It depends on the RGB output. Megadrive has native RGB and SNES hasn't (at least in most versions)
@inceptional4 ай бұрын
That's not a true representation of how both games would look side by side when viewed under the exact same conditions on a real 4:3 CRT or a modern HDTV via the same RGB or HDMI output or whatever. The Genesis does not have sharper visuals than SNES; this is a lie that's come about as a result of KZbinrs not showing both system under exactly the same conditions most of the time. But the Genesis does typically display more pixels horizontally (although not in every game). And the real effect of this in most cases is simply seeing more view of levels on the horizontal axis. If you're seeing anything other than the same image quality and clarity then it's basically an unintentional and sometimes even intentional lie, which unfortunately happens quite a lot.

@@inceptional and you know this how?
@inceptional4 ай бұрын
@@guyverjay1289 The literal fact of how both these systems work and how both CRTs and modern displays show their visuals. CRT's fire an electron beam at the screen to illuminate the areas of the screen where it hits and have no variation in clarity based on the resolution being displayed like modern pixel displays do, so the games should look identically sharp if both are played and viewed on the same CRT, despite the fact the Genesis has more horizontal pixels. And if they were both being played on a modern HD display via HDMI connections and so on, then both systems can be viewed with equally pin sharp visuals there. If you're seeing more blurry pixels on any SNES vs Genesis video, it's not a comparison that's setup under exactly the same conditions. The only thing you should see on Genesis regarding resolution is more horizontal view of the levels typically. Also, anytime you see SNES graphics slightly horizontally stretched because they're being viewed on a 4:3 CRT, it's a matter of fact that Genesis pixels would be horizontally squashed slightly under the same conditions. Depending on the setup, one is stretched and the other squashed or both are neither. I'm not trying to trick anyone here. I'm just telling the facts as I know them.

I couldn't give the win for sound to the SNES just for how muffled the music sounds. Genesis music sounds so much clearer.
@KungKras4 ай бұрын
I think the extra sharpness and the crisper music should give the graphics and sound wins to the megadrive.
@inceptional4 ай бұрын
There is no extra sharpness. You're taking the capture footage in the video far too literally. Go do just a tiny bit of research and you'll realise that what you're seeing in this video is not both versions being captured under exactly the same conditions. See my latest post above for a link to a clip of both versions side by side captured under the same conditions. They are both either identically perfectly sharp on modern displays or they are both softer with one slightly stretched and one slightly squahed on old CRTs. That is just a fact. Also, the music sounds basically idential to the actual ear--no one gives a sh*t about some random KHz number on paper other than fanboys pretending it matters even when it litrally doesn't like in this example--but the SNES clearly has way more voice samples throughout, so it's totally legit to give the SNES the win for audio here because overall it has the better audio. The fact some people think this is even debatle is just absurd and shows how completely biased some people are, to the point they can't even see and hear the objective reality in front of them anymore. I mean, come on, for God's sake. It's not that hard to just be honest and fair here. Or maybe it actually is for some people.
@KungKras4 ай бұрын
@@inceptional The music isn't identical. It's clearly more muffled on the SNES. Also, the megadrive graphics chip has a higher resolution, so its images are obviously going to be sharper because of the higher resolution. This isn't really up for arguing.
@inceptional4 ай бұрын
@@KungKras No, it's not clearly more muffled on SNES. That's just your fanboy manipulating your ears to hear what you want to be true. And none of you would notice a difference in the slightest without some nerdy direct AB comparison, to the point any difference there is utterly irrelevant in reality. The music sounds basically identical to the ear, but the SNES version clearly and absolutely has far more voice samples throught. So, unless you're a totally biased fanboy trying to win the particular vs battle on nothing burgers, the SNES just wins in terms of the overall audio here. Similarly, they are identically sharp when captured under the same conditions. But, again, your fanboy sees something that confirms your bias, and rather than actually checking it, you just go with the lie. And you clearly don't understand the difference between seeing larger levels horizontally and the actual pixel sharpness. Both versions have idential softness if viewed on an old CRT, with the Genesis having slightly horizontally squashed pixels and the SNES having slighly horizontally stretched visuals. Or, if viewed on a modern display, both can have equaly perfectly proportined pixels with literally zero horizontal stretch or squash and perfect sharpness. The Genesis version has larger levels and no cropping horizontally, but the SNES version counters with proper transparency effects throughout (the dropship shadow, the muzzle flash, the explosions, the camoflaged enemies, etc) and additional weather effects like mist and rain in some levels. These are just simple objective facts.

