Whilst I love these tips it does wind me up when we are espoused to buy from farmers’ markets…I don’t have time! Or the money! Farmers markets are at least twice as expensive. It is a luxury for the well off. Thank you for the tips for homemade beauty products, however!

I'm in the UK, I do occasionally go to a farmer's market, I get ideas and tend to only buy fresh salad leaves...good food is my medicine. I live very remotely, the social contact is good for my mental health too...i was deprived of social connection when I had to shield for a year...for me, it's the tiny, everyday things I seek joy and growth in now.

I just realized how much more farmer's markets are when I visited one last week and spent so much-I had to tell myself that I'm supporting the farmers-literally. The fruit wasn't all that great either, JS😌 Thank you for the other helpful tips-especially the body butter.😀

Great video! My daughter says I'm an escapee from a hippie commune because I make everything, including laundry detergent and underarm deodorant. I'm 73 and have taken a heck of a ribbing for my eccentric ways over the years, but my new dermatologist was blown away by my healthy complexion. I make my own skin care products, and he asked if I'd share my recipes, so perhaps he could convince his wife to try them. Eliminating harmful chemicals in my daily life has been my mission for decades, and it's really paying off in my old age.

Hi Connie, I also heard a few years ago, if you eat fast food, such as burgers and fries when travelling, as it is a heavy meal, it makes you more tired and therefore not good for the driver. We don't stop at those places either, always pack a lunch or stop at supermarket and gets salads, etc. Another thing we don't do, is always run the air con in the car when travelling, instead winding the windows down for air. Perhaps people think we are mad and cheap, but it saves in fuel costs as well. We live in Australia and it gets very hot in Summer, but we have a dry heat where we live inland, so we also don't run an air con all the time in our home, as we don't need it because it is not humid with the heat. I just love listening to you and your common sense way of life. Best wishes. Jo xxx

You also have to be pretty picky about which one you go to and which purveyors to buy from. The "local" produce at my towns Farmer's Market often comes from an entirely DIFFERENT state 🙄😖.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been using natural products , white and apple cider vinegar, baking soda, Castile soap, coconut oil and salt, for cleaning for most of my life. My mom taught me as a child to rinse my hair with white vinegar. My mom and grandmother made our soap. I’ve been using Castile soap for body wash and shampoo for many years. I buy a gallon at a time that will last for about a year. Coconut oil is only thing I use for body moisturizer. Like you ,I mix it with baking soda for deodorant. I mix a few drops of frankincense oil with coconut oil for my face moisturizer. As a nurse I am mindful of chemicals on the skin. Thanks for sharing.

There was just a programme done on farmers markets in Canada I believe I think it was 60 minutes. They were talking to buyers and sellers and reporting on how much stuff at farmers markets is not grown by the sellers and some is not what they are claiming to be. They are buying from others and selling it as their own, many were lying about it just to make a sale….. beware.

Update to my comment below: Connie's lovely home is rented, and the appliances were supplied by the landlord. Patti Raithel commented "Your home is beautiful, but not frugal at all. That refrigerator alone would set me back big bucks. Connie replied: "Thank you. Our home is a rental, so the fridge/appliances were already here." We don't know Connie and her family's financial circumstances or why they are living in what seems to be a lovely residence that is either rented or purchased. Their frugal living habits will help them to keep and maintain a rented or purchased residence. There are many reasons why they may be living in a lovely home that is either rented or they own and possibly there is a combination of reasons, here are a few guesses: (1) Owned or rented, it may have been a fixer-upper and they obtained it cheaper because they had to do a lot of work on it. (2) They might have inherited a house or inherited money to purchase a house (3) They may have been able to afford a lovely rental or own the home because of their frugal way of living or their frugal way of living contributed to home ownership or being able to rent a nice residence with a nice kitchen. (4) Maybe one or both of them have jobs that pay well and combined with frugal living they were able to afford to rent a lovely home or own the home. (5) If they own it, maybe they bought it at a very big discount if it was a foreclosure or for other reasons they found a great bargain.

I’m very much the artist! So….. I have my basic clothing as my base and add all the fun accessories! Most of which I make and find at thrift stores! Dressing fun is a part of me but it doesn’t have to be expensive! The only cleaning products I use is vinegar and sometimes bleach. I don’t buy anything else. I have tried homemade shampoo and conditioner….. but my hair is very curly and needs professional help! Lol! I only buy food that I need, but I do stock up on basics like beans and rice, freeze meals! I have a water bottle I use all the time and I make my own coffee! My Tupperware is plastic containers from food I have bought…. Lol! I like the razor idea!!!! Didn’t think of this! Hiking is amazing!!!! And I do it a lot! I also have practicing yoga for decades! It’s amazing!

