How great these videos are with the similarities and differences of phrasal verbs, you are now one of my favorite English teachers on KZbin, I started following you because you seem like a professional teacher to me and that is why I think your videos are so useful for We who want to learn advanced American English, to have the opportunity to apply for jobs and university studies. I am Venezuelan and I am also grateful for how brave you are to show us some mistakes that some youtubers have who are not native American speakers. 🎉

In Home Alone movie there is a phrase "We slept in" used in a situation that can't be referred to as intentional, but don't foget that it is a comedy movie. "We slept in" in this context is likely for comedic effect. This is like antiphrasis, the words that are used to convey the opposite of their literal meaning. Like "Take your time, we've got all day" (meaning "hurry up, we don't have all day")."Tell me about it" (in the sense of "don't bother, I already know").

Hi Kevin great lesson as always...In the "Home Alone" movie Kevin's parents overslept by accident but when they wake up they say "We slept in"...Is this correct?
@fredylopez2477
@fredylopez2477 13 күн бұрын
I don't remember what they said in that scene but maybe they woke up very early that's why they decided to sleep in but in the long run they really overslept. BUT the first time they slept in that's why they said it when they woke up the second time.
@pashu16af
@pashu16af 13 күн бұрын
There could be a crossover that caused them say it in that way, a link to the previous scenes in the movie, so they said that kind of intentionally

In “Home alone” they wake up late for the plane to Paris and parents cry out “We slept in!”and start running around like crazy … Why not “We overslept!”, they obviously didn’t do it intentionally…
@fredylopez2477
@fredylopez2477 13 күн бұрын
I don't remember what he said in that scene but you're right, they overslept (not slept in) because they wanted to wake up early to catch the airplane in time but they didn't set the alarm clock therefore they woke up very late.

Sleep in i guess the you have a Day off and you slept in on purpose but sometimes it's negative that you sleep in and you have very important thing to do but you didn't do it because you slept in please correct me if lm wrong have a fantastic time yall
@fredylopez2477
@fredylopez2477 13 күн бұрын
I didn't get what you tried to mean, or your question but Kevin said: - You "sleep in" when you sleep late AND you do it on purpose, you mean to do it, it's your intention to do that or you do it intentionally. ON THE OTHER HAND, AND ON THE CONTRARY. - You "oversleep" when you sleep late BUT you don't do it on purpose, you don't mean to do it, It's NOT your intention to do that or you don't do it intentionally. Maybe the things that you gotta do aren't very important, that's why you decide to sleep in, BUT if those things are relevant and essential then you set your alarm clock and wake up early enough. I hope I helped.

@@shieldstar5629 "to sleep over" means to sleep in someone else's place or house, not to sleep more than usual it's got nothing to do with "to sleep in". Well, what I can see right now is that you like to scramble and you don't text the words correctly, like in; plant, the correct one is "planned" in that case. - this is what I was saying to say. ?.??? Well.
