My home looked like this when my kids were under 5 - then we got into the habit of doing a 15 minute reset before the bedtime routine started. I made it into a game as to who could pick the most up and put it away. The kids loved it. They've all grown up now and moved away but we all still reset the house where we live for 15 minutes before downtime in the evening. It's only 15 minutes and it really makes a difference!
@lfuentes4098 Жыл бұрын
It helps to start them young. My kids started earlier to help pick up their toys and put them away in the toy chest. They didn’t have more than would fit in the container when they were small. Except for large toys of course. This helped tremendously. Having less toys was a saving grace because it meant less to pick up and put away. As for laundry having laundry hampers in rooms and the bathroom so that everyone can easily throw their dirties in the basket is key. And trash bins too! At least this way the kids learn to put trash in the bin and not on the floor. I know this mama is battling depression and it’s probably difficult for her to find the motivation to even teach the kids these things. But I hope she finds the inspiration, now that Barbie has blessed her and her family with her help. Hopefully, she can find the strength to help everyone in the household and lead by example to get everyone on board.

That's a truly smart trick, friend! My mom made the exactly same thing with us, teaching me and my two older brothers to keep our daily chores - do our beds immediately after waking up, collecting our shoes and toys, fold and putting our clothes organized, and cleaning the disthes right after eating... There's habits we all carry after 40 years in our own homes. My mom and dad was hard workers and had no time to do all the cleaning by themselves. The best thing we can do to our kids is teaching them to be independent and doing their own chores as a habit. Teaching them to be responsible by their own cleaning we garantee them not just to be good adults, but citizens that thinks about the collectivity wellfare too.

Life was so much simpler when I grew up, we didn't have a ton of toys, we had five outfits for school, and two pair of shoes. We lived in a tiny house that didn't hold a lot of extras, and we didn't know we were poor because we had what we needed.

I’ve heard it referred to as “Middle class abundance.” It’s the availability of cheap, “fast fashion”, all crap made in China - with the exploitation of the workers there, and around the world. The advertising never stops, either. Corporations pay big bucks to manipulate people into buying more and more. It’s a huge vicious cycle. I have no idea what the answer is to this modern day problem.
@genwhite1175 Жыл бұрын
@@elizabethpayne53 All this "fast fashion" and the people who just buy, buy, buy are contributing to one of the biggest polluters of our planet - the cast-off textiles/clothes. It's a massive problem, yet how often do we hear about it? It's part of the cancer of materialism/consumerism. I don't know if education and more of a lean towards more important things than just STUFF would help but I'm not overly optimistic at this stage. Too many big factories making too much money out of it. SMH.
@evelynsaungikar3553 Жыл бұрын
@@elizabethpayne53first step is becoming aware, then consciously resist. For clothes, pack as though for a two week trip. That’s all you need, get rid of the excess. Start making your children donate/throw away toys before every Christmas/birthday start them young and they will continue to do this into adulthood. My parents did this with us as kids and now every season I sort through my things and have a large clear out because it's normal for me. I don't even really get anything for Christmas as an adult but I do look forward to clearing the junk of the year every year.
@lorettacarroll6015 Жыл бұрын
Growing up poor, we only got a couple of new toys at Christmas time. None for our birthdays. Mom and dad grew up without getting toys at all. It just wasn't something we did. We had more fun taking old sheets and building forts with them and old chairs.

We go thru at least once a year. Someone, somewhere needs it and we aren't using it. My fav trick is turning all our hangars around on Jan 1st. The clothes that were not worn during that year go to someone who can use them more than us. It's a win/win. We don't have stuffed closets, and someone else was helped. Love your fav trick too. Great idea!
@bloodliriel Жыл бұрын
I do this with my kids. We bring them to a donation box near our home, and what is still good we sell. The money is being collected and then, at a useful point far away from birthday or Christmas, they get to go to a toy store with me, and with a bit of counsel pick something new with this money. I will also straight up ask them if they still play with xy, and they now have a good feeling for it. I try to not pressure them though, it is their stuff after all. We generally don't have as many toys as the average US family and pick stuff that is very open, so they can use it for years. It has proven to be a good method for us. Both kids have ADHD and need a calm environment as well as clear guidelines. Not strict, but clear. ❤

I have little rubbish bins in each room in the toilet and lounge etc. Then once a day I go around with the emptiest one and tip the bits and pieces from each bin into it. Then that goes into the kitchen bin (because that is the one that MUST have a liner bag due to the food waste. Then on a daily basis I throw the kitchen bag away. It makes it soooo much easier to keep your house clean and takes only 10-minutes a day including taking the kitchen bag out. Viola! And my bins are really pretty too, so they complement the decor. ;)
