Oh man...he stepped in it now. Streets of Rage was excellent and easily bests the first Final Fight (even in graphics). However, Streets of Rage 2 is still the gold standard today. Even with Streets of Rage 4 out the second one destroys all in its path. Everything in Streets of Rage 2 is pure genius and pushes past the first game in every conceivable way. No version of any beat em' up comes close. The crowd control is flawless and the music is absolutely sick. The graphics truly showed the Sega Genesis had the chops to bring the pain to the Snes in a big way. It displays in a higher resolution, far more detailed sprites, no slowdown, tons of enemies on screen it's not even up for debate. What's up with the Final Fight series not having parallax scrolling? ;) Yes...it was worth slowing down the text.

It was made by some Brazilian guys and it has all 3 Genesis games re-done. You can play as every version of the main characters...it is the definitive version. Maybe it was called Streets of Rage Forever. Sega made them pull it down but you can still get it if you look.

Nothing beats Sega, Streets of Rage 2 and Yuzo Koshiro. Streets of rage 2 is to this day consired one of the greatest games of all time. Know one can't disagree about that. Not even the most delusional Nintendo fan... This should acually been a clean sweep! Presentation is also about giving the player feelings. And in Streets of Rage 2 one is swept in the darkness and decays of the city. This was also at a time when people feared it the most. The Turtles movies and many action movies had that premise in hollywood. Streets of Rage 2 only made it so much better...From the raging streetpunks, the fat truckers, the menacing big fat boxer on the boat, The Jacked up Ultimate Warrior wrestler who owns the underground world! But there was hope! You not only have your typical protagonist! You had muscles! For once you had a character in Max that could even provoke fear on the streets! Not to bash Skate or Blaze! But come on! A 6´'5 285 pound wrestler in your corner! A beast! And watching his back A Gary Daniels like Axle with a solid 6'1 and a trimmed 200 pounds! They were a great tagteam! Wrestling and Karate! The action and the environment is the presentation and in Streets of rage 2 this was pure magic! Speaking of magic. Next episode? Sega, Yusho Koshiro and Shinobi? I have to disagree with the presentation score. What it doesn't account for are how many enemies and stages exude their own personality/atmosphere. Everybody remembers the brawl in the rainy back-alley with Barbon, Jet flying in across the screen with the music suddenly stopping and coming back on with the boss theme, or Shiva being told to go kick your ass. Simply put, Final Fight 2 was just another entry. Streets of Rage 2 is a lifelong memory.

Gotta admit it. I was a SNES fanboy but my cousin and I rented a Genesis a few times to play Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage 2. SOR2 was legendary. Better than any of the dozens of beat em ups we ever played on SNES.

Was playing Streets of Rage 2 again on the Genesis mini I bought recently. Back when the 16-bit era ended, I'd say it was easily my favorite Genesis game but had been longtime since I went through it. Still holds up amazingly well.

SoR has good detail, colors that pop, and yet looks dirty and gritty when it calls for it. The sprites are smaller, but that's an advantage as big sprites just take away from the scenery. It just looks better and less cartoony. The music is not even comparable. Do I need to explain? SoR 2 is one of the best video games in the soundtrack department ever. Comparing the fighting between these games is like comparing Street Fighter to Virtua Fighter. The sheer amount of ways you can attack an enemy in SoR is astounding. Two ways to throw an enemy from behind, two combos and also a throw from grabbing them from the front, standard combo with a finisher move that can be accessed any time by holding them releasing the attack button, to jump attack moves, one that lets you lead into a combo, three special moves, one that doesn't drain health, various weapons that each character uses differently, and the ability to land on your feet when thrown. SoR is light years beyond any FF game.

@@TBONE_2004 That may be true, but also, has nothing to do with making random comparisons; an arcade dedicated machine for a game is way more powerful, and the way the game is meant to be played originally, than a conversion and toned down versions to play at home in a 16-bit console. It's no comparison possible there. If you want to compare two games, at least make a comparison of ports, for different consoles, or maybe 2 arcade games, it's not even fair otherwise.

Great timing as I just rewatched the first comparison a couple of days ago. I can't say the outcome is shocking. The next battle should be interesting. I'm not too familiar with Final Fight 3 yet, as I've only gotten to sample it briefly. As far as Streets of Rage 3, it has a few unfortunate issues, most of which resulted from it being modified from the original Japanese version, which is quite good. Too bad Bare Knuckle 3 can't fight the next console war. Great video as usual.

Gotta admit the voice-overs in SOR2 are pretty mediocre, I wasn't able to hear that Axel was saying "Grand Uppahh". Also, Greg's face @ 8:13 is priceless, freaking hilarious. With the SOR2 moveset, it's fantastic that theirs 3 types of jump attacks, and 3 different grab moves in addition to vaulting, knee smashes and lastly holding UP+C to avoid throws, such a massive moveset on a console with only 3 buttons, amazing. But I also love how Streets of Rage 2 (alongside other games) display the Genesis's distinct advantages over the Super Nintendo, and it's sad because they're shouldn't be any! The Snes is TWO YEARS NEWER over the Gen, yet can't have as many sprites on screen at once, has inferior animation/parallax scrolling maximums and the sound hardware isn't great for bass or action games. Yet everyone sings the Snes's praises to high heaven...

