While I'm not in favor of frivolous Congressional spending, I think it would be wise to build a dormitory specifically for members of Congress. Just a plain apartment building with small studio apartments: kitchenette, bathroom, and a room for sleeping/working/relaxing.

Jason Chaffetz understands the importance of financially supporting his family, and was willing to make sacrifices in order to send his children to college. In addition, it appears that he willing to make sacrifices as to his living quarters in order to save a few thousand dollars a month. His honesty about living with other people besides his family....priceless !

Don't understand why the government doesn't just provide them with some sort of living space. Here in Canada, if you win a seat in Parliament the government gives you residence in Ottawa.

They should build a thing with the amount of studio apartments required for every congressman and which ever congressman decides not to live there has to rent an apartment own and the apartment can be rented on two year contracts

That's what I was thinking. The more money they can save from their budget, the more they can put into their own pocket. Who wants to be sleeping on a cot in a closet unless there is some benefit? I don't believe for a minute they are being altruistic, just slick.
