As an INTJ 5w4 myself, this video is so insightful and by far the most accurate one I've seen. I like how you brought up the stuff that's less talked about or usually confused with being "emotionless" or "selfish", when that's not the case at all. We're just more goal-driven than others and value self-dependency for future situations. Also I really can't get myself to believe in something until it entirely makes sense (basically the practical reasoning behind it). Don't know if it's a type 5 thing or just me lol.

Because something you said doesn't make sense. And now I have to solve it. Also, I have people asking me for advice out of the blue. Like people from high school I may not even remember, asking me SUPER personal, very important questions with consequences. Like whoa... wtf? But I always end up answering them. Deeply, well researched, kindly, but very bluntly. This has happened so often over the years that I made up a joke hashtag about it #letmebeyourlifecoach hahahaha.. recently I have added, #icouldbeyourdatingguru hahahaha ... There must be something about me (INTJ 5w4 female) that says. "I won't judge you or scold you no matter what you say. I will offer practical opinion or guidance on whatever it is."

Glad to hear you mention the stare. Sometimes I look people in the eye and they flinch! I also hate people wasting my time or not being upfront about how long something will take. I am forgiving about others being late now and then as I understand it happens to everyone, but it drives me crazy when someone has the "I'll get there when I get there" attitude. Also meetings!!! Most meetings are so pointless and could be emails. I have to attend a monthly after hours staff meeting, which is fine because it's part of what is expected of me in my position. However, I find the meetings UNBEARABLE because management tries too hard to make them not just a boring old meeting, but a fun social team bonding experience! I'm not anti fun but I hate being told "you will have fun!". It's ok for a meeting to just be a meeting! All the "fun" stuff isn't actually fun and is just a waste of my one life on earth lol. I find it so insulting and infuriating.

I think some of these are more cultural than related to being a 5w4 (e.g., the importance of being "on time" is not a Type 5 trait per se; it is specific to some cultures and not others -- so in cultures where being on time is important, Type 5w4 may view someone being late as their energy being wasted/depleted, but in other cultures 5w4 doesn't view lateness in that way, and may even appreciate having more time to themselves to think). Also, describing the giving of an opinion as a scenario that someone could "win" isn't really a Type 5w4 motivation. Type 8, maybe. This part of the video seemed like it was about a specific situation (did something happen at work?) and not the overall motivations of a 5w4, which are more about wanting to be useful, and not so much about wanting to win or get one's way. The part about asking for help was spot on.

I agree with the bit on time. I am either exactly on time or late, but definitely do not want people waiting on me. That would be terrible to walk into a room with all eyes on me. I think it is unconscious mostly. I have what I call "exit issues". I don't want to be late. But I find when I am, I can slip into a meeting without the preliminary chitchat and get straight to work.
@randomAKboi3 жыл бұрын
@@darthlaurel Interesting. For myself I characterized this as "If I end up with time enough to be early, I will self sabotage by over preparing," and have used that to attempt to recognize the cycle and end it, telling myself "I don't need to make myself late." The similarity that popped out to me is the fear of wasting time. I was wondering, for you (or anyone else) what is the detrimental implication present in a loss of time? I ask because I can't figure it out myself. Definitely not here to criticize.
@darthlaurel3 жыл бұрын
@@randomAKboi Andre, I don't assume criticism. Thanks for making me think through this more deeply. Although I have pretty decent social skills, I am always anxious when I walk into a room filled with people (meaning anyone besides me). When I buy a ticket to a performance, I always pick an aisle seat (or front or back row) so I can easily get out with the least interaction with people. When I walk into a room for a meeting, I do as similar as the room allows. I might try to sit by someone who knows me well enough for me to feel comfortable, and will sit outside the circle of tables if the only seat is by someone I don't know. I'll chose a table with no one yet at it if I can. Maybe this is a territorial thing. You are right. I do not need to make myself late. And yet, I often do. I think it is to avoid interaction with people which, even with people I know and love, is difficult for me. One thing I also almost always do...bring something else to do. I'm not good with downtime. I take a book everywhere, or work, or something to do with my hands, and my mind.
@randomAKboi3 жыл бұрын
@@darthlaurel thank you for your reply. While my drives feel different, the behavior of avoidance feels the same. I wonder if perhaps I'm just placing more emphasis on time than the energy and uncertainty of interaction, because I do some of the same things but for different reasons. Interesting. At shift report (hospital) i sit separately and attentively. This is because i have trouble focusing and wouldn't like to be distracted by the whispered cross talk. It feels more focus and rule driven, bit the behavior sounds so similar.... Sometimes i stretch out my bathroom time (like right now) because i need to he alone to concentrate, and I tend to read on the toilet. The list goes on. Do these behaviors sound similar? Should we both be looking for the agitation's source in subjective stimuli (neurosis) than objective stimuli (Time, others)?

@randomAKboi3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I Don't care about being right in the context of ego-satisfaction, I need to know if the methods I used to fixed your problem are freaking viable. In my age I'm starting to figure out that normal ass people HATE admitting that they were wrong, or that something they were right about originated from an external source. My solution has been to pay more close attention to the changes in their mood in context with whatever advice I had given. Effective thought leads to effective action leads to attainment. Attainment makes people happy. Giving the means to attainment allows the source to be viewed as an asset, not an influence. Typically if someone acts on something I've helped with and it works out, I take the lift in mood once they notice I'm around or the desire to talk to me more as confirmation of a job well done. Doesn't always work though.
@darthlaurel3 жыл бұрын
@@randomAKboi This is interesting. I don't know if I do this or not. I am *very* good at reading a room however and reading people, especially when I'm the one who has upset them. I think sometimes I might over-read people and assume things that might not be true. I could find out if they are or not true if I interacted more but I don't like doing that if I don't have to. What I've noticed over the years is that I am very outspoken about a *possible* negative outcome that people don't see as an unintended consequence of their decision(s). In these, I am all too frequently right, so much so that people started telling me, "We should listen to you. You are always right." But they don't. And yet it is true, I am all too frequently right. Part of this is intuition and part of it is looking at things in a way that no one else is willing to. When they tell me I am right, I just say, "Yes, unfortunately." and leave it at that. I take no pleasure in being right unless the outcome is good and a person has benefitted from listening to me. Then I am always happy for them. I also notice that people sometimes take credit for ideas that were mine. This doesn't really bother me that much. I just maintain a straight face and smile to myself. The point is to get the ideas out there, get people thinking, get a conversation started about possibilities.

