I recently passed my driving test, and a huge tip I got from my friend really helped me. It's not about whether you can drive 'good' it's about whether you can drive safely. drive instructors pass you based on the idea that you won't be a danger on the road and keep the traffic in a good flow. you don't have to be able to drive like someone who does it for 10+ years, just give the impression you know what you're doing/ are supposed to be doing, and keep looking in your mirrors, I cannot stress enough always look in your mirrors with everything that you're doing.

@@eliminate100. You should be checking your mirrors as you drive along just normally so you know the cars around you. And when you manoeuvre you use mirrors and a head check. A head check won't show you whats 2 car lengths behind you. It should be for instance, for changing lanes - Decide you want to change lanes → check mirrors for cars, and if it's possible → indicator on → head check before manoeuvring → change lanes → indicator off Simplified as: Mirror, Indicate, head check, change lanes.

Tip from me to passing your driving test: Don't stress about it. You don't drive as well when you are under stress, so don't stress that you may fail. Accept that it may happen, but fixate on success, not failure. Don't try to feel overly confident as you may think that will help you pass. It can also make you miss a few things here and there. Simply, what I did was just simple. I set my mind to "I can pass because I know I am a good driver and I will just drive like how I always do."

For my first test, I was super confident I'm gonna make it. Made a big mistake and failed... On my second attempt I wasn't as confident anymore, but I definitely had hope. My examiner was in a super bad mood, forced me to break the law, so I got confused and didn't see that the lights were turning red, so my instructor had to hit the breaks. On my third one, I was super confident, that I was gonna fail. I was in a horrible mood and it got even worse when I saw who my examiner was. I think you can guess who it was. This time, he was in a better mood and I finally fucking passed. Also side note: I live in Germany, so the tests are 45 mins long and I had to drive through the Berlin city on my 2nd attempt, so it was really difficult.

It's not hard to drive to be fair, pretty simple skill most people can so. And what's with most learners still using the handbrake for every stop. I was never taught this by my instructor but I guess other instructors tell their students to use it for everything. Only time I use handbrake is parking as I love on a hill or if there a genuinely steep incline with traffic lights on, it's a parking brake really and shouldn't be used in flat traffic. And reference points for parking.....so fucking dumb, it's like learning the correct answer for a test, pointless. Learn how to park without having reference points because ultimately when your in the real world you don't have the time to fuck around with reference points.

That's a really good point. I was going for my Cat C license back in August 2021 and I was brushing up on a few videos about it on youtube and one of the key parts of information I took away from it was, so long as you're not going somewhere you shouldn't be (weight limit, height/width limit or the wrong way down a one-way street) so long as you do it safely, they won't even mark it down, usually. Just acknowledge the mistake, move safely into the new road and then deal with it be it turning around safely at the next roundabout or just redirecting back to the point you made the mistake.

@@pelicanofpunishment6 Hopefully you passed, but yes so many people take their test as nervous as hell and frightened to make any mistake and as you say as long as the examiner can spot that you are not a danger to yourself and other road users a few mistakes will not make a difference. Passed my test first time way back in November '87. Honestly, I'd probably fail if the test was like it is today. A problem back then, though, was that examiners all seemed to have their own way of doing things. Today, it seems to be better regulated. There was one examiner locally who was notorious for failing everyone. He failed my mum and a couple of my friends. My sister passed first time, even though she knows she should have failed. She had the Head Examiner riding with her in the back seat when she took her test. She made a couple of big mistakes. At the end of it he goes "what are we going to do about you?" Then he said to the examiner doing the test "go on, you can pass her.,"

5:10 Now I don’t know the traffic laws in the US or UK, but in my country, you’re ABSOLUTELY not allowed to stand and block the road while waiting to get into a gas station. If it’s so full that you can’t drive in enough so that you’re not blocking the road, you’ll just have to keep driving, and then turn around and come back, or wait somewhere that’s not blocking other drivers. Because this is making unnecessary traffic jams, and definitely illegal in my country. If this happened here, the police would come and have them remove their vehicle, and if they refused, they’d arrest them and get either someone in their family or a tow truck to remove the vehicle.

I took my test a few days ago in the US and I was backing up 50 feet and after I finished the Instructor (person giving the test) yelled at me and said "Sir! Sir! you didn't signal backing up" and I was confused because I didn't know you had to signal backing out if you are going straight. You'd usually only signal if you are backing up and turning right or left respectively. I then asked my friends about it and even my parents and they were all confused because they had no clue where I'd even signal to. I also looked it up on google and found many websites saying if you are backing up straight you don't signal.

Quick discussion about handbrake usage. At around 5:45 Santino is waiting for a safe gap near the petrol station. He applied the handbrake with the button depressed. Then when he released it, you'll hear a "Clunk" as he pushed the button without lifting the lever. So many driving instructors out there not teaching people to use their handbrake properly, or actively teaching them incorrect usage (which seems to be the case here), and it causes undue wear and dangerous parking situations. So firstly, when applying the handbrake, do not push the button in. The handbrake is a ratchet system. By pushing the button when applying the handbrake, you are preventing the ratchet from doing is job. The whole point of the ratchet is that it allows for easier application of the handbrake (you require less energy, because you are not having to prevent the handbrake from being pulled by the cable inside), and it ensures the handbrake locks into position correctly. Anybody who tells you that this causes extra wear and tear either doesn't know how a ratchet works, or is a driving instructor that would rather teach you an incorrect method than listen to the clicking of the handbrake through the day. It does not wear out the handbrake. What does wear it out, causes broken teeth on the ratchet mechanism, (and is the actual cause of worn handbrakes that people blame on not pushing the button when applying), is pushing the button to release the handbrake without lifting the handbrake slightly first. When releasing the handbrake correctly, that button requires next to no pressure to push in. If you hear a clunk when pushing the button, it is because that button has forced the lever up enough to disengage the ratchet. In doing so it has put a massive amount of pressure on the tooth of the ratchet mechanism. Lift the handbrake lever a little, and that button will be really easy to push; it will release the handbrake without the clunk.