Sadly Nintendo was going to have a advantage because it came out 4-5 years after Genesis which means it had time to be refined. That being said, I had to disagree with the graphics part. Even with the improvements and extra effects in some places, the issue with the resolution and how it made some things look a little blurry hurts it, while the Genesis one looked fine throughout. To me that little part kinda makes it look less polished compared to Genesis. Gameplay I agree with. Sound is perhaps maybe a tie to me. I like the SNES voice overs and while the SNES music is decent, I felt more connected to Genesis's music. It also sounded like something you could put in some cyberpunk/cyber-horror stuff.
@DrAcOFoto4 ай бұрын
They are definitely not using the SNES RGB cable to capture the video footage, and it shows, as it gives unexperienced people the illusion of being a "little blurry", when the console produces sharp graphics, which you can even check on MyLifeInGaming videos about RGB quality. They could also likely be using a 2CHIP console, instead of a 1CHIP, Jr. or RGB modded Jr. This is not something they could capture through emulation - unlike the Genesis, if they wanted or did - as the SNES port can't be emulated yet.
@Adamtendo_player_14 ай бұрын

I'll just repeat myself: I have to point out some weird inconsistency with the image quality of both versions here, at least to my eyes. If the games were both being played output on a real CRT, there should be no more or less clarity in any version, as that's how the CRT's electron beam works there. So, it looks to me like maybe one is taking footage from a SNES playing via a CRT and the other as if it were a Genesis output on some digital monitor using modern connections or something, which is really not like for like. But that just seems to be what I'm seeing here anyway. I might be wrong, but something seems off there.

I don't see why the point goes to the Snes for two details when everything else is better on Megadrive, knowing that things are missing on Snes. Concerning the text font, it's the same size on Snes than on Megadrive. It's just the resolution that's lower. That's not a good point.