Thank you for sharing these extremely helpful ideas, and in such a light and peaceful way. I started out with minimalism when I moved and I couldn't bring my furniture and all of my "stuff". I realized that it was the best thing that ever happened. Life in a non-cluttered, open space soothes me and allows me to truly rest when I am home. Although I live in a big city, I hope to move to the country where I will be able to enjoy beautiful, quiet nature around me, for free!

Planning your meals is a very smart thing to do. For me, I brown bag it to work each day. If there is something that I would like to buy from the cafe/vending machine I buy it but I write down what it is. Since Covid, I hardly go to Fast food Restaurants. Making Cleaning Products is also cool. I use Cleaning Vinegar and Baking Soda.

Hi, thank you, I love this video. Especially that you make your own shampoo and moisturizer and cleaning products. I never heard of castile soap (only in one of your previous video) so I went online to see if we have it in my country and we do. :)) I immediately ordered it. I have been using vinegar and baking soda for cleaning, and organic coconut oil and shea butter for moisterizing for a long time now. I also love organic sesame seed oil for my skin and hair. I really would like to know about your washing detergents as well, because they are really expensive and the containers produce a lot of waste. Thank you for all you do, you are truly making a difference in the world. Kriszta from Hungary.

By eating in - We can use the best available raw ingredients to cook, have a variety of ethnic raw ingredients thus providing a variety to our palette; the very reason of going out to eat. A consumptious culture promotes eating out , or to order in. The time taken to wait after ordering the food , to get ready and drive out to eat, wait in line if the restaurant is buzy and by the time food comes on table is a waste of a lot of time . There are days when we are in no mood to cook , those days one pot meals are a wonder, especially when one is using a pressure cook. We learn to cook, plan, save time and use this time to do so many other things , one of my fav is catching up on sleep ! LOL

Just purchased a package of laundry detergent that comes in thin dissolvable sheets much like the Mr. Clean magic eraser sheets, saving a large plastic jug and not having to lug it anywhere. Will test it this week on wash day. It's called Earthwash available online.😊

It’s no wonder you look so healthy! Agree with much of your advice though it takes time and a lot of young people don’t have the time and that’s how they get duped into spending more money than they need.

Erin Edwards comment asked for the specifics of her shampoo and conditioner recipes. Connie replied "No I don't have a video. They are very simple to make. Shampoo: 1/4 c water, 5 drops Castile soap, 1 tsp baking soda Conditioner 1:1 parts water, apple cider vinegar". Erin also asked about the metal container that the conditioner was in. Connie's answer: "The light weight metal is easier to travel with. Enjoy!"

HI Connie. I found your channel a couple of days ago and love it. After viewing a few videos though I looked back at your history and was so inspired by your recovery from your traumatic brain injury. You are an inspiration. What a brave person!!!! Content wise, let me agree, homemade products are best. I have been making my own deodorant for about 5 years and it is without a doubt the best I have ever used, My recipe includes shea butter and arrowroot in addition to coconut oil and baking powder. I am planning to try your body butter recipe this week.

Hi Paula, I enjoyed reading your comment. If you have time, I would greatly appreciate it if you would please share the amount of each ingredient you use in your deodorant use as well as how you store it. Thank you.

@@jnova3328 Hi! The recipe I use is 3T coconut oil, 3T baking soda, 2T shea butter, and 2T arrowroot power. The original recipe I found (somewhere, I do not remember where) used cornstarch instead of arrowroot powder. I found that cornstarch irritated my skin). So, you first need to melt the coconut oil shea butter and shea butter in the microwave or stove and then mix with the dry ingredients. Then, either just let them sit or put in the refrigerator over night. After the ingredients solidify, mix together again, put it into a container of choice and then it is ready to use. How does this work? Well both coconut oil and shea butter have antibacterial properties. Body odor results from the sweat on your skin meeting up with bacteria. So this deodorant suppresses that. No aluminum chlorhydrate required! Best deodorant I have ever used. I store in a plastic container. When traveling I have put into a cooler for safety, although I have never seen it 'melt'.
