Connie...I downsized my life since the 2008 RECESSION!.......I LIVE my life simple but nice, DEBT free , healthy, spirtual but NOT religious!...I still drive my 2011 Kia RIO ...just hit 66,100 miles, well maintained and I brought it from ENTERPRISE April 2012, with 30,000 miles on it!...I decluttered and replenished certain things during the pandemic, SO I do not need a single thing FOR THE next 10 years!....It's ONLY me and my Pomeranian dog!.....I am purchasing a new bed, 3 side chairs...after 11 years they're not as comfortable or support my spine, I'm waiting for the sales next year!...I eat a flexible vegetaranian way of eating and moderate exercise and lots of water, NO Red meat or Pork and NO sugary foods and drinks, fast food, ...I do Not want or own a microwave!...I cook ALL meals at home, eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, NO deli meats or breakfast meats!...LIVING my life DEBT free, simple, spirtual, healthy, .etc....I HAVE better sleep, peace, health, very little stress, happier, more independent, and able to adjust to this pre depression status were living in or headed for!!...I DONT NEED IT BIGGER OR BETTER!....I'M VERY THANKFUL TO GOD FOR ALL MY BLESSINGS AND HARD WORK!

I adopted minimalism about 5 years ago but STILL find myself tempted at times. Just got a notice that my favorite clothing company has a trench coat on offer. My friends think I am completely nuts having a closet with "just" the right amount of clothing and nothing more. That said, I almost allowed myself to buy that trench-coat--which I do not need. Living in a consumer society this is an uphill battle all the way. I am completely debt free and feel so much lighter these days but there are still times where the urge to spend frivolously tries to catch up with me. Thanks for your programs.

It is not about enjoying vs not enjoying life, it is about avoiding waste and avoiding unnecessary clutter which brings stress. If one buys lots of stuff that are useful and bring joy to them, then that is great. But most of us buy unnecessary things that we dont need which fill up our homes and become clutter and having to manage all that becomes stressful.

Agree, mum and dad scrimped and saved all their lives and died in an old, run down house with hundreds of thousands in the bank. The flip side being that we guess they were happy, at least they appeared to be. It's still sad though, they saved for that rainy day that never came.

I found your video just now and enjoyed it. I have been working from home since March 2020 due to the pandemic. I was never a big spender. So far, I have donated 75-80% of my work wardrobe. Being home all day I realized I didn't need so much furniture, so I sold a few items. Here is the best part. For over 25 years I have had a holiday account at my bank. I have a certain amount of money deposited into the account each month. This past year I saved $7000! I look forward to your future videos. I am in bed sick with the "virus" so now I will enjoy watching your past videos resting in bed. Happy holidays. 🎄🎉

Speaking of cars. This is one my proudest endeavors of my life. Although it didn’t start out that way. In 1998, my husband and I were trading in my Toyota Camry that he bought me when we got married. It was a lease and it the 3 year trade/keep point. We upgraded to a brand new loaded Toyota 4-Runner. The minute we pulled off the lot I had a sinking feeling in my gut that we had made a mistake. Payments were $435 in 1998. Insurance was high and so were property taxes. But we stuck it out. A few years later we refinanced our home and paid off the 4 Runner. I’m proud to say I’m still driving it to this day. 243,000 miles. Insurance is cheap, and property taxes are $68/year and dropping. We maintain it by repairing ANYTHING that goes wrong which is waaaay cheaper than buying a new car. At this point it’s almost like an appendage. I would be so lost without it.

I have 2 categories: need, want. So, I plan for things that are needed, then splurge on fun things I want/gives me Joy (after needs are met). I find that balance works for me/my family. So for example: I love lots of kitchen equipment (food processor, instant pot, bread maker, crock pots, etc). It brings me joy to cook for myself and others as well as being healthy, and saves money (don't eat out much). Balance is the key. Enjoyed your video;).

