especially at 3 am. Put some music in your headphones and dance on the deck. Second tip. Dance without lifting your feet. Keeps you alert, gives you some exercise. Steve brought up something. Full size refrigerators. Here's what I think is going on. Those small boat fridges, freezers? They're expensive, not very efficient, not very reliable, nut much capacity Impossible to find parts for. What's cheaper, larger capacity, a lot more efficient, completely frost free, less expensive? A standard consumer home refrigerator. When they made the first American computer, the Eniac, they wanted to use the most reliable vacuum tubes. I think it used 15,000. They tested everything they could find. Costlier "Long Life" tubes were not longer life, they weren't reliable (I found this out with quartz halo headlights in the 1990s) By far the most reliable tubes were the ones produced in the largest numbers, and they were among the cheapest.

im used to the longer style watches like 3 or 4hrs, but i gotta say, the 2 hr ones on parlay were really nice. i'm definitely considering some regular fridges in our boat! way cheaper....just gotta keep the inverters running always, but that's not too big of a deal

Great video, I watched the passage on Parlay but this video gives a different insight into the lives on board.

Great interviews and episode, David, but Mary's singing outro is still the best part!