Great episode. Knew SoR2 would win. So many people consider that one of the greatest fighting games. As for the next one, I'm not sure FF3 could win. While SoR3 was disappointing, it has improved gameplay, unlockable characters, multiple endings, cutscenes, being even faster and more. Heck, that version of the game inspired the core gameplay of SoR Remake. FF3 seems to be trying to be like SoR2.

Console Wars SOR4 was supposed to happen back in the days of the Sega Saturn, but Eidos, the company tasked with development, had a disagreement with Sega in terms of console exclusivity. Eidos would later release the game on their own as what we now call Fighting Force.

Console Wars A lot of people have been talking about putting Gun Star Heroes with something, I think a very interesting match up would be Gun Star Heroes vs a very unique game called Wild Guns! The format on both of them is somewhat different, but the idea is the same, running, gunning, weird but cool bosses and worlds. Similar to comparing the Mario and Sonic games, those too are also very different but have the same idea. Also heck both of those awesome run and gun games both also have the word gun in there title! While Gun Star might be more popular Wild Guns has got some solid fans as well. Would be an interesting episode!

***** Except for the frustrating secret levels in SMW. Plus when you lock Sonic 2 & 3 with Sonic & Knuckles in the cartridge, the replay value is very high & it definitely rivals SMW.

SOR 2 was definitely the best 16 bit beat em up. A masterpiece with an amazing soundtrack that sounds like it's CD quality. Final fight suffers from the lack of CPU power that the SNES had. It could only put a very few amount of characters on screen and still suffered from massive slowdown. The Genesis' CPU was more than twice as fast as the SNES, so they could display more enemies which makes it more challenging.

SoR2 is the clear winner. Sharp and detailed graphics. Smooth animations. Awesome soundtrack. Crisp sound effects. Back in those days it was all the rage and varely anyone even knew Final Fight 2 existed.

one thing you clearly overlooked in Streets of Rage 2's team up attacks. Example, 1 player grabs the other from behind and the player being held can kick the enemies with their full body length as their reach. Als certain character's throws can turn their team mates into airborn projectiles that do not take any damage from being thrown. Final Fight 2 may have resolved the greatest flaw of the original, but so did Streets of Rage 2. Streets 2 added better character designs, more and varied enemy types but also added so many subtle touches that the entire game feels 100% better in every way. In regards to the special attacks, Streets of Rage 1 feels more like a Golden Axe clone (great games by the way) than it does like Final Fight. Streets of Rage 2's special not only feel more like Final Fight, but they don't stop with just 1. Standing special (hit A) lunging special (forward and A) and dash specials (> B). Being able to team up as I mentioned earlier adds an element of cooperation only found in 1 other beatem up... The Simpsons arcade game. While admittedly not as good as the team up as that game it is still a nice touch and shows that The Streets of Rage are not content to merely follow in the footsteps of its predecesor, but strives to do things that neither the previous game nor its competition strived to do.

+FirePrinceZuko 77 Tell that to anyone that played Street Fighter 2010 the final fight on the NES. To be fair you don't many people talking about the nes game Bionic Commando either. If by Capcoms standard of quality you means its arcade games and its Megaman games then you are very correct. Not much else stands up under scrutiny.

I'm not saying that all of Capcoms games are bad. I know there are a lot of great games in their library but they have made some real stinkers too. Ever play the Resident evil spin offs that play more like time crisis or other arcade style shooters? There is a good reason no one talks about them.Arguably the greatest sin of Capcom's is that much of their lineup suffers from sequelitis. Lets face it, Capcom was EA before EA was. Why did the Megaman series seem to get worse with each sequel? Because they didn't stop between sequels to work on something else so that when they went back to work on the series they had fresh ideas and the gameplay did not feel rehashed, remixed or recycled. No one wants to see you release the same game year after year when a roster update would be sufficient. Now lets look at the Resident Evil series. The game engine was used to make Dino Crisis (aka RE with dinosaurs) eventually Onimusha and Devil May Cry. I think most will agree that Devil May Cry 2 sucked. Hell the RE series even inspired similar games such as Parasite Eve and Fear Effect. By the way, Dead Rising was fun but I wouldn't call it a great game. It was a good game held back by its own interface. I've never even heard of Haunting Ground so it can't be that good or people would be talking about it. I can actually say that I've heard of the Clock Tower games but I don't know anyone that has played them. So I will revise my previous statement. Capcom has made a plenty great games, a lot of good games, some mediocre games and some that are better off never being mentioned again.

If you don't like streets of rage 3 play the japanese version, Bare Knuckle 3, it even have the same difficulty level of Streets of Rage 2, the same colors for the characters, a much better story than the american version, sega changing so much stuff in the american version of Sor3 have ruined their best beat em up, since BK3 is a game that's worthy of being a follow up to Streets of Rage 2

I didn't even see this being a close battle! And once again the raging streets deliver the deadly burning uppercut from hell!!!!! Final Fight 2 was a pretty decent game, many miles better than the first one, but its stale in comparison too Streets Of Rage 2! The first two were easy victories for Sega, but I think the 3rd battle will be close!

The SoR1 vs. FF1 was a close call indeed, but this one is a massacre. Final Fight 2 is a great game, but Streets of Rage 2 is a masterpiece. One of the best beat'em ups ever.
