Just learnt that the dialogue at the end is spoken by Vivi, but the implication is largely lost in translation, meaning he is the one whose memories where lost in the sky by the ending as his lifespan expired.
@TheDancerMacabre27 күн бұрын
In the Japanese version, (I'm told) that Vivi has a particular way of speaking with written verbal tics. So it's obvious that it's Vivi's monologue. Whenever streamers play this game for the first time, I DM a mod who has played this game and ask if it's okay to tell them (or if the mod can tell them directly) I get a little sad when they think it's Kuja or Zidane speaking and they ask at the end "So what happened to Vivi?!" And we have to break the news.
@Gavid6918 күн бұрын
@@TheDancerMacabre How common is it for people to miss that Vivi is the one that wrote the letter? When I was 12-13 years old I got it pretty much immediately, so this is kinda surprising to me

I really do like his Garland voice. It's a standard refined gravelly smart villian but he preformed it with the right amount of detachment. It was exactly how I see this conversation where Garland is so used to commanding what he considers mindless automatons that he doesn't dress up his talk to appeal to Zidane. The cosmic boredom of a 1000 years of overseeing a monumental task alone.

Really glad Conner played FF9. It's still in my top 10 video games of all time. Another thing is that I hope Connor plays Xenogears one day. Although he probably won't like Disk 2, but there's one thing I can say: it has the most ambitious story/plot that a JRPG can ever have. It is what I call an unfinished masterpiece. Although it's highly unlikely, but I pray it gets a remake (with the original story unchanged) one day.

@WorldsTallestLeprechaun25 күн бұрын
Damn, this hits you in the feels, for a lot of reasons. I grew up in the middle of nowhere with an SNES, and Final Fantasy 3 (TECHNICALLY Final Fantasy 6) was my shit, and it kinda sucks that I don’t think we’ll ever have games again that are able to PUNCH quite as hard when it comes to stuff like in FF6 when the “World of Ruin” happens. Not gonna spoil it because if you’ve played the game, you KNOW what I’m talking about, and what mean about how modern games have never pulled off a shake-up like that since then. If you’re confused, find a way to play FF6 and try it, you won’t regret it. Advice though about a mechanic that I didn’t understand as a kid. There comes a point where characters can start learning spells based on AP gained after battles, but the gag is that the AP is multiplied percentage-wise based on whatever you’re learning the spell from. So if there’s a “Cure ~ 8” then that means every 1 AP you get from winning a fight will bring that character 8% closer to learning Cure. (meaning you’d need 13 AP total to learn it)

Always nice to see Connor get deeper and deeper into the JRPG rabbit hole. Final Fantasy X is the obvious next game, but towards the end, I really started to think "I'd really like to see Tales of the Abyss." Don't know how feasible it would be, since it's stuck on PS2 and 3DS, but that would apply to seeing Connor play any Tales game, really.
@UmbreonMessiah22 күн бұрын
22:05 This was the moment that solidified FFIX as something special to me in terms of it's battle system. The idea that *Blind* could be useful in any way whatsoever - let alone that I could inflict it with Zidane thanks to that sword - was world-opening to me. My brother got stuck here because he didn't know, and when I told him he was blown away as well.

Just watched all these 2 hour recaps of Connors stream of ff8, ff7, and ff9. You can see Connor go from Not knowing how the ps1 turn based rpg systems work, to being pretty pro at min/max at the end of ff9. Didn't help that he started with the most confusing ff8 Junction system, took him half the game to start picking up how to junction at all. Then took an couple hours to understanding the materia system in ff7. Then pick up the ff9 job system immediately. Very nostalgic, and fun to watch Connor play through for the first time with voicing the characters and Mouse commenting like a little sister that played it all before.

So unfortunate that the editing quality is much worse compared to past FF videos. This is my favorite game. I understand that FFIX isn't that popular, but VOD is a lot more enjoyable to watch at this point.
@invertebrado27 күн бұрын
Really? What make you say that, I didn't noticed anything particularly bad about this video, and at the end Connor even says this is his favorite final fantasy surpassing 7 so no reason for it to be on purpose I think
@ОлежаТ_Т27 күн бұрын
@@invertebrado There are far fewer inserts with explanations from Connor, which is why the narrative relies heavily on editing VOD. And since a large story needs to be contained in a two-hour video, the dialogue ended up being roughly cut, which makes the story less coherent. And the cutting is really rough, especially the abrupt changes in volume and sound, making the experience unpleasant. In past FF videos, the storytelling was smoother and more coherent. And the audio editing was more attentive to volume and sound changes.
@invertebrado27 күн бұрын
@@ОлежаТ_Т the audio things I didn't really noticed, but now that you mentioned, the pacing for this video was all over the place. And it did take some of the emotional beats, the theme of death of this game was something that wasn't also nearly ruminated enough to make things hit as hard as they could. But also... I am not sure how you could preserve doing a video that is 10% of the original length on a game that needs time for things to set in. FF7 was easier to tell because it only really relies on telling the things that happen, this game really needs the time

Now that I think about it, I wonder what actually happened at the end there. I like to think that the Iifa tree at the end somehow save Zidane and Kuja, and that's how Zidane came back (like the roots at the end actually covered them from harm ways afterward). There's also another way of thinking that Kuja saved Zidane from that and actually died for real, but that would be kinda defeated the point of Zidane coming back to save him...
