Configuring MFX Locomotives with Märklin Mobile Station 2 (MS2 Episode 3)

This video illustrates how to configure MFX locomotives on the Märklin Mobile Station 2. This tutorial will show how to change the most common parameters of the locomotive to suit your needs. The tutorial illustrates how to change locomotive symbol, the name, volume, speed settings. Finally, it is shown how to reset a locomotive.
The tutorial covers Mobile Station with software version 3.112. Newer versions should work the same, but some older may not. If you have an older software version consider upgrading your Mobile Station 2 to the latest version.
WARNING: Changing these settings may make your locomotive inoperable if you are not careful. However, you can reset the locomotive to factory settings. Be aware that reset might not work as intended on early or non-factory delivered decoders.

Hi Rick, I do not have any experience with LGB, so please take what I am mentioning below with a grain of salt. I suggest asking the LGB community and/or your favorite LGB store. I am not sure the MS2 alone will work with digital LGB locomotives. The MS2 as such will work, but I am not sure about the power needed. The MS2 can digitally be used with MFX, MM and DCC which will work with LGB locomotives. However, it comes with a small power supply that might not be enough for LGB locomotives. Interestingly, I see that there is a connector box (Märklin 60114) that works with Märklin 1-gauge - so it might be possible? When purchasing a MS2 alone you also need a connector box and a power supply - check out this video on how to get started with the MS2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJm7Y32ujNaEm68 I have only seen the MS2 in Märklin, Trix and Minitrix starter sets - not in LGB starter sets. I think the reason LGB is not mentioned with the MS2 is that LGB is specifically for outdoor use and the MS2 connector box and power supply are for indoor use. If you are using LGB indoors, I suspect you can get away with using the MS2 with the connector box for 1-gauge (Märklin 60114) and a compatible power supply ( (66360 / 66361 (230v) or 66365 / 66367 (120v) ). However, I have not tried it and cannot guarantee it will work. The way forward for LGB seems to be the CS3 with the matching LGB power supplies that are rated for outdoor use. Enjoy ;-)

My locomotive (märklin 37030) doesn’t seem to respond when I change the vmax, acc or dec settings. I tried “removing” and then adding the loco again but to no avail. Is there something else I can try?

The Märklin 37030 seems to be an older simpler decoder (delta?) with fewer functions. According to the manual on page 4 "Adjustable acceleration/braking delay (simultaneous). Adjustable maximum speed." is possible. Please do note it says simultaneous adjustment of acceleration/braking delay. Looking at page 22 in the manual I see it supports register 03 (acc) and 05 (vmax), but not 04 (dec). My guess is that you can adjust vmax/acc and dec will be the same as acc. Furthermore, acc can only be 01-31 and vmax 01-63. I suggest that you try with each parameter with minimum value, then maximum value as indicated above to see the effect. Note: When you remove and add the locomotive, the MS2 will think it might have default values as I do not believe it can read the values of this decoder. Consider resetting the locomotive before more experimentation. Hope this helps! enjoy ;-)

If you are talking about controlling trains from a cell phone - no that will not work with Mobile Station 2 (MS2). MS2 does not have any ability to connect to WiFi/internet. The app was made for Central Station 2. To control trains using the Central Station 3 you can use any browser from , phone, PC, Mac, etc. Did that help? Enjoy :-)

Hey nice video! I have a question, I have 2 trains with the same adress but i want to drive them at the same time on the same track so how do you do that?

Hi Nathan, If they are MFX locomotives, then just put them on the track and drive. After they are registered you can access both locomotives from the Mobile Station 2 and drive the - even at the same time. If they are non-MFX locomotives then they must have different addresses. There are two address schemes you can choose from Märklin Motorola (MM) or DCC. For MM addresses. Typically, Märklin delivers the locomotives with different MM addresses so there is a high chance that they will work out of the box. You can typically find the address in the manual. You can be unlucky that the two locomotives with same address (typically if it is a non-Märklin locomotive). Then you must change the address. Unfortunately, I do not have a video on this, but it is easy. Make sure it is the only locomotive and no accessories on the track (have a separate track with nothing connected for this). Then select the locomotive on the MS2 and hit: SHIFT+locomotive, select Change Loco, then Address and enter a new address. If it is an older locomotive, then there is a dip switch inside you must physically change. Check the manual. @@nathanpino3192 Hi Nathan, the MS2 is the controller shown in this video. As you commented on this video I thought this was the one you used. Perhaps double check what model train brand you have - just to be sure this video is the correct one. This video is for Märklin model trains with it's special track - when you are running digital. A CS2 looks different - check out the Märklin site: www.maerklin.de/en/products/details/article/60213 You also have a CS3, which is a newer version of the CS3. I have a 29074 digital starter set. The BR 74 854 locomotive already circulated on the rails. Today it no longer appears registered in the mobile station 60657. How to recover the locomotive? Thanks

Hi Milton, You had made the same comment multiple times in both English and German. I removed all but this one. Just to be sure I got it right. I understand you have taken the locomotive off your layout, deleted from you Mobile Station 2 (MS2). Then you are trying to put it on the layout again and it will no longer trigger the MFX detection? Question: What has happened between it worked and now it does not work? Did you bring it to another layout? Have you used with a CS3 - or another MS2? ...or have you had a short circuit on you layout and something happened? A couple of steps you could try to get started: 1. What is the version number of your MS2? Use SHIFT+Turnout then select "MS2 Information". The latest SW is V 3.148. What version do you have? 2. Which plug have you used to connect the MS2 to the connector box. The plug closest to the power plug? If not try to connect to the other one and see if this makes any difference. 3. Are the wheels and the slider of you locomotive clean? Are you sure you get a good connection to the track? 4. is the connector box connector properly to the track? Any loose connections? 5. How do you know the locomotive gets power? Any light or other? 6. Does other locomotives work on the same layout as you are having troubles with? Try to check out the items below and let me know what you find. Really interested in what has happened between it worked and now. Finally, did I understand the issue correctly? Hope this will help! Can you use the mobile station with m track?

Märklin digital also works on M-tracks, so the Mobile Station 2 will work with these. You will have to modify the wires going from the connector box to the track - that one is special for C-track. I would expect that you can modify it to connect to M-track. Remember locomotives must be digital to work with the Mobile Station 2. If you are converting a layout from analogue to digital there might be something you need to think about, but generally it should relatively straight forward. Personally, I have not tried it - ask around if anybody has experience. Anybody here tried MS2 with M-track or converting a M-track layout to digital that can help Luc? Haw do you Update to version 3.112

Unfortunately the Mobile Station 2 does not connect to a PC or the internet. This means you either need a Central Station 3, Central Station 2 or another Mobile Station 2 with the update. Ask a friend or the nearest Märklin dealer if they can help. Before I got my Central Station I always found my local model train shop to be helpful. I heard somewhere that a new version either just came out or will come out in the near future. Hope you get it updated - enjoy :-)

However, as I understand it they are the same just in different colours.
