Do you have any advice if your horse does not want to go forward? I can ask her to walk and trot and she is perfectly fine and I’ll reward and give her treats but she refuses to canter. I would like it to be a happy experience for her to canter. On the ground she has no problem doing everything.

It seems more like her hips go forward and back more than up and down. That’s ok right?

Hi, yes, but I think it feels much more up and down. It's common for riders to hold tension in their hips and lose contact with the saddle/horse in the 'down' portion, so focusing on allowing your hips to drop and then be lifted helps you to follow the whole of your horse's movement. If you think about swinging the hips forward and back, it's easy to get into a twist through the pelvis, which we don't want. But, it's hard to find the right words to describe a feeling, so different descriptions or visualisations can help different people get the same movement.
