Just finished going through this lesson. So great. Thank you. I was thinking that one way that would be really great to learn/feel the differences between these different variations is to put a few transcriptions on top of each other. What you already do and how you describe it works really well, but for folks that get a lot out of the written transcriptions, it would be super helpful to start differentiating things in a visual way too . Thanks again for these amazing lessons. -Mel

Hey Mel, thanks for your comment, glad you dug the lesson! I think it's an important part of the learning process for the student to do exactly what you just described : ) The transcriptions are on screen under each example as you can see. I strongly encourage you to write each one down and analyze the small differences between them, as it will positively impact your understanding of the patterns, and how they work in respect to the clave. Of course ultimately, these are patterns and variations that you will want to internalize and play from memory. Call me old school, but I strongly believe that the real progress is in the process! Back in the days before KZbin, I wrote down each of Giovanni Hidalgo's DCI instructional videos note for note, top to bottom, by hand (with no provided on screen transcriptions whatsoever) and I can attest that it helped me retain, understand and truly appreciate the information much more than if I didn't have to work just that little bit (or lotta bit ha!) extra for it. I hope that doesn't sound too harsh! This little tidbit is meant to empower you, NOT discourage you. You already have a leg up with the examples notated on screen and things played slowly (another luxury not afforded by those Gio VHS's! lol), so if you take a moment to jot them down and analyze them, your conga playing will surely thank you for it 🙌🏼

Por mucho tiempo escuchaba éste tumbao' en distintasgrabaciones, en Marc Quiñones al grabar con Tony y en el Arreglo de Amor a Medio de Bobby Valentin tiempo también y no sabía porque ocurría esta variación. Don't just use it to warm-up, use it to groove! If you keep an ear out for it as your listening to different recordings, you'll really start to understand when and where to use it 🙌🏼

Muy buenas las vacaciones, pero veo que el tumbao de la tumba lo metes en clave 2/3 siendo que va la parte 3 de la clave.

En el tercer video de la serie explicamos cómo tocar la tumbadora al “lado” 2. Ambas formas son “correctas” con tal que la clave esté delineada dentro del resto del patrón.
