I like the first Final Fight, I used to spend a lot of time playing it on the arcade. When Streets of Rage came out, it seemed like a poor man's beat em up.... That until you played it. It's a great game, with great gameplay and a fantastic soundtrack. The soundtrack alone won many fans for the series. Final Fight vs. SoR is a tough fight, both are great in their own way. But when SoR2 came out, the battle was settled. It's not only great, it is a true masterpiece.

Round 1 should be a draw. The Final Fight characters did have their own unique abilities as well. Haggar swung the considerably faster, Cody could melee with the knife unlike the other two and Guy could wall-jump off the sides of the screen and taller objects. (Also I thought the katana did more damage for Guy, but I can't find that info anywhere.) And as the narrator says himself, there would be no Streets of Rage without Final Fight, so is one-up-manship really something that even applies here?

@Retro Storm There is better, it just depends on what you are talking about. From a technical standpoint SOR is a lot better due to it being made on a home console and having more content. From an entertainment standpoint there is truly no better game because everyone enjoys diffirent things. Final fight is good, I am just trying to say that while SOR may have ripped off some aspects, it and it's sequels have added a lot to the FF formula. And now with SOR 4 even more is going to be added. Oh and don't say that everything after FF is a rip-off, there are a lot of great new and innovative beat em ups.

Double Dragon was awesome. Bimmy and Jimmy Lee. If you dont get that then you're not a DD fan, but Final Fight does hold the Legacy. Those characters show up in almost EVERY Capcom game.

Between the two games, I love Streets of Rage better. The combat and different moves you could pull on enemies, and every enemy was different. The animation isn't stiff like Final Fight is, and a kickass soundtrack along with it. SOR is my favorite beat'em up game.

I like them both. While I agree that 'Streets Of Rage' improved upon 'Final Fight' with it's gameplay, and sequels, I'll ALWAYS love the arcade version of 'Final Fight'. That game pretty much set the standard for the genre. 'Streets Of Rage' wouldn't exist without it, and it's characters continue to live on in the 'Street Fighter' series. Though it could be argued that 'Final Fight' wouldn't exist without 'Double Dragon', or that 'Streets Of Rage wouldn't exist without 'Golden Axe'.

At about 7:30, that's not correct. It was called a sequel to Street Fighter, but the whole reason they changed the title was because it was ALWAYS going to be a beat-em-up and arcade distributors at trade shows thought it was confusing that a beat-em-up woudl be a sequel when it was obviously a different type of game.

Finally Streets of Rage 4 on the horizon - I liked both equally for different reasons - I mean streets of rage graphics weren’t on a par with final fight - final fight was so gritty but one thing this video didn’t pinpoint is how tight the gameplay is with final fight - especially regarding enemy attacks and how different enemy combinations on screen really made a difference as to how you played and beat the game - The lacklustre moveset is my biggest gripe - something Streets of rage did very well but the AI In sor is somewhat timid by comparison to final fight and as a result is less of a challenge overall - as for bosses I loved the final fight boss ideas perhaps more so than streets of rage but the bosses moveset in streets of rage was unparalleled in the genre so it’s a tough decision - kudos to Konami beat em ups like violent Storm and my fave vendetta and the true arcade original double dragon

I can't believe they honestly said Streets of Rage has better graphics than Final Fight. Streets of Rage is limited thanks to the inferior Genesis hardware. Even the SNES version of Final Fight looked better than Streets of Rage. The character sprites were all tiny in SoR, used less colors, and had a lot less frames of animation.
