Be sure to give away all the joy you cultivate at the end for others' benefit. Like putting it all into a giant free bin.

So if one just stays with the object the joy arises on its own w/o any coaxing from the practitioner? Also the joy that arises can be quite strong culminating to the 1st jhana right?

I don't think you've examined what joy is.

Joy is just an intermediary step in meditation practice, not the end. With time, one reaches equanimity, which is the state of upekkha, that is what one needs to reach. Upekkha is part of enlightenment characteristics.

@@AdamFiregate That's not the point of meditation at all. States of being come and go. The point of meditation is insight and understanding.

Your comment is meaningless without a rebuttal of the ideas presented in the video, if you think she got it wrong.

@@wthomas5697 I agree, it is not the final point, just an intermediate step. Joy and upekkha are both steps. I meant that in fourth jhana joy vanishes and what is left is only upekkha, which is a characteristic of the 7 features. Vipassana produces insight, when done correctly, so I can agree with that as well. My comment was in no way complete, just parts of what I can add quickly in a short comment.
