Just to note here, the DHCP on the Soundcraft setting that you mentioned do no use at 09:26. The DHCP here is not setting the Soundcraft to be a DHCP server it is setting it to OBTAIN a DHCP address FROM the DHCP server which in this case is the Netgear router.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video and for answering questions in the comments! I have a slightly different setup with the UI16 and hoping you can help me; My goal is to not use the UI16's hotspot, or the LAN options, and instead use the wifi setting where it is connected to my home internet's network and then from any device using my home network's wifi, I can access and control the UI16 from a browser (While still maintaining the internet on that device). Is this possible? I've spent several hours trying to get it to work, but couldn't. I have the Gateway and submask entered which I believe are correct, and I also have the username and password entered for my home internet wifi, wich is correct. The only one I'm not sure of is the IP. I've tried about 5 different IP options by changing the end number and keeping the rest like the gateway IP, then powering off/on the device, but when going to the browser and typing in the IP, it doesn't load the control panel, unfortunately, so I"m stuck and don't know how to resolve it. Any ideas? Will buying an external router as you're setting up in this video solve this issue and allow me to ALSO have internet on the device that's connected to the UI? Or is the entire purpose of the external router that you're sitting up only to extend the wifi signal? Thanks so much!!

@djlouparis10 ай бұрын
If your router is close to, or has bad wire shielding, it can cause issues to any wireless transmitter or receiver. Make sure there is some distance. Likely to be traced to your routers power source. Could be very leaky.

I have the IP address, Gateway and Subnet settings in the mixer under the LAN settings set to the same as my Router. When I try to connect my ipad to the Router it just stays on "connecting"
@djlouparis Жыл бұрын
So this may be the problem. Your IP address of the router (say 192.168.1.1) must be different than the mixer (say 192.168.1.2) and then your connecting device be it a laptop, phone, etc should be issues yet another address (say 192.168.1.100). Note that these address all have the first three digits the same. This is all part of the same “subnet” or sub network if you will and as long as they are all are on the 255.255.255.0 subnet they can all talk to each other.

@djlouparis Жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't always see these comments right away. You connect your computer/tablet/phone to the external router. If you have configured things correctly your router will talk to the soundcraft, and then you just have to put the IP address you assigned to the soundcraft into your browser.
@leecanning1234 жыл бұрын
nice vid. it would be nice if soundcraft just had gear inside that meant you can actually use your ipad without a router and not have drop outs. The unit doesnt work as advertised most the time if you are anywhere near other networks, which is pretty much all the time.

It’s interesting because it seems all the digital mixers out there have pretty inferior routers. Curious if it’s just cheap parts or some issue with interference with equipment.

Can you connect multiple devices (iPads phones for AUX control) to the router, with the same IP address that you choose within the routers range of numbers ? Or do you need to give each device its own IP address within the routers range of numbers? And if you can connect the devices with the same IP address will there be a conflict between the devices using the static IP address?
@djlouparis Жыл бұрын
Sorry been at DJ Expo this week and just seeing it. Each device gets its own IP but the beauty is the router also issues them out to devices that connect (that’s called DHCP). The one drawback is the IP can change periodically to those devices. So issuing a static IP to the Soundcraft is important because you need to always get it. 😎

You would need to do a bit of different configuration to get something like this to work. It's a bit more complex and unfortunately it's just a lot to put down here and I'd have to experiment to figure all the particulars. You would be better off directly connecting it to your main internet-connected router which would save a lot of steps. But unless this is a permanent installation you are not gaining much doing this.

