Love him. Always found him to be a colorful character and so dynamic & vital in REM. Just one thing...always thought he had sad eyes.

Great artist. R.e.m are the greatest American band of all time and for michael to walk away from that must be gut wrenching. I,m sure its a great feeling leaving your mark on history the way he and r.e.m have,very few are so fortunate

In the early days of R.E.M., Michael Stipe apparently could barely get a word out. An interview with the band members in Spin Magazine quoted him interrupting himself to speculate about an amusement park where all the attractions were trees to climb. I’m so glad to see that he’s remained so imaginative and at the same much better able to communicate.

Michael, all art that we create is important. I've loved you since 1982. Your art leaves ripples and affects young people today. My children in their 20's -influencing government and politics -they were brought up on your music.

(a) Michael is not a Gemini; he's a Capricorn [01-04-1960]; and (b) While I'd never presume to know his mind, I believe "Martin Luther Zen" is a metaphor for radical new beginnings in the here & now. Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation of Christianity & Zen is a sect of Buddhism concerned with being ever-present in reality, i.e. right here, right now.

I believe that REM would come back together for a tour if not for Michael. I say that as I big fan of the band’s music. I understand why they decided to quit. They were burnt out. They paid their dues and deserved a break. Life is too short not to be happy.

If doing his music wasn't making him happy, why do you guys say things like "I wish he'd put out a new album" Sounds to me like he's done with that stage of his journey. Everyday we have the freedom to start something new. Butcher, baker...candlestick maker. I wish him much success. Or even better than success...I wish him~~ BLISS~~

I admire Michael Stipe, but this video is terrible. You should have pushed the musical soundtrack a little farther back. As it is, this is unwatchable for me. 113K views? Automatic for a lot of the people.
@donatellopi194811 жыл бұрын
his 'gemini energy' are you kidding?!?! I sincerely hope so, or next ur going to be telling me what the lines in his palm read. Arrogance is hard to mask indeed, & yes it's mostly facutal to say, most celebrities are NOT humble, but Stipe is a bit over the top w/ the false humility-hipper than thou charade. I dare to assert that you do not 'Know' this man either?
@hyutyub9 жыл бұрын
Only my opinion.Never got into them.I see them as average musicians using basic patterns and chords and arrangement. Taking themselves too serious. Talking way too much about themselves all th time . They think their lyrics are so poetic and meaningful. Spending too much time contradicting themselves and all other opinions that come their way thinking that it's cool instead of practicing their guitars and drums. For me it was supposed to be for the music not for the hype. They should listen more to Neal Peart and Phil Lynnot both incredible players and lyricist.

"Stipe is a bit over the top w/ the false humility-hipper than thou charade." agreed Stipe is a joke who just can't let go of the spotlight & these types of interviews. REM's music is great, his lyrics... eh, a bit overrated for my taste... always feels like he's trying to hard. Thoughts?