What i find weird about these UK mock tests is that no-one is mentioning clutch pedal riding. In my country, when you stop for more than a couple of second, you're supposed to go to neutral. Holding clutch for minutes, like Santino did, when waiting for the gas station traffic, would be minor faults. Also, watching Santino's clutch shivers, brings back memmories. When nerves kick in, clutch is the enemy, with the twitching leg xD

Must admit on the one way road at 9:40 I too would have stayed left at the top, to turn right - simple reason being it leaves me more space and an escape route for a driver who has not seen (or just does not care about) the no entry markings, so who then cuts the corner into my lane. If I am on the right, I have nowhere to go. Left gives a better view and more options.

That first serious error was possibly due in part to the pelican crossing just before the give-way marking. In similar situations I often see drivers go through the green lights without realising that it doesn't give them a clear run across the junction. I guess it's a subconcious reaction: seeing a green light so close to a junction you don't register the "give way".

I passed my car driving test in 1990, but watching these videos is good as it helps refresh on bad habits. I passed my full motorcycle test in 89 too and you have extra things to consider when riding. I am more aware and focused on a bike than in a car because you almost go into autopilot in a car as it's so easy and you are in a comfortable environment. Every long term car driver should watch videos like these to refresh their basic understanding of the rules. It was relatively easy to pass your test when I did mine compared to how it is now. Driving instructors don't get enough credit for the job they do. My instructor made my driving lesson sessions and subsequent tests alot easier by simply understanding what kind of person I am. He noticed quickly in my first session I was a nervous guy and created a calm, reassuring environment for me to work in. I believe this alone got me through some difficult times during it all. My final test was to be done by the strictest examiner in the city, so I was already nervous at that thought. More so, it was the hottest day of July. I felt the odds stacked against me, as I was driving down a road the sweat started pouring off my forehead and started building up in my eyes. Driving now with one eye closed and the other open, both feeling like someones just put vinegar in my eyes for a laugh. On the way back to the driving test center I remembered my instructor say " if you don't do a manoeuvre before you head back to the centre, prepare yourself for a reverse park". I did just that, and I passed first time. It felt anti climactic at first due to the manor which I received my certification when we parked up but after I met up with my instructor again it felt good. Practice and a good instructor goes along way, stay safe.

13:10 the comment is a little confusing when you told him he was in the left lane on the one way street, but should've been in the right lane. On revisiting that part of his journey on the video, the road wasn't divided into lanes, so he couldn't have been in the "right lane". I suspect you meant to tell him to position himself more to the right, but that's not what came out.

6:57. This one confuses me a bit as an American. Here, if the light was green for the learner, than any traffic from the right in that type of intersection would have a red light, making it safe to proceed without checking/yielding. Can green lights in the UK signify that you still need to yield to other traffic? In the USA, green lights mean that you have right of way and are safe to go, assuming that nobody else runs a red light (perhaps this contingency of other people running a red is being considered? Seems a bit crazy to be a major fault though in that case). Edit: I just noticed the give way sign, but still, that sign is in a pretty bad location and is hard to see.

His first serious fault at 6:52, that road design is so misleading. You have green light, straight road, right after green light a yield (give way) sign. There is nothing like this in continental Europe. In continental EU and the USA if you have a green light it always means you have the right of way if you are going straight. I would have passed clean right thru that intersection on the green without looking or stopping as well. It's just confusing how despite the going straight and green light you have to give way to vehicles coming from the right. Never seen this before.

I know several places where I'm from where drivers have to yield, right after passing a green light. Normally on most traffic lights there are yield signs directly under it, in case the traffic lights don't work, so traffic lights have priority but in that clip the Yield sign and line was after the stop line which means that he should have checked and if a driver were coming from right, slow down and let them pass. It's not that confusing at all but still I wouldn't consider it a ''serious driving misstake'' a misstake sure but it wasn't that serious tbh.

Question. Obviously the rules and laws in each country differ, but I was surprised at one specific point: 6:55 I would also just drive straight ahead. I had a green light. Where I live lights override vertical and horizontal road signs that apply to giving way or stopping. Only if the lights were not working (i.e. at night), I'd look for the signs next. So this does differ in the UK? Never drove much there (1 week), so didn't have the chance to know all the differences. Is it because of the crossing? I've never seen traffic lights that would include a crossing but NOT the intersection right next to them.

It serious cause a car in the right lane could be turning right and then you turn right from the middle lane you could crash into that car why it’s serious when making a right even on a one way you stay to the far right lane same thing with turning left. Even with no markings you need too be as far over as you can too make the turns

allthough i'm not from UK. I think we have similar rules for driving. so therefore i would like to expose he is signaling way to soon. 6:40 no signal for overtaking the bus 8:20 8:38 9:34 and 10:08 he was signaling way to soon cause he had oportunity to park or turn the way he was signaling before he actually did

Some (many?) US drivers would fail miserably on this test. The required standards vary widely from state to state, our roads are generally wider, and we rely less on lane markings. I note that this test was with a manual transmission, whereas most US cars have automatic. A majority of US drivers would not be able to drive a manual-shift car!

This man was happy every time he saw poor Santino making a mistake. Tf?? Another thing, those lines and markings on the asphalt and the narrows roads are ridiculous on england, god dammit you can barely drive there