I am still running into connectivity issues. I am following your steps : I set the gateway on the UI to match the Netgear router's IP address. The subnet is the same as well. I assigned a unique IP address on the UI with 1 digit less than the gateway address (like you did). I then fired up my ipad and select either the Soundcraft's or the NetGear wifi and Safari says it cant find internet hence NOT loading the UI interface. What am I doing wrong ?
@djlouparis3 жыл бұрын
I will say my gateway is different then the internal routers default gateway. But not sure what worse might be at issue.
@charlesemerson98492 жыл бұрын
Be sure when you go into Safari (chrome is best according to Soundcraft Ui) to input the routers IP address not the UI’s. Unless, of course, you have it set up for Wi-Fi, as well. And that is what I do and it enables me to have 10 iPads and the band members mixing their own monitors. I have also experimented with connecting the wan port to my ethernet jack on my computer. So far, it has extended and the Soundman is able to go at least 40 yards into the audience. I also have a dedicated extender so that it could go even further. I am using the Apple extreme by the computer and an apple express towards the back of the room to extend it. Just remember you are not dealing with the Internet, you are dealing with a webpage in the UI mixer. It will always say “no Internet” because you are simply locating the page sent out by the UI mixer. When the UI is connected to the router using the routers address, that is why you use the routers address in the web browser because it’s like you’re all then in one house with the same address and you will be able to see and utilize the page that’s in the UI mixer. The router allows multiple devices to enter the address and communicate with the UI mixer. Hence, you can have up to 10 iPads, maybe more. That is something that I will have to work on and put on my KZbin channel someday. I hope this helps!

When you set your other UI to 101 rather than 102 how do you know what to set your subnet mask set to? Another scenario, if I run the external router via Ethernet cable to UI and then run Ethernet from the external router to a laptop can I still operate the global settings of the unit wirelessly with an iPad and all aux users wirelessly as well. Laptop is meant to be redundant just in case issues with the wifi. Is there anything that needs to be done with the settings of the laptop? By hooking up a laptop to a router would that cause it to just be recognized as another device just like the UI where wireless users could potentially hook into Laptop rather than being what I want it to be as the interface to the UI? If that’s the case would it make more sense to run Ethernet from the second Ethernet port direct to the laptop and use the first Ethernet port for Ethernet hook up to the router for wireless?
@djlouparis3 жыл бұрын
Subnets are generally straight forward. Putting it simply a 255.255.255.0 address says "control these IP addresses from .1 - .254". If I did 255.255.252.0 that means control a block of 4 IPs addresses which gives me 1016 IP addresses on that network", and so on. 255.255.255.0 is the most common subnet to apply and requires no math other than "the entire range" of that IP address block.

Your video is very well done, but after watching it, this seems like an extremely complicated additional step. For most shows I do, the ipad connects just fine to the Soundcraft; but I have had friends who said they thought they needed one. Is the router really necessary for my purposes? Is there some other purpose that the router is used for here, other than the one I am focusing on? Any advice would be welcome, Thanks
@NodRoland3 жыл бұрын
I'm in a similar situation to you, rock band using a UI16. If your iPad is connecting and staying connected and you don't intend to connect any other devices to the hotspot then you may not need to use an external router. Mine has been problematic from the outset with connection issues that are likely due to wifi interference but also happen when there is little or no interference so I don't have any faith in the internal router on the UI. It seems to be a pretty common problem and if you're not having that problem count yourself lucky. I'm using a external router so I can (hopefully) have more than one device (tablet or phone) connected to the UI16 through the router (so others can adjust their own monitor level, for instance), to reduce or eliminate the connection dropouts and so I can use 5G to avoid the frequencies (specifically 2.4G) that some of our wireless items (guitar and in-ears) use.

First sorry for the long wait on the response. YT is terrible on notifying me. It is an additional step but once it is setup then it's pretty much auto pilot. Thanks for the video. I have two questions 1. Once configured how do you actually connect? Do you access the Soundcraft UI hotspot access point on your iPad and then type the new routers IP address in the browser? This is the only way it seems to work for me. 2 I found a video on UIs site where they choose a IP address for the UI outside the start and end IP range, not within like you demonstrate. Will this still work?
@djlouparis3 жыл бұрын
So if configured right, you would reach the Ui from the new router, but via a static IP (like in my case I use 192.168.101.2 for my ceremony rig and 192.168.102.2 for my reception rig. The .1 address would be accessing the new router directly. The other video you are seeing (I am just guessing) it sounds like they setup a DHCP range in the router. But unless you are setting in the router a dedicated IP in the table you would potentially be left with guessing which IP the router is assigning the Ui. That's why I set a IP so I know where to go.

Sorry just seeing this. YT did not alert me to all my comments of the past few weeks. No this is to configure a wireless router so you can control with any wireless device.
