Love to see the younger generation listen and appreciate my fav band since I was 14 yrs old. Seen them live 9 times and that still wasn't enough. Met Geddy Lee at a Maple Leafs hockey game in the early 80's just around when this live album was produced. Total gentleman and a class act. So many songs you still need to hear. Keep going down the rabbit hole! Love your reactions. Genuine, and I can see the joy you're getting from this experience with your channel.

As a prog rock drummer of over 45 years experience and multi-instrumentalist I find myself listening to a track many times, analysing each instrument and part, but then I just turn off the lights, put on the headphones and relax and listen to the track as a whole. Rush is one of my favourite bands of all time. RIP Niel, you are sorely missed by musicians and fans alike. ✌️❤️🇬🇧

It never ceases to amaze me how Alex and Geddy can joke and jostle on stage while playing one of the most complex and demanding pieces of music ever written. Each member is playing at least three instruments and keeping perfectly in synch through multiple transitions, tempo changes, and themes. Fun Fact: Kublai Khan who decreed the Pleasure Dome lived about 700 years ago, yet they have the line, "a thousand years have come and gone," meaning this was written in the future!

The Rush Fandom is full of really cool people and we will gladly point you in any direction you want with them. Rush is one of the most impressive bands of their time. Watching you fall in love with them reminded me of my first listen to them. It was an amazing feeling of finding that one band I can feel connected with and can admire . I hope you will continue to feel the same way with Rush and whatever else comes your way. Happy listening friend. ❤

Education & Entertainment: That is particularly true of Rush! Neil Peart was a big, BIG brain! He was always reading and learning and observing! He became a published author, from 1992 onward, and he has written many books. But, you can see his erudition and powerful imagination in his lyrics for Rush. This song, Xanadu, is based on an 18th century poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, one of the great Romantic poets of the age, and Neil took his idea and ran with it to create his own fantastic tale! Keep going, you're doing great!

Rush makes music for the mind. it’s a brain dance, not a get up and dance, (although there are songs you can dance to) Rush is all about mind expansion and creativity, they wanted to be the world’s smallest symphony orchestra and I think they accomplished it!! It’s encouraging to see young people appreciate this type of music… It’s not for everyone, but it is for someone who wants a little more from an artist than 3 chords 😎

I have been a fan of these gentlemen for 45 years or so. Not just as musicians, but as human beings. I'm going to make a couple of further recommendations. 1). Beyond the Lighted Stage. Rent it. Watch it for your own edification. Great insights into the band. 2) ANY version of La Villa Strangiato. Seriously. Do it. 3)The version of YYZ from Rush in Rio. Again. Do it. 4) The Pass. Geddy called this their best song. Time signature changes and the seamless way they did it is one of their trademarks. Welcome to the family. Enjoy your stay😊

Hey There, Glad you are back. This is one of Rush's masterpieces and this was a master performance of it. This is progressive rock or Prog Rock and it is close to classical music in having time changes and varied tempo. Yes, it is always best to just sit back and listen especially to Rush. LOL If you are looking for a documentary on Rush there is an excellent one called Rush Beyond the Lighted Stage and you can find it on KZbin

😂 Imma just say it.... 🤦🏿‍♀️ I do NOT understand how anyone expects to "bob their heads" to a song they've never HEARD before! 🤷🏿‍♀️ We'd listen to a Zep, Rush, Who, PF, YES, Bowie or Queen Album, 😏 like 4x, before even figuring out what songs we liked. 🤔 You don't know the rhythm, the intro, if the song has words, nothing?!? 😏 I don't know why you feel the need to bob your head, when just listening & 😁 looking surprised as you sometimes do, 🥰 is TOTALLY enough dude! 😊 We're just all happy Neil & the guys live on in folks like you discovering them the way we did, back in the day. 😂 And unless you heard the song first on the radio, you'd toss on an Album or 😒 an 8-Track and look like this 😳🤯😳 most of the way thru! Know, you are not alone! 😂😁😂🤣 Love your reactions & 🤪 more Rush please! 🥰🐰

