I live in one of those hippie states where the game wardens want to do away with trapping. They require us to put a tag on every trap with our name, address and driver's license #. Why? So you can find my trap and give me a ticket for some technicality? A ticket that will cost me no less than $200! I'd rather not put my tag on it and let you steal my $30 conibear or my $2 snare, then avoid the ticket. Considering the stupid crap I've gotten tickets for over the years, they make me sick. Yet they let the foreigners shoot 100 ducks (the limit is six), watch them float down the river rather than retrieving them and when I call the DNR to complain, they don't even show up. I got a $200 ticket once for shooting a crippled goose from a boat with the motor running after I initially shot the bird completely legally. I got a $250 ticket for driving through a gate in a game area that was marked for no motor vehicles, however the sign was on the gate that was swung wide open, so unless I have x-ray eyes that can read through the back of a metal sign, how would I know?

I hit a deer once while stationed at Camp Lejeune N.C. back in the 80's. In no time, 2 or 3 other Marines coming from base housing had stopped then some MP's rolled up. The only conversation that took place was how long ago did I hit it, and would I mind if they split the meat.

good morning , I was going through some older videos and hit this one . I have a lot of the same opinions ! - Back about 1983 I had finished 2 years of college for Conservation , 4 years of Law enforcement "in the Air Force " and was working a seasonal job "the only one I could get at that time " . I had passed the state exam to become a N.Y.S. D.E.C. Officer ., and was working with them in an auxiliary positions . I was sent to an area to catch a "Poaher " . Found him and talked to him , he had just lost his wife do to illness and was trying to feed 3 small children with no job . Aprox. 500 yrds down the same Rd . a different man had shot a "legal " 10 pt buck , and had it hung in his front yrd. for all too see . I asked the owner of the 10 pt. if he would donate it to a needy family , and he got Nasty and said they could shoot thier own deer ! Long story shorter , I got punished for not issuing tickets , don't work in ANY law enforcement any more . ( but I did learn how to put food on the table if necessary ) .

I'm late to watching this but I COULDNT AGREE MORE!!!!!!! Great video. I have a friend that, by law, needs a tag to take a doe. He NEVER gets doe tags and shoots usually 3 or so doe a season. He's not doing it for sport... he does it to feed his family. And when he has enough meat in the freezer... he stops. On top of that, he DOES NOT over hunt. He takes a few deer out and that's it. And I see no problem with that. Personally, I have a guilt issue,,, I cant do anything against the law but if it came to it... I would as long as its not messing things up big time like you said. Great video!

My prayer is future generations can experience the joys of hunting, fishing, trapping, and providing for our families using they skills you teach and promote. Im a Michigan meat trapper,hunter,fisherman.. Our rules and regs anymore are designed to confuse and catch violators rather than the continuing support of the reproduction and sustainability of healthy game in our state. Our dept of natural resources will annually conduct fish kills , poison off catfish (brown, black, yellow bullheads and suckers in our inland lakes, yet not( allow) we the people to trap,or run trot lines . Another example, Our wardens have more enforcement powers than our state police, they at anytime can trespass, enter our homes and completely search the entire home without a warrant , as well as confiscate personal property at will. The pirates are in charge.

Very well said ! At the young age of 20 I lived in Illinois. We had to have a FOID Card to buy ammo a rifle or a shotgun Illinois law... I had my Foid card then one day out of no where state contacted me saying I had a felony & had to relinquish my card. they had me mixed up with a different fella w/same name. so 7 yrs later I tried to get it back, No way was they going to give me a foid card. because this other guy molested a young child. I went on & hunted fed myself, cops knew I was hunting, but left me alone. I tanned hides trapped, fished w/license then became disabled. since then I still buy my fishing license over the counter. knowing my $$ going back into the fishery & I bought hunting license too. I still have my guns for hunting, so I can feed my family & friends. At over fifty I still don't have a foid card. I moved from Illinois. Police said I can buy guns in my new state where I live. I'm wanting to go back to Illinois try & get foid card & if not sue their ass. my right 2nd amendment says I can bare arms. Long Live the man or woman who wants to feed their family.

I’m a retired game warden and I agree with pretty much all of what you said. I stressed to young game wardens I had under my supervision to use COMMON SENSE when enforcing laws (like you said about the legal sized cable about beaver). When politicians write laws we are stuck with what they wrote and probably won’t like what they pass. For example there are some laws (written decades ago) that are on the books here that literally NO ONE can tell me why they are written into law. I used that as a good example to my guys that when our own agency had no idea why a law was on the books why should we best people over the head with it?? One law in particular I asked from the academy up until I retired 25 years later why that law was there and NOT A SINGLE PERSON COULD TELL ME I really like your videos and the way you promote trapping and fishing by means other than hook and line. 👍👍👍

One of my favorite lines from the most recent Robin Hood movies with Russell Crowe, "If you take away a man's right to fend for himself, how then in his own right can he be a man?" It's been my observation that the people who are quick to correct you, do so out of their own faults. Not one of us is without fault. We are all a poor judgement call or decision away from doing something wrong. We need to hold true to our own personal convictions, stop worrying about what others do and be mindful in our own decision making....period. One of the things that drew me to your videos is your dedication to adhere to the truth. You are the man!

Thank you for your common sense approach to game laws. We live in Australia and it is mostly illegal to hunt kangaroos and wallabies unless you have a "license" which is very expensive. And yet there are thousands of them and they are excellent eating, like venison. Poor families are struggling to feed themselves and yet these excellent game animals are everywhere! And yet clear-felling , both "legal" and "illegal" is rampant. The trees (excellent straight tall timber species) are munched into pulp and shipped to Japan or China for paper making, including toilet paper. And the royalties that the Crown receives? $5 AUD a tonne! Firewood foragers are charged royalties of $20 AUD a tonne, to go onto this same clearing and clean up the scrap wood and they are absolutely positively are NOT allowed to sell it!

Well said sir. In my area we have " Clear Cuts" They don't even pretend it is progress. It is all chipped no matter the size. Used to fire boilers to feed energy to large companies.

+Trapper 996 Yep, everybody thinks it's sportsmen who kill animals - but there are others out there that are far more indiscriminate than any trapper ever thought about being!

Every year there is a bigger disconnect between the bush men and the university educated wild life officers up here in northern canada.

I had a neighbor for awhile who I consider a moral poacher. He never took more than he could use, and never wasted meat. He hated poachers who would cut a gator's tail and dump the rest into the water.

I can't say I agree with all your points; living in a different country gives me a different perspective after all, but you're certainly right about rich corporations and their politician buddies consuming natural land. It's a moral crime, if nothing else.

Man, you're a lot older than me. But you and me would be best friends. I have literally been nodding my head this whole video because I agree with every point you made! We need more men like you in this world. And i love how you said "because you need to pay to exercise your God given 2nd amendment right" sarcastically. Ha ha thank you man.

I have many similar thoughts. Been chased around for things like "leaving the designated path." So frustrating when a couple miles away is 300ha of industry activity. Also legally someone can shoot and kill 8 ruffed grouse a day but hunting with a spear or sling shot where you might get 1 a week is illegal in some places. hmmmm?

+MrNighthawkcharlie Yes, crazy isn't it? In the end every man must decide for himself how he will live and be responsible for himself. Thank you for watching sir. Have a good evening.
