How to deal with seasickness... and how it almost ruined this video series before it started. This is Day 1 of the Pacific crossing. Everyone is helping with the last-minute prep before we say goodbye to Mexico to start our 3000-mile passage across the Pacific Ocean. The seas are rough and the thing I dread most happens... I'm seasick. But, the best part of being seasick is that I’m off to a great start on losing weight because I was too scared to eat anything!

His in-your-face style would be annoying as fuck if it was not couched in what I perceive to be true humility and self-awareness. He seems like an awesome guy. But I still eyeroll over him regularly, that's part of the fun. He's genuine enough that the puppy-dog way he approaches life gives you little choice but to love him and want to pet him.

Four sets of acupressure bracelets on my catamaran for visitors. Wife started to get seasick walking on the marina Warf leading to the boat while were still dating. Vomiting before we even cleared the breakwater. One acupressure bracelet on each wrist cured her of ever getting seasick again.

Funny and recognisable.😅 Reminds me of my younger years. We went boating with fathers and a friend from our favourite holiday island on the sea near here. I the boat-crazy was the only one who got seasick🤢 and hung over the railing🤮. How disappointed I was☹️, and so along with my lack of language skills, I did not become a boat pilot.❌️ But finally at the beginning of this year it all suddenly worked out and I have now been living on my bought 38ft cabin sailboat for several months and seasickness stayed away as I crossed the bumpy IJsselmeer in May.🥳

It sucks when you don't have a coastline with a static object to watch. I remember many morning's after race party's just sitting on the rail dead center of the boat and just fixate on a single object for 5-10 minutes. Helped with the hangover and dealing with the up/down motions from the boat moving through the water.

We got caught in a big storm everyone one on the boat got seasick with the exception of myself and a young woman who was also on the crew. We basically were on watch for 24hr's, and we could not go below deck because it smelt like 100-year-old boat filled with vomit. Worked for years on charter fishing boats in the Mid-Atlantic and have seen anything and everything used for seasickness and have seen people have success and utter failure with pretty much anything. Its not common but occasionally i do get sick myself, but I found it to be a sign that my ears are getting clogged and i need to see the doc. Ive used the wristbands when i need something but many pairs have been left next to buckets that seasick passengers had been throwing up in all day so mileage does vary. The mental side is huge and if you convince yourself youre going to be seasick then you absolutely will. Eating is another part, mkre for day trips and overnights but leaving on an empty stomach is a big disadvantage.

REALLY great for the waistline which is probably why I don't get on a boat very often (that and the boat couldn't possibly carry enough food for a long voyage).

To deal with seasickness. It’s a mental exercise. You takes control of your situation. Face forward. Follow horizon in front. If you can steer the boat you are in more control. Never lay down close your eyes. Be active. Force your self to film and do all types activity.

*David, I get totally it with motion sickness.... yep it is all about the inner ear balance. Even on a ferry crossing, I stay at the back of the boat & look around the side of the boat. Roller coaster rides are OUT... but I did it once... was holding it in as I was so trying to get off the machine so fast & then I let rip. Even sitting on a lazyboy chair and someone comes up behind me and touches it and moves it slightly... the inner ear trigger makes me gag. Walking on a floating wharf ain't nice. Sitting in a car as it goes around windy roads... yep I once made a driver stop for me to let rip. But I finally found a cure for carsickness... with tiny movements of my feet and hands, that the driver doesn't even notice... I become the driver in that passenger seat. So whatever the driver does, I do it... Now to just figure out the seasickness. 🙂 Mary, love you singing at the end. 🙂.nz*

@@david_shih - True story: I never get seasick, but I puke as a overfed baby for anything else. But then there was that time I got stressed (wall-kind) and got the "yrsla", loosely translated to the "spinnings". I got sooo dizzy, the local callcenter (1177) send an ambulance to fetch me to the ER. A lot of tests followed, bc the "spinns" is actually a big signs of stroke or heartproblems. Not once did I puke, and that was a thing of amazement for the ER, the doc, the nurses etc, bc if you get dizzy, you puke. So, Ill never get seasick, but I will puke my guts out if I smell diesel, puke, see vomit or nr 2. Yeaahh, fun times. Love my husband, he is a TRUE saviour. /C

Hi David, I can sympathize with your sea sickness. Taking Bonine and drinking Classic Coca-Cola has worked for me. It even worked after the symptoms started. No diet coke, must be Classic Coca-Cola. Why? I don't know, but it worked! Eating a green apple helps some people with sea sickness, but I've never tried it. When I was a kid, my mother would give us Coke syrup or cola syrup to treat nausea and upset stomach.

Seasickness is one of the nastiest things you can experience. I actually have an interesting story. Growing up I always got seasick. But three years ago I bought a sailbout and sailed it home over a four day passage where I wore those scopolamine pathes behind my ear. I had a really bad side effect from them where my lips and parts of my face totally dried out. It was really bad seas and high waves for a lot of the journey(and I'm talking about the north sea bad weather). But whatever that was that turned my lips white for four days and dried me out, it cured me for being seasick. I've never been been sick since that passage. When I get on land I get mad vertigo though, but I think that is the reason for why I never get sick.
@david_shih
@david_shih 11 ай бұрын
wow so the extremeness of the patches cured you? That's pretty interesting, maybe i'll try a higher dose of scoplamine and see if it fixes me permenantly. but then again i never really got sick before...
@JoyElectric567
@JoyElectric567 11 ай бұрын
@@david_shih It's so wildly anecdoctal that it's difficult to say if it was the patches, but I felt almost like I overdosed on them and my lips were close to white coming home. The drying out was obviously a side effect. But for whatever reason, it just cured my seasickness permanently. I've never used patches or any medication since that, and I sail in the north sea where the swells are brutal. My theory is that because my psyche didn't feel nausea when "it should" have, some sort of switch got turned off where I now have vertigo coming onto land. That doesn't bother me though, I kind of enjoy it if I have the time to close my eyes and relax. It passes within a day or two. Not to make this to long either. But from a psychological perspective I think seasickness and it's reactions is inherently connected to fear. So taking meds that remove nausea could potentially "hack" your brain into a mode where one would more rationally approach

I raced in a long race in the Gulf of Mexico, and it was stormy and rough the whole time. After the race we were docked and a friend's boat arrived, so I helped him tie up. I asked him how the sail was and he said rough. He said that one of his guys was really sea sick the whole time and puked 28 times. We heard a noise and turned to see a guy puking off the dock. So as an airline pilot I had to deal with "motion sickness" when I did my commercial rating (bunch of pitching and rolling maneuvers) and I couldn't take the pills which like you said are very very drowsy and they were prohibited by the FAA for that reason. So I found that a natural recipe worked quite well for me: lots of salty chips combined with a sugary drink like coke starting 30 minutes before the motion. So at sea you would need a steady intake of the stuff but it doesn't have to be big in volume at all. I have tried it at sea as well with a very rolling motion on my boat and as long as I keep the chips coming slowly but steadily with a sip of coke along the way things seem to get well. Hope it helps the crash of those motion sickness pills is just not great :0