If you are hoping for Rush to have a consistent rhythm throughout their songs, you will be disappointed. Rush's music is extremely complex with multiple time signature changes throughout most of their pieces. They do have some that don't change, but most do. Rush was very interested in complex music. Think of them as the Mozart of their day. More like composers and amazing musicians. Less like pop music. Progressive music. You can tap your foot to them, you just have to remember not to get used to that tempo because it is going to be changing soon. They are simply amazing. That is why so many bands idolized and were influenced by them.

From looking at your reaction history for Rush...I would suggest the following songs below that you haven't done yet to add to your ongoing Rush journey and reactions. All of these are fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥 - YYZ...Live from Rio 2002 (instrumental) - original was 1981 - RIO WAS ROCKIN!!!! - La Villa Strangiato - Live 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental - custom "carnival" intro) - original was 1978 - Best Intro Ever - Live version (R30 tour 2004) - various riffs from their 1970's songs leading into Spirit of Radio - original was 1980 (even though you've already done the original...this is a GREAT variation and LIVE) - Closer to the Heart (Live 1998 Different Stages) - original was 1977 (even though you've already done the original...this is a GREAT variation) - The Garden (Clockwork Angels tour live) - original was 2012 - Fly by Night - original was 1975 - Malignant Narcissism and Drum Solo - Live 2008 Snakes and Arrows Tour - original was 2007

Progressive rock is always a challenge to the ear at first. It was Rush that motivated me to become a musician and they became a gateway drug from hard rock head bangers like I was in my teens into progressive rock. Then I realized that I wanted to learn every drum fill, time signature change, every shot, every rest of every song on every album. Then I moved into YES, determined to learn and conquer all of Bill Bruford's drum parts, then John Bonham, Phil Collins, Stewart Copeland etc. I became a professional drummer and it is all Neil's fault!! So beware young listeners, it could happen to you too, the Rush pill is VERY red!!

I've listened to Rush all my life and have seen this video, at least, over 100 times but you just introduced a new thought into my head when you commented that you were trying to find "the beat". The thought was, you aren't in grade school or even high school anymore music-wise. When you listen to Rush, you're in Grad School, Ph.D!! Rush changes their time signatures many times in most of their songs or instrumentals and this can make it hard to "find that beat" which makes the music more interesting and fun to listen to. My advice to you is give up the beat and let the music just wash over you; listen closely to the lyrics because they can contain some important messages and life lessons. I've learned a great deal from Rush songs over the years and specific lyrics (even just one line) can come to mind in the funniest of situations. One example that constantly resonates with me is the line "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice." i'll let you find the song to which it belongs on your own but there are many gems along the way if you are open to them. Glad your are listening to Rush and I'd suggest also listening to Pink Floyd which is another high-level prog-rock band that is worth your time, I promise. I just checked and see that you have discovered them but re-listen to the song "Comfortably Numb" with the Pulse concert version so you can get the full experience as Pink Floyd had, arguably, the best live show ever staged. Good luck and happy listening my young friend.

Young man- you don’t even know how it warms my ol fat guy heart to see you truly appreciate this band. Legends in their own time and beyond. Their talents will live on forever- although Mr Peart has left us- RIP😔 That one you just saw was done in ‘77 on the Farewell To Kings album. The next album in ‘78 was Hemispheres. I HIGHLY recommend you check out La Villa Strangiato. A 10-11 minute instrumental jam. It’s unreal. I’ve only seen them live 6 times but when I saw them in ‘90 on the Presto tour they did both Xanadu and La Villa in the same show. I seriously got a little dizzy and light-headed. The blow-you-away intensity of a live show is indescribable. Also check out Far Cry from the Snakes and Arrows album. I saw them twice on that tour in ‘97. Welcome to the Rush fam!

