I've grown to dislike the term "mandate" after hearing it ad nauseum this past month. That being said, it _is_ a mandate. A slim but monumental one that displays an increasingly red trend over the past 8 years where states like Ohio and Florida are no longer swing states and with PA potentially following suit. The country shifted ~7 points to the right, making an R+3 electorate. He won the popular vote, EC, and dragged both Houses by his coattails. He improved with nearly every demographic; the best performing GOP candidate with blacks in 48 years, young voters in 20, and Hispanics in the history of polling. It was the most diverse coalition in modern election history. He flipped counties that voted overwhelmingly for H. Clinton and tinted California just a bit redder. One can say that other Republicans have done better with the popular vote, particularly Reagan, however this is rather disingenuous: the country is not the same demographically as it was 20 years ago or 40 years ago. Trump won in a much much more difficult electorate for a Republican. Right now there is a sort of rewiring/realignment going on within both parties and we will have to see how that plays out in the future. Very interesting from an election nerd standpoint. I would also like to point out that Bill Clinton won a so-called mandate with a mere 43% of the popular vote.
@profpurge15 күн бұрын
So....when Joe Biden won in 2020 by flipping Arizona and Georgia, winning by seven million votes, getting over 50 percent of the total vote, expanding the House and flipping the Senate, was that a superior mandate? Did it signal a generational realignment? When the Republican "Red Wave" largely evaporated in 2018, with Democrats gaining Senate seats, what did that represent? And I remember Bill Clinton's tenure, and Republicans constantly brought up that he only won a plurality, saying over and over again that not winning 50 percent plus meant no mandate (of course, they will NOT recall ever saying that now that Trump is under 50 percent).

I don't really pay attention to a lot of entertainment "journalism" and youtube pundits because I had my tipping point of finding it all tiring and pointless. But that said, if comics were generally undeniably great (not just "good." Has to be in that next level), in more hands, and everyone was talking about that killer, mind-blowing story, I'm certain the last thing on anyone's mind are the creator's politics. To use wrestling terms, kayfabe has to be restored. I know it's not happening with social media, but sometimes I think I really don't want to know about a creator's private and personal life. All that matter is if they're delivering great work.

Probably open conservatives will never at the big publishers. The rot is too deep at those places and they wouldn't allow someone that doesn't match their ideology at those places. This isn't unique in comics either. Happens also with novel writing for the big trad pubs. What is going to happen is the need for conservatives to do their own things. Iconic is a good example of conservative leaning comic company based on the stuff they put out. There are also some good ones for novels that have sort of popped up and starting their own things. The problem is that we don't have people on the conservative side that pushes content from conservative creators. It's a problem that some authors have talked about. There's a real need for that promotion in the sphere to help grow creators to allow for that parallel economy.

I just want an equal amount of affirmation of conservative values and beliefs in mainstream media that liberalism gets. Its not enough that we need more conservative representation. We need them to have a moral case and not be treated as an obstacle that needs to be overcome. Whenever I see conservatives in media, their beliefs are treated like some sort of addiction that needs to be undone and discarded. Why CAN'T we have more Republican characters who are not only unafraid to vocally support the candidates and/or parties that they want, but should be treated as normal. 80 million people voted Trump in 2020, and Hollywood and the entertainment industry at large makes nothing for them, despite the potential billions of dollars that could be made.

Actually, no, 81 million people voted for Joe Biden in 2020, with Trump getting 74 million votes, and then 77 million this year to Kamala Harris' 74 million; but be that as it may, what would conservatives consider to be affirming entertainment from Hollywood? Would it simply be more examples of openly Christian heroes? More stories where corporate executives or wealthy entrepreneurs were shown in a positive light? Less non-traditional casting? Or a denunciation of LGBT people, or exposing global warming as a "hoax", or some other sort of right-wing shibboleth? What would you want to see done differently?

Whenever a creator is more known for their personal politics/positioning over their ability to tell great stories the overall goal isnt accomplished. Today, many readers of comics search for identity purposes. I've never put a book back based on the politics of the creator. Some creators are good some are bad. I definitely blame the Twitter controversy they made Marvel to get rid of Danny Rand and Frank Castle. Yeah, a lot of people(including in the comment section) want to blame Jason Aaron for the punisher comic. Ignoring The Controversy of Police using the Punisher Symbol. Ignoring before that, Matthew Rosenberg the Punisher writer, before Jason Aaron, did tackle on Police and Punisher symbol in the comic. Sadly it didn’t stop twitter. Really Interesting. 5:26 Oh god. Homeless Captain America. Jeez. I am positive image already welcome conservative writers. Image comic still published Warren Ellis’ work after the allegations. Desolation Jones. 8:37 Why Five Years? 9:11 Let’s get Bill Willingham to write Bernard again. The guy who was a cop who used to work with Frank Castle. But due to the consequences working with Frank, Edward loss his family and he swears vengeance on Frank Castle. Chuck Dixion should do a story about Payback. How does he a former cop feel about the Police using The Punisher symbol? Payback wears a Punisher Symbol with a *No Sign on it.* Why cops not wearing a no sign? See Professor Perchington, how come you comic experts never mention characters like Payback? Like Junzo Muto. Well did your are basic when it come to characters. Have you send the new Lord of the Rings movie? I saw it. I didn’t read the books. And I know the movie wasn’t faithful to the book. *War of the Rohirrim still a good movie. Million times better than Rings of Power* The character Hera is not a Girlboss and she not a Mary sue. She way better written than Galadriel from Rings of Power. They literally Day(Hera) and Night(Galadriel). Complete opposite. Maybe you should expand the topic to the Big Six instead. Here's why: The Big 2 are unlikely to hire any conservative writers other than Millar anytime soon. Maybe a conservative artist if they get desperate. Dark Horse and Image are located in Portland OR, so that's a dead issue. And isn't Heather Antos still at IDW? See what I mean? But at Dynamite, I don't think Nick Barrucci cares politically who creates the books as long as the writing and art is good, and the female leads look sexy. For example, I've been following the last two runs of Barbarella, and they were written by libertarian sci-fi author Sarah Hoyt and longtime center-right comics writer Blake Northcott, and nobody's raised a peep. Maybe because SJWs don't pay much attention to Dynamite when CG isn't involved (e.g. the Cecil flap), but still, it definitely makes Dynamite the most likely company to hire a right-winger without backlash.

That train has left the station long ago. So there is nobody pushing the culture warriors out and they will not let anyone in that is not of their tribe. PS: Mark Millar writing something at Marvel is a marketing stunt similar to Lee doing Batman. It’s sadly not a sign of actual change, just a new version of „variant covers“ in the form of variant guests from the past. PPS: It may be mean, but I see no signs for positive change. I learned my lesson from years ago, when Perch promised change, that change alone is meaningless as it can be change to even worse. Without any signs for actually positive change, it’s just more of the last ten years with a fresh paint job.
