The music category goes to Streets of Rage. No contest. Legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro's classic house beats started a revolution in game music. Having previously done music for classic RPGS like Y's, he was ready to do something new. He squeezed some of the best out of that Yamaha sound chip like few could. He also composed SNES music like Actraiser and Super Adventure Island which the latter had those awesome house and break beats like SOR. Having to wait 2 years later to play Guy at home (sacrificing Cody in the process) and still not have 2 player mode is ridiculous. You should've pulled out Final Fight CD to really pour some lemon juice over that salted wound. Great vid, guys.

Final fight was better graphically, and the characters are easily the most well known out of the two game franchises. Final fight had smooth game play, and solid mechanics no doubt. But here's where things get better for Streets of rage. Final fight had the standard set up. Your basic attacks, your grab&knee, overhead toss, and special attack for surrounding enemies. Streets of rage on the other hand, had your basic attacks, your grab&knee, 2 types of throws per character depending on weather you grabbed them from the front or back, the ability to attack while being held by other enemies, and even toss them before they were able to toss you! You were even able to toss your partner into an airborne attack that could clear a crowd of enemies pretty well! THEN you had your special attack/back up. SOR may not have looked better, but it sure as hell offered a better game play experience as FF felt a lot more repetitive with less fighting mechanics. As for the soundtracks, Final fight has about four songs that are very memorable to me. And they're very good tracks! But Streets of rage kills it with they're dance/jazzy tunes. And I absolutely LOVE the bar stage track. Even my mother who hates video games, would stop in whenever she heard that particular tune, and also the ending track. And we don't even wanna get into SOR2 and just how badass THAT game was...! Just thinking about it makes me wanna play it...!

@@mrlaidback83 They may be some of your favourite games ever but the Mario games are just superior overall. Look at any Top 100 Games of All Time list and you'll find plenty of Mario platformers on there, some even right near the very top, and you'll see basically no Sonic games unless you're very lucky. And that's for good reason. While all the Sonic games are fun, and there's even some technically impress stuff going on at times, they're not even in the same league as something like Super Mario World in terms of just pure execution and gameplay. But, hey, almost no other platformers are either, so that's not a major knock on the Sonic games. Super Mario World can very reasonably be argued as being the greatest platformer ever made, and I think the vast majority of people who actually know what they're talking about will agree. With that being said while I prefer the graphics, music, and presentation of the arcade version of Final Fight, Streets of Rage is a better game because of how well done the environmental hazards are. In Streets of Rage, you can strategically use the crushers and conveyer belts against your enemies, in Final Fight, there’s fire that comes out of the ground and hurts everything randomly. Both are great games. I wish that more modern beat Em ups were made in this style.

You guy's are forgetting Final Fight was released came out for a bunch of machines back then. It hit the Snes twice (Final Fight Cody and Final Fight Guy), Sega CD, Capcom Console (JP), and the Sharp X68000 (JP). Streets of Rage hit the Genesis and was also on the Sega CD included with the add-on at launch. It was actually the best version as the CD music was great! Final Fight while a good game in its own right pales in comparison to any Streets of Rage entry. Perhaps the biggest reason is the amazing crowd control featured in all the Streets of Rage games. Further, the AI in Final Fight is non-existent. The enemy characters simply bunch together and come at your character all at once. SOR 1+2+3+4 feature characters that team up on you and use various strategies to beat you. Further, in Final Fight you only have 3 to 4 enemies on screen at once. SOR features loads of enemies on screen at once. Perhaps the next biggest reason any SOR beats and Final Fight is the move set. Each character feels unique and plays entirely different. Cody and Guy are so similar that Capcom made two versions of the original game...in single player only on the Snes. Lastly, the music in SOR is hands down the best music in any 16-bit game ever released on cart. The only other game that comes close is Thunder Force IV in terms of sheer quality. Streets of Rage wins this by a wide, wide, wide margin. Addendum- What's this graphics being better in Final Fight?! I'd like to introduce my personal friend his name is parallax scrolling and he doesn't show up in the Snes version of Final Fight....but man is he all over Streets of Rage. Having more varied levels and multiple layers of parallax scrolling easily gives SOR the edge. Not to mention the rain and crashing water of the beach level looked insane in 1991.

I’m from the future. I hope you jumped on that copy of Batman and Robin for $50. That’s a steal in the future

Prefer Streets of Rage, too. It's so much better.

They're both good games. Final Fight is more nostalgic because of Guy and Cody. While Streets of Rage was a little more fun. It's a tie in my book, I'll be happy to play either. However, the best console beat-em-up for the Genesis is Battletoads/Double Dragon. While Rival Turf is my favorite for SNES. The greatest beat-em-up in history will always be the arcade Turtles in Time, followed closely by X-Men.

Nice! I still think you guy's should do SoR 2 vs Super Double Dragon it's the best DD game followed by DD 2, it's also one of the best coop beatem ups on the SNES too.

11:09 I think that's one instance where the SNES Final Fight music is better than the Final Fight Arcade music. What do other people think?
@ricosimon1057 Жыл бұрын
No, i don’t think it’s better than arcade, because i have one as a part of arcade stadium.
@ConsoleWars11 жыл бұрын
we would but it really takes a long time to write the script, film, do voiceovers, and edit. we were thinking of doing a video commentary to explain what goes into each video.

I never noticed before, but it sounds like the FF arcade uses some sort of Yamaha sound chip similar to that of the Genesis.
@Maru9610 жыл бұрын
yep, probably a ym2151, which is a bit better than the genesis sound chip.

Yeh, that'll be an episode soon

it does feel pretty good to hit people in that game. tight sound effects. if it was a little more like the arcade it would've won.

I can't decide if I prefer Streets of Rage 1 and 2 on the Genesis or Final Fight CD, that's the real debate. I would say those are the greatest beat em ups of all time, along with Guardian Heroes.

A beat'em up without 2-players, is not a beat'em up in my book, it's an action adventure game. SOR wins on that alone imo.

In fact... Streets of rage even has a REMAKE. if you love streets of rage, You should consider downloading and playing Streets of rage remake V5. V5 is the final release by Bombergames, and they worked HARD on it.

Im usually a final fight guy (no pun intended) except for the snes port of pt1. It cuts out stages, characters, and the 2-player option. Those are all gamebreakers for me, so i agree with guys on this one streets of rage hands down

You gotta feel bad for Greg: his game is worth like 8.5 out of 10, but still, he had no chance. I do prefer SoR a bit, but the Final Fight remaster on PS Store is reallllly good too. Both original and remixed soundtracks, continues right where you died AND online multiplayer. Lots of fun. It even comes bundled in with Magic Sword (fromCapcom too), which I thought I would hate, but in the end, I had a good time going through it twice (you can either "restore peace" or take the evil throne for different endings).

Due to hardware limitations the SNES version could only display two or three enemies on-screen, in contrast to the CPS arcade version, which could display up to nine or ten enemies on-screen; to make up for this difference, the SNES version features more stopping points than the arcade version and the enemy placement is vastly different.

Streetso had better instrumentation for the type of music the game has and thats dance music and the electro and good drumset works perfectly for that soundtrack. Final Fight got the horns plain wrong for it's tunes in fact the original had electro instruments like Streeso did better for the tunes of music in the game. Of course I enjoyed both games better on their arcade hardware. I've played a Streetso cab at my swimming baths back in the day and playing it with an 8 way arcade joystick was awesome and better than the Megadrive home pad.
