Congratulations to you both on the well deserved success. It's so great to have you back and as a fellow hobbyist, KZbinr, and native Virginian I want to thank you for all your hard work. This hobby has literally saved my life from drug and alcohol addiction and I could not have made it without your videos. I was on fish forums in the beginning and almost gave up until I started watching your KZbin channel. Your channel was the first channel I ever subscribed to and is still the best channel in all of KZbin for fishkeeping. I hope you read this and understand that you both are not just talking about fish. You are actually changing people's lives and for that I can't thank you enough because you have helped save mine. Thanks for sharing and as always...Do what you do if it works for you.

Congratulations John to your channel's new milestone! You very much deserve that KZbin recognition play botton. As for the algae topic, as usual the infos you and Lisa shared about it are very useful...let me add also, as a last resort, to control the algae is to use UV light specially if the tank receives a lot of sunlight in a day. I use that in my pond way back then but when i learned that floating and sedentary aquatic plants can do the job and at the same time helps in ammoia elimination, I just made my UV lights as a back-up solution. Thanks again for that great video.

My plecos are pretty active, constantly working their way around the tank, but they do some pretty epic turds, so I’m not sure if there is a net gain on cleanliness. I have a dozen or so shrimp for fine grazing, and a few loach species for stirring up the substrate. I do weekly 50% water changes, treated with Seachem Prime and salts, plus a good gravel vac and wipe down (takes about an hour). I have my lights on for 12 hours or more per day, and so far algae is pretty minimal; water is always crystal clear; I feed twice per day; the tank is well stocked with no deaths so far. You can also use blue coloured dye to block out some light that algae needs, rather than a chemical treatment.

I have a few things I wanna say. 1. Freshwater algae is in all honesty I lot easier to control and manage that saltwater algae 2. I have several tanks and I love algae in my 75. It's a planted tank and I only clean the front panel for viewing (besides the algae helps hide my filters and wall). But after some math and a ton of time determining species plus a few smaller tests I have found that not only is my 75 more stable but can be stretched 4 months for water changes with no ill effects and 4 months 2 ish weeks before I can register ammonia (no fish were harmed in this testing). 3. For green water algae I always suggest a uv sterilizer and just turn it on as needed. 4. NEVER BUY A CLOWN PLECO FOR ALGAE CONTROL. 5.snails are slow and may not work. 6.algae from Costco tastes amazing but aquarium algae dosnt. 7. Otocincleus are the best algae cleaners ever. Female albino bristle nose plecos second. 8.Brown and redish algae are not related to specific water. From what I have observed weirdly enough it seems for me that my declorinator effects my algae a lot (no it dosnt remove algae or ammonia) 9. Apparently fish and wildlife don't like it when people transplant algae in thier tanks 10. Congrats on 100,000 subs. Finally PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME I have 2 saltwater tanks with algae out of control and have tried everything

Scraper and a lot of elbow grease! Make sure you get the proper scraper/pad depending on your tank (Acrylic or glass) As Lisa stated: "Black beard algae is evil!" For fry tanks i keep the lights on for 12 hours because i was told they needed more light, but it started a tiny algae bloom that doesn't bother me even slightly. Its never gotten worse because i time the lighting i think. I think it makes the tank look more....homey for the fish.

I have a 5 gallon Betta tank with brown diatom algae growing all over my rocky bottom and decoratives. @martisl96525 жыл бұрын
I think one of the reason why most of us get so freaked out about algae is because we re constantly being told that were having this "problem" because we re doing something wrong or being lazy. Im trying really hard to relax about that now.. Its hard, tho. :/

LiliS oh trust me I completely understand where you’re coming from, haha my favorite thing to do when someone looks at one of my tanks that’s filled with algae and asks why it’s so dirty I bring them over lift up the lids and tell them to take a look and when they see how clear my water is they pretty much get blown away.. algae is good, dirty tank water is bad.

I just started another tank and it's my first one with capped soil substrate. It's just a 10 gallon betta tank with an awesome light and man, the algae has gone nuts! Especially the hair algae. Unfortunately, giving it time to settle is the best thing I can do. In the meantime, lowered lighting time, nerites, water changes and a hand full of shrimp are helping out.

I always leave some. Pull some... and it depends on the tank... my fiddler crab gets algae on the glass but nowhere else (well it does but they mow it down, even blackbeard)... my 20 gallon display tank gets hair algae in some pockets and some on the glass, but my sparkling gourami nibble on it and so do the snails so I usually just have to scrape glass and pull a handful a week... my 10 gallon quarantine tank has a philodendron growing out the top and water lettuce in it with some dwarf sag. Chain sword and val. And some crypts... basically overplanted and understocked with just guppies to keep the sponge cycled... no algae at all even being next to a window. And my summer tub had lots of algae, but only in the section I keep open for viewing the heavily planted side has very little. I actually "clean" the algae off the roots of the floating plants by rotating the plants at the front of the open section to the back and moving the next row forward each week. Every time I move a hyacinth or water lettuce forward no algae on those roots. So either the shade and nutrient competition is getting it or the medaka are

Had a bad cyanobacteria problem with good water and high maintainance (vacuuming the sand/gravel daily due to the bacteria covering it all up over night) and 50% water changes once a week on a 75g planted aquarium. My guess was excess plant fertilizer that wasn't being utilized by the plants due to a lack of co2. Bought a co 2 system 2 weeks ago, didn't fertilize anymore. The plants started to bubble, a lovely sight, and the cyanobacteria declined over the last few days. An algae problem isnt fixed in a day. It takes time to get rid of it if you can figure out what caused it, sometimes just doing standard maintainance and waiting a few weeks works wonders too...

When I was little, I had a small 10 gallon tank. Whenever there was a lot algae on the glass, my mom would buy some baby algae eating fish to take care of it. She didn't really care about them, and let them die when they were out of algae to eat. She just cared that I was happy with the fish I had in there. I complained when algae got all over the glass. When I was little, I can't say I cared to much about those algae eating fish either. Looking back now, I feel bad for those fish.
