Out now via Craft Recordings, R.E.M. has reissued Automatic For The People, available in a variety of formats, the most extensive of which is the Deluxe Anniversary Edition, which features the album in its entirety mixed in Dolby Atmos.
The album (plus bonus track “Photograph,” featuring Natalie Merchant) was remixed in Dolby Atmos by Automatic’s original producer, Scott Litt, and engineer, Clif Norrell. This technology delivers a leap forward from surround sound with expansive, flowing audio that immerses the listener far beyond what stereo can offer. R.E.M.’s Automatic For The People is the first album to be commercially released in this expressive, breathtaking format.
In addition, the 4-disc Deluxe Edition offers a wealth of previously unreleased material. The band selected 20 never-before-heard demos from the LP’s sessions, including the fully-realized, unreleased track “Mike’s Pop Song” and the oft-mused about song, “Devil Rides Backwards.”

It’s 2022 and REM are still massively under-rated. Also, out of 8 billion people on earth, Michael Stipe is probably the one person I’d choose to spend a fortnight on a desert island with, just talking about life. Was lucky enough to see them three times pre- and post- this LP. Michael Stipe on stage goes from a gentle creature to a caged tiger. Amazing frontman

Stipe mentions the star from the cover of the album and wonders where it is now . It’s gone, lost in a hurricane sadly. It used to sit atop the Sinbad motel in Miami , that’s what Anton meant when he said he drove by a bar called Sinbad and it jogged his memory . The pole where the star was is still there tho . God only knows where it ended up. Piece of music history lost to nature

I just turned 5 when this album first landed. Needless to say that my mom loved it at the time, so I came to love it too! Today I own every REM release and various live recordings/bootlegs. REM has been my favourite band for as long as I can remember, and this is probably my favourite album. My wife preordered mine for my 30th bday (dates did not quite match with the release, but oh well) - should hopefully arrive in the mail any day! Love you guys! Still holding out for a reunion tour, because if I have one regret, it is that I only got to see you live once...

Having been an REM fan since ‘Driver 8' I am only now seeing this series of articles... seven years later. However, I do feel the need to share what comes to the forefront of my mind when I think about REM. As I said, I was a huge fan since ‘Fables’, and upon hearing that album I immediately backtracked and collected all their earlier work. Around the time of ‘New Adventures’, even though I bought it, my yearning started to fade. That’s not a statement on REM’s music, but more of how it goes with me. I’ll be all about a band for a while and then I either get bored, or interested in some other type of music, and my interest, which at one point was rabid, will fade. This happens with music, long running tv shows, etc. Anyway, in 1994 my father was diagnosed with late-stage colon cancer. It was going to kill him. But, being a fighter he chose to have surgery. One night I went to see him at the hospital and the discussion was brief, but it was about the fact that we both knew the surgery was not successful and we both knew it was only a matter of months. He tried to comfort me but I couldn’t take it, I gave him a kiss on hiss forehead, told him I loved him, and I left. On the way home, while trying to drive and cry simultaneously, the song ‘Everybody Hurts’ came on the radio. Yes, I knew the song... hell, at that point everybody knew the song/video to the point of disdain (as some posts here have mentioned). But because of the circumstance I was, at that very moment, going through, it was like I heard the song for the very first time. The lyrics, which I’d heard a thousand times by then, soothed my tortured state. The music was hypnotic. Something washed over me that I can’t, to this day 25 years later, even begin to explain. I somehow knew that I was going to be ok. IT was going to be ok. By the end of the song I was calm. I was at peace with what had happened and what was going to happen. My father passed away three months later. It was painful. Even typing this I had to stop several times because of emotions. But, I kinda believe not AS painful had I not had that experience while driving home. I often thought that if I ever had the chance to meet Michael Stipe I would thank him. Fucking music, man. Given certain circumstances, the right song can transform the human experience. Thank you, R.E.M.

Yo trato de creer que es uno de abajo de piso. Pero no puedo conozco el poder de los del CUADRO, ví la nave, me trajieron diversas formas alienígenas. No puedo más que decir es de arriba.