Dude! I was little kid listening to bands like RUSH, and Iron Maiden, etc and I made a goal. I promised myself I would learn guitar and understand and play along with my fav bands. My Mother forced us into piano, God love her. I eventually got to catch up with Iron Maiden and a lot of my favs on guitar. It took me a long time though over 20 years lol! :) But the journey itself was well worth the effort. I am glad I got to do that. There is nothing like the feeling like you are part of the band playing at home listening to them and you hit most of it :) Be well!

1981. Meadowlands, New Jersey. Rush. My very first concert. You'll learn a tremendous lot from Neil's lyrics...if you study them, may he rest in peace. If you haven't already, do Natural Science...which dovetails well with George Carlin's Save The Planet bit. You need to read Samuel Coleridge's poem Kubla Kahn, which was Neil's inspiration for this Guggernaught of a song! Beyond my parents, those who've had the most influence on who I am today have been George Carlin, Frank Zappa, and the incomparable...Neil Peart.

Yes, with Rush indeed just listen. Don't let thinking get in your way, not right off anyway. In recent times I see all kinds of people with interest in music doing all kinds of reviews of songs like this, created some 30-40 years ago and some use gadgets to print out or display the scores and such... Meaningless really. Yes, all kinds of time signature changes, woven creatively and played seemingly with flawless effort... You need to have a toolbox full of repertoire before trying this at home. A huge skill-set to be readily available to draw from at less than half seconds apart. To mimic or play to Rush's music all you need then is to feel it. To be able to react without thinking. Glad you took this on. If their music ever seems to deep do what America's Got Talent judges advise... Breathe. Props bro! Hang in there! Good job!

Almost every other band: uses a synthesizer Neil: synthesizers are for bass players. Bring me tubular bells, cowbells, wooden blocks and yes, an entire xylophone. I may someday also want a spinny-spinny drum platform, so I can have at least *two* ridiculously monstrous sets of percussion at every show. I’m also waitlisted for Buddy Rich’s drum clinic so I may have to scoot off early. Alex: OK well I have my double double and my foot pedals. Geddy: I also have foot pedals. Double-double bass and I guess now the goddamn synthesizers too.

A lot of great Rock bands came from the 70’s and 80’s era but Rush produced a sound that never gets old and passed the test of time with every generation. Personally after listening to music for 45 years there’s no way to put one band as the greatest rock band of all time so for this reason I have to say that Rush is in the top 2 list of the greatest rock band of all time 😂 and Xanadu is probably their best song ever put together imho. You should definitely match La Villa Strangiato live session 1978, Tom Sawyer official video , Subdivision official video, The Big Money official video, Time Stand Still, Best intro in live in Rio, YYZ live in Rio, Limelight official video, Red Barchetta,

Rushes get this problem. We´ll got the intro give a big ass kick after this. So loving this kick you'll became a ass-kicker-lover and expect for the next. And they becamo over-and-over.

So ive been a rush fan for 45 years now. Whats interesting about Rush. At first listen it seems like alot. So i feel you however the more you listen the more it becomes part of you. When you watch 50 thousands Brazilians sing to an instrumental song , and you get it. Then your hooked for life😊

To touch on some other comments, Rush is an experience you just listen to and enjoy. Today's music with its 4/4 time and never varying beats makes it easy to just bop along to the same-old-same-old with every song. It never changes. It makes it boring. With Rush, you get a lot of varying odd time signatures that keeps the music moving and you guessing. Makes it interesting. Makes your brain listen and think. Makes truly wonderful music.

By the way, Xanadu, Exit Stage Left, is the song I asked my songs to be played when I depart from this dimension, during my farewell.....

You need to listen 5 times each song. 1st- guitar, 2nd- bass, 3rd- drums, 4th- lyrics and vocals and finally 5th the whole piece. THX ✌

If you dig Rush you will really dig Yes and Black Sabbath .these 2 bands , said Geddy Lee, " The two major influences in our music. We wanted a mutation of the 2 bands."