Have you found out your mbti already? Mine is INTJ 5w4 and while I was researching about my type, they are closest to INFJ and INFP aura/vibes, which makes sense because of their strong moral character. Despite all of that, INTJ is still considered demon and angel personality. Demon stands for superiority complex (god complex) and an angel one is their inner self. It depends of their zodiac rising sign. I'm actually native Aquarius, it's hard to fit in when my peers go out dating and taking education seriously, it's like I'm an outsider even though I'm a part of it. Wow. I'm INTJ⛧5W4. This is the creepiest one I've seen so far. These are the things people understand the least in regard to my social behaviors. Which leads me to ask... For anyone reading this that shares these two types, is anyone else an Occultist? There is little to no discussion of these typology systems in western esoterica (That I've seen in my minor role) and I'd like to "Feel out the theory" so to speak. From my discoveries, Setianism and most other serious LHP initiatory belief systems feel nearly TAYLOR MADE for navigating personal development through the unique challenges inherent in this type. Practices involve assigning behaviors to optimize the expression of and cooperation between each thinking function on the MTBI level, and assessing current behavior against desired behavior, which happens to match up well with the Drive-defining mechanisms that characterize the enneagram. Occultism, and particularly the stereotypical depiction of the Black Magician in LHP currents seem to match a lot of the aesthetic features that are usually associated with the INTJ personality type. And if this theory is correct, would that make us a type-range with a historical culture? Answering questions such as these may have implications for the utility of personality typology applied to anthropological research. Thoughts?

Interesting comment- I watched a bbc documentary on ADD and was convinced I had it (on a relative mild level- I certainly dont physically have it) But I then discovered mbti and later enneagram and it got me thinking how many people are potentially misdiagnosed as add because they’re bored at school or don’t fit in

@@manuel_winde I am now completely fascinated. I teach lol! So many factors to consider, and the 'tik tok' attention span is certainly real... With upticks of suicides bringing attention back to mental health issues, hopefully will also put more attention on other factors such as learning styles, personality differences, ADD, ADHD and the like. Current services for mental health for our students is pathetic. System was completely understaffed prior to 2020 and now from bad to worse. Enneagram and MBTI was also a GAME CHANGER for me, and didn't happen til my 40's.... Thank you for sharing such great insight! Has totally made my day :). Sandy

Doesn't Te of INTJ understand its own thoughts while talking about them? I wonder what you mean when you said you don't talk until you know about any topic.
@HighFiveFriend3 жыл бұрын
Great question! It's not that I can't, I just don't. To be blunt (and perhaps a bit pessimistic or one might say realistic), I typically find that a majority of people prefer to have surface level conversations. So... in order to not be a 'fire hose' nor spend unnecessary energy on fluffy conversations I generally keep to myself. I will say I do now appreciate small talk more than I used to and understand its place. (is this wisdom? lol). This is actually the topic of an upcoming video. I love and prefer intellectual and deep conversations - ugg small talk. On a positive note, I find as I search more for people with depth, we are meeting. Very much like your insightful and observant question :). Thank you!!!

For myself this feels more like "Until I'm certain of the accuracy and totality of my conceptual understanding of a topic." Adding arbitrary, inaccurate, irrelevant, or distracting information when exploring a concept is something I supremely dislike, and so I avoid doing so myself. For light hearted conversation, TBH I just don't care a lot of the time. My mind will wander into something more important. If someone is still talking to me and I don't want to cut them off, I just stare at them until they're done. I just don't have anything to say. Sometimes I'll smile or say "Oh wow :) " but its a learned imitation of interest. However if youre asking for advice on a problem or sharing a unique and interesting bit of information, or discussing art, philosophy, technology, ect I'm all in. I really just don't have the mental space to let in a bunch of pointless dribble.

@@mikelastname9444 interesting! There is a 0% chance of “F” here. Beautiful type, though! Very strong correlation with INTPs and “5”s. “F”s more often 2a 4s or 9s. Thanks! The INTP 5w4 getting mistyped as an INFP is apparently a pretty common thing, I was curious if there was a similar connection between INFJs and INTJ 5w4. I'll stick around to see your INTP video though, looking forward to it. :)

What an ashhole, don't you think? Don't ask me that, don't do that... yeah, the rest of the personalities love the bullshit. Not, but we have learnt to be a functional human beings with empathy for the others. If someone gets late well... maybe he has anxiety and he's doing his best to come. "Please do no waste my time" Yeaaah, other personalities LOVE people who waste their time. We feel inclinated to give a death stare and just ignore also, but we have a thing called education. Try it, it's useful. "Keep inviting me parties even thought I won't go, but don't get late or I'll be mad". Seriously? "I don't want to offend you, I just speak clearly" well, that's exactly what an abuser would say. "If I don't like you, I won't be helping you or giving you any advice" Excuse me, WTF. "Don't ask me for my opinion if you are not going to follow it step my step" Well, maybe your opinion sucks.