I’m a ovo-vegetarian and instead of 6 free tange eggs I just eat 3, with rice and beans, which is a complete meal. I love my simple life. The thing with the phone is so me. After a year of problems with mine I finally switched. The rest I want to work on, and also that I buy to much of what I like in periods. Don't want to have a really minimal home, but airy with some empty spaces. It's a progress and we came a long way by going through the things twice the last couple of years. So I really like our home now. But I really struggle with photos. Have a lot and don't want to dive in it again. I never sorted them all through before. I don't want to leave it like it is, so I guess I must. Every round we sorted more things out. I have very severe fatigue because of MS, pain and burn out. That makes it so hard these days to just take some desicions. We keep a donate bag in the hallway and put things in it when we come across somethig we don't want or use. Things I love, but don't actually use, are the hardest except from photos. I still have to much of those clothes and stuff. I wish I could do it faster this round but it's not possible. A more airy house makes everything more easy. But a real minimalist is not me. I would say my son is. He travels abroad many times in a years and does not like things at all. I doubt he even buy clothes. He just wears what I give him for birthdays and Christmas. Thank you for a nice channel. I have problems watching tv because of my brain tiredness, but Youtbe has short videos and I can lower the speed of it if the person speaks to fast. I am much inspired by your channel. Really nice and I love the calm and slow tempo in your videos. Thanks a lot! ❤️ / Stina

Thank you for a great video. I've been practicing what you're talking about here and I had a small professional organizing business for awhile. My vehicle is almost 19 years old and works fine so it doesn't need replacing and I bought it used as well. The only specialty appliance I have is my bread maker but that's because I stopped buying store bread years ago and I find with the ingredients bought in bulk, one loaf of bread costs about .60 cents. So I use the bread maker a lot. I have one purse that's about 5 years old and about 3 pairs of shoes as well as my winter boots, all well over 4 years old. I make my own beanies and scarves that match my two winter coats and I sew my own clothes. I recently bought a new phone after the old one died after 7 years. I love saving money and having a savings account. On my downsizing page I try to get people to NOT buy like crazy for any holiday, but to start making their gifts for the following holidays at the beginning of the year. With having KZbin, a person can learn to knit, crochet, sewing etc. There are so many ways to save money. I cringe when I see what some people buy.

Thanks again for a wonderful video! I too go without kitchen gadgets but might break down and buy a food processor. I know I'll get loads of use from it. Btw. Will you please share your apple tart recipe from this video and your bread recipe as well!? Thank you! Peace and Blessings

I’m a 67 year old fit man who gets around on a bike, even in winter here in Montreal, would never own a car. Never had a cel and never will. Your lifestyle looks extravagant to me.

I definitely don’t agree on the car. I have to have a car that is reliable. It doesn’t have to be a fancy car, only one that will get me from point A to B

I thought I've always been a minimalist but now that I'm getting my (small) house ready for sale prior to retirement, I see how much crap I have. I think home ownership lures us into buying stuff, especially stuff used to maintain the property. My minimalist instincts will be better served in apartments.

You use a capsule wardrobe which I appreciate. How do you select your jewelry? It is all tasteful and beautiful. Do you buy new or used? Do you buy it at thrift stores? How do you decide when you have what you need? How do you select it’s quality? This would make an interesting video.

Great video. Your voice is very soothing and helps tell your story. The music is perfect and also very calming. ❤️ Shoes do wear out over time and the support is gone. Something to think about. Your SUV looks great. Regular maintenance helps. Thanks for all the tips. God bless you.

Hi Connie! I am on a journey towards minimalism and found your channel a few months ago. I just wanted to say that I love Subaru Outbacks (I'm on my 2nd one currently, but had an old Subaru wagon back in 1999, lol) and I'm glad to see that yours is still going strong! Your voice overs are quite calming and I enjoy watching your channel, as well! Happy Holidays to you! As a former yoga instructor who still practices nearly daily, I will definitely check out your yoga channel!

Great video - learning fast from you and regretting my mistakes. Lately I have stopped watching beauty/skin care videos and fashion influencers, I was spending loads on useless stuff. Also stuff like silk pillowcases, etc. All these add up. Now I dd intermittent fasting to lose weight with great success. I wasted money on slimming clubs, joined an rejoined over the years. Thank you I have subscribed

Not sure how I got here, but my suspicion is my recent searches for a used Subaru Outback. Funny how that works. I stayed for your lovely voice and the overall style and message of the presentation. It didn't hurt that you're stunning in a white t.
