@@realpristineA recruiter just told me they sit at the airport for four hours but get paid for five if they don’t get called. I know they do 24 hour reserve, which sounds a wee bit difficult, but I also know they can select preferences on being called first/not being called last/etc so that seems decent at least. Besides, thousands of FA have worked for them and continue to work for them so it can’t be worse than regional. The pay is way better, the rig system isn’t bad, one day the contract will be set and that’ll include even more money for FA, plus boarding - I hope, the destinations are much more appealing than regional. I’m not bashing regional. I think regional is great: you have smaller planes aka less people to annoy you, there’s opportunities to do turns and be home almost every night, seems like it’s easier to gain seniority and seniority is the most important part of the job so this is one hell of a great thing regional has going on over mainlines, training in only four-ish weeks instead of six. If I had a two-person household (to split bills) I would run to regional so I can be home more often at the end of the work day. If I had less bills, I’d run to regional, too. I have a (very low, thank you baby jesus that I bought a few years ago) mortgage to pay for the next 25 years so mainline it is. Sorry for the novel, I’ve just been researching for three months straight trying to figure out if the job is for me and if it is, which airline I want to pursue. Just trying to spread what I’ve learned in case others are doing their own research.

That is one of the best things I've heard in years so when are they going to start paying trainees compensating them for training? So Delta discontinued block the block that's awesome! Well we're working on it too at American cuz it's really not fair if you work you need to be compensated if you're in training for 6 to 8 weeks you definitely need to be compensated problem is they're taking advantage of people because they want the job so bad so that should not be on you people have rights and everyone has a right to be compensated for that kind of training cuz everyone is working so hard so hard and they shouldn't have to go through complete agonizing torture so I think we're going to see changes within the next year good luck guys and girls

Perks of Standby travel in 2022 post-pandemic(?) 1- Shortages of pilots, flight attendants, ground personnel, etc. causing delays or cancellations. 2- Airlines have not fully returned their fleet into service; reducing flight choices. 3- Planes are thus flying near 100% severely reducing your chances of flying standby. 4- Airlines have reduced non-stop flights pushing passengers into multiple hub segments thus increasing your chances of being bumped mid-travel. I worked for a semi-private airline; the pay was minimum wage with a small COVID premium, the draw was being able to fly standby on a number of popular airlines. However, I found that even using the employee insider travel website, almost any flight I chose had a very low to no probability of snagging a seat (see above reasons). I resigned.

This lifestyle of irregular schedules, chronic short staffing under absolutely relentless and unforgiving situations of being overworked and exhausted takes a mental, physical, and spiritual toll. But I learned how to make 44 Sleeping Car berths in a single hour under the guidance of an original Black Pullman Porter who hired on in 1949.
