Hi. Sorry for your bad luck with the boat and I give you props for your never give up attitude. I have been in construction for over 40 years. The dust can be mitigated with a shop-vack just need a good filter for it. Also get an oscillating multi tool it can be more precise than a saws all and you can get into tighter areas with it and a little less dust. You can get a nice 24 V Dewalt for around $100. Next I see the fiberglass has pulled away in places and you are cutting it out so you can grind it smooth so you can start over. Rather than cut it all out ( a lot of labor and dust. Why not inject Resin into the separated areas let it fill and strengthen, bonding the two back together. Drill a little hole just through the inner surface this will allow you to inject the separated or delaminated sections less invasive less dust less work. Then maybe apply some fiberglass and resin to the existing pieces to make them stronger. The boat company should put out a fix like this for your boat. Theirs no need for all that dust and labor. You will still need access to it but with less dust. Good luck and let me know if this helps Cheers. Robert
@david_shih3 жыл бұрын
Injecting resin into the separated parts sound like a great idea! But I’m worried about adhesion-you know how fiberglass needs to be ground down before new layers are added (to remove the aiming blush.) I wonder if the separated layers need to be roughed up (which wouldn’t be possible) or suffer adhesion problems. I need to go pickup one of those dewalt multitool-my Ryobi ones suck!
@Themarriedbachelor3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear. I would use an epoxy resin not a fiberglass resin they make all kinds of epoxy’s that will bond that without having to scuff it up some two part that when you push it through the syringe the tube will mix the two parts together creating a chemical reaction that’ll help it set up harder bond stronger and possibly stay flexible if you Do some research and find a good Epoxy for your application. Also instead of cutting out the old bulkhead why not sister a strong thin piece of material to each side of the existing bulkhead. By gluing 1/2 inch sheet of plastic to ether side of the bulkhead or a 1” piece to just one side of it if you can’t access the other side. I would glue it then through bolt it making the 2 new pieces and old bulkhead one strong solid piece. With a lot less mess

What are your plans for the cabins after the structural repairs, as the panels don’t look as though they can be reinstalled? Are you going to do an owners conversion? And where are you planning to do the cabinetry and panel replacement? Once again David, I really enjoy your posts. Hang in there mate. Cheers

Well done! Probably a bit late for this suggestion, but when I do grinding and paint on my steel boat, I use a 12” extractor fan that has a long exhaust tube. It shifts 65m3 of air a minute. I used it when I shotblasted the inside of my outriggers (1 metre diameter by about 9metres) and then painted them and it really kept the dust under control.

Screws and "bits" A large pack of quart and gallon freezer ziploc bags and a black sharpie.. Picture, bag it and tag it.. I like to take a pic of bag of parts, labeled, in the photo of what they went too So if you take off the ceiling then bag all those parts, label it, and then lay the bag somewhere in the photo with the label visible.. you can even get more OCD with the system but basically that works. @david_shih3 жыл бұрын
Colin’s footage was from several months ago. Sadly they’ve changed their minds and pretty much abandoned us. Most owners are having to pay out of pocket just to get their boats inspected by a dealer. And many have already had their repair request rejected by lagoon. Only the very newest boats have had any luck getting coverage and even then it’s only a bandaid fix they’re providing. I really love their boats, but I feel a bit hung out to dry.

Lagoon has offered to send a kit, but that repair is hardly a fix. @@RandolphSanchez01 thanks for the word of wisdom! It’s such a steep learning curve, but I’m figuring it out by bombarding parlay with a list of daily rapid fire questions. I'm sure you are well along now and don't need my advice. But buy wood working dust collection system and use it to collect the dust. Use shop vacuum dust collection for your grinding and sanding machines. Use box fans with heat and air filters on the back side. Move air through as many filters as you can. See woodworking dust collection systems.
@david_shih3 жыл бұрын
I can use all the advice I can get man! Walk me though the box fans--why do they need heat? I ended up going with a dual dust deputies as a dust collection system powered by 2 of those highest CFM shopvacs. To be honest it still wasn't enough to contain the endless amounts of dust!
@jamesbennett443 жыл бұрын
Give me a email address. I need to send you pictures. Do you have 220 volts available? I used to own a cabinet manufacturing company. Dust removal is a large part of machining wood in a enclosed environment. (Side note: I'm surprised at how the cabinets are built, certainly European, but usually they are integrated into the boat for/to add structural integrity. By shaping them to fit the shape of the hull and tabing them to the hull. I guess they want them to be able to be remodeled without having reinforce the hull. Back to the dust collection. I need to send a few pictures. You will get why you are having problems. It's all cfms, cubic feet per minute. Running a plastic duct work out of the boat connected to big fans or fan. Depending on the budget and availability. But in short you want to replace as much air as possible as closest to your work and move it out of the boat.
@jamesbennett443 жыл бұрын
The heater filter taped on the back of a box fan. The fan is just pulling air through the filter. No heat just a filter that fits a heat and air handling unit in a home. They sell them a dollar general.

Afterall they know how they fitted those fixtures , so they should know how to disassemble it. They also know the glues they used, thus should know what solvents "soften" them !
