Eric, they used to use domains back when that OS was created but stopped using them because it was too complicated to write latin characters and people preferred to type numbers

Cubans are able to access the internet - the service is quite bad afaik, some US websites restrict access and use due to sanctions, and there may be some limited censorship but it's not blocked in any way.

Having been there myself Cubans are very much able to access to internet. Basically everyone has an smartphone of some sort. I was tweeting during my time there and using whatsapp with my hosts. Many Cubans run AirBnB's as part of the Casa Particular program. Most of the problems Cubans have regarding the internet are from the US government. The Cuban government approached them about building an undersea cable to Miami to lessen the current bottlenecks but the US refused. They are dealing with a situation similar to Australia or New Zealand 10 or 15 years ago where there are data caps for basic service and a higher cost service is unlimited. My hosts in Santiago de Cuba has a Nintendo Switch modded to pirate games, they would torrent movies and shows, etc. Tourists have a much more limited access to the internet as low priority users. You buy access using single use cards that last for 1 hour.

@@redoktopus3047 I was wondering wtf those odd datacaps were about when I was in Australia in 2010. I was in Australia for summer vacation (I'm from the US) and I remember seeing an advert on TV where they were advertising non-unlimited internet plans where you pay by GB per month. I was just a kid back then but I thought Australia was ass-backwards for having a limited data system like that. Being so used to unlimited data in the US.

As someone who used to use Windows XP and Linux back then, this is more reminiscent of KDE 3.5, nowadays known as Trinity Desktop Environment (Fork of KDE 3.5). I'd have to say, KDE3 was pretty neato, but having to hear Windows XP's SFX on a North-Korean made Linux Distro makes me absolutely conflicted... Edit: even Windows Vista/7 Icons?! JESUS CHRIST-

The icon theme is probably some off-the-shelf thing, its inclusion of OS icons was not the North Koreans’ fault. And it doesn’t look very XP-ish to me, it’s very typical KDE3 stuff, just with a slightly more XP-eseque Start Menu and sounds.

Newer versions exist because their few public facing servers report a newer version, one South Korean journalist got a few screenshots and had access I think but didn't release any ISO. We only have 4.0 and 2.0 though, maybe in future we can get newer versions though but I imagine a lot of older and newer versions just become lost media

@propsekgamer

I think windows might win. The north Korean is a strong competitor with a lot of spyware. Windows 11 actively communicates with Microsoft. On recall enabled PCs it saves anything you do to in jpg and unencrypted database format. Most of this recall stuff is local but soon enough it will be sent to Microsoft after an update. Also it has ads while the north Korean competitor doesn't. +Microsoft will continue adding spyware for like 10+ years till they release a new, even worse os.

Why does the OS has an installer when someone could be spyed on for formatting their computer? Do people on the NK actually have ISO's of the OS to begin with? Honestly it's pretty interesting to think about how it works internally but sadly we don't had any journalists actually looking into that specifically :(
