I donated my kidney earlier this year to someone I didn't know - a friend of a friend. It was through the National Kidney Registry. I was very well informed about programs that would help me offset the costs of donating. I could have applied for assistance for lost wages, but I didn't have any. I was also able to get reimbursed for my mother's hotel stay while I was in the hospital.