It's also not a good point to be literally so ignorant of what you're seeing that you claim the Genesis version has more detailed graphics when what it actually has is just larger levels horizontally but ultimately the exact same level of detail per tile for both the backgrounds and sprites. Both versions are also identically sharp when actually viewed via the exact same connections and video capture sources, etc. And either neither is stretched or squashed if viewed on modern displays, or one is stretched and the other squashed if viewed on old CRTs. This video does not reflect that accurately, but that is a plain fact. And, with that being a fact, it comes down to whether you think having slightly larger levels horizontally and no cropping at the edges of that first boss equals better graphics than having ever so slightly nicer colours, proper transparency throughout (the dropship shadow, muzzle flashes, grenade explosions, the camouflage enemies, etc), and additional weather effects like mist and rain in some levels. On that people can take their pick. And my personal pick would be for the SNES in this case, which it seems the Console Wars guys ultimately agreed with me on.
@geminielectro4 ай бұрын
@@inceptional I'm not ignorant. I respect your point of view and you can prefer the Snes version. You talk about judging on a CRT, except that's not the case here. Maybe you watch YT on a CRT screen, I don't. The weather additions are cool features. But a better resolution seems more details. In the cut scenes, the Megadrive shows more pixels wich means more details. In game, there are more tiles on Megadrive, and yes, the Snes version is stetched and cutted. All this is visible at a glance. From my point of view, all these graphic additions, which are welcome, are not essential and I prefer a better resolution which gives more detailed graphics overall. Concerning the text font, imo, saying that it's the same size on Snes than on Megadrive because it's just the resolution that's lower can't be a good point. You gave your opinion, I gave mine. Some people will think I'm right and some will think the same as you, which just goes to show that rating graphics is pretty subjective. You'll notice that I'm not calling everything into question either, because I still think that the Snes version is superior in terms of sound and gameplay, with a controller that's really made for this type of game.
@inceptional4 ай бұрын
@@geminielectro The point of my CRT example is not the CRT, but viewing these games under the same conditions. You can play both versions on a CRT or a modern display, but people can't just proclaim one more blurry by viewing CRT footage next to modern display footage. When both are captured under the same conditions they will both look exactly the same in terms of sharpness and clarity. That's just a fact, and that's my point there. The only extra in-game "details" due to the increased horizontal resolution is larger levels horizontally on Genesis. But, pixel for pixel in the tiles, they are basically identical in terms of detail and sharpness during gameplay. The cutscenes have more pixels horizontally on Genesis, this is true. But, unlike with the levels, they look basically idential without someone doing some direct AB comparison. I garantee you literally only noticed the difference in the cutscenes because of this kind of AB comparison--just as I did. These utterly miniscule kinds of differences are pedantic and irrelvant in reality. It's exactly the same with people claiming Genesis sounds better because they think the SNES version is more "muffled", when in reality the music sounds pretty much idential without direct AB comparison, whereas the much greater number of voice samples of SNES are patently obvious to everyone immediately. So, if not being biased, the SNES simply wins there. And on Genesis the visuals are horizonally squashed if we're going with the same conditions that make the SNES visuals horizontally stretched. Fact. From my point of view the slightly more pixels in the cutscenes on Genesis are utterly irrlevant, the extra horiontal tiles in the levels is a bonus for Genesis, the first boss not being cropped and the later not being mirrord on Genesis is a bonus, the stretch/squash equals out, the proper transparency throughout on SNES is a bonus, and the additional weather effects on SNES are a bonus. So people can take their pick, but I'l go with SNES there, just like the Console Wars guys did. But my main point here is that anyone saying the SNES version is more blurry and mentioning it being stretched while not mentioning the Genesis would be just as blurry and also squashed when captured the same way is either confused or just disingenuous and/or outright lying to everyone. The font size difference is utterly absurd. One person might prefer larger text, the other might prefer the smaller text. And it's 100% not because of some limitation on the SNES. This is a complete and utter nothing burger imo, which is exactly why the video made fun of even bringing it up. How do any of us know they didn't reduce the score/intro text size to actually look nicer this time around. Because, with BG3 the SNES could have used that to show even larger text if desired, yet they didn't go with that. All I'm really calling out here mainly is anyone instantly claiming the SNES version is more blurry and stretched or whatever without understanding the relative facts properly. It's 100% not more blurry, and if we're considering the SNES version as seen on a CRT, then we have to consider the Genesis version as seen on a CRT too, or else the comparison is utterly skewed, biased, and basically a total lie. When captured under the same conditions, both games will either be similarly blurry and stretched or squashed, or they will both be perfectly sharp and have no stretch or squash. And that's just the truth.
@geminielectro4 ай бұрын
@@inceptional I never said that the Snes version is blurry, just that the overall resolution is better on the Megadrive. Displaying more pixels makes for finer graphics. What's more, you keep talking about capture in the same conditions, but that's the case here. You also say that you can't see the difference if you don't make a direct AB comparison, except that here we're judging on a direct AB comparison. Then, you said: "on Genesis the visuals are horizonally squashed if we're going with the same conditions that make the SNES visuals horizontally stretched. Fact." But no. If you look at it, you can even count the pixels: the vertical resolution is the same on both versions. I don't know why you continue to deny what is visible on the screen.

I love how just days ago they announced a GBA version of the game making Console Wars' very thorough listing of all the platforms for Xeno Crisis out of date already. Another fun one here. I could tell Pat had a thing for the alien despite not letting on about it. As for the comparison, I'll just say that I've looked for proper comparisons before and never could really find anything good, so this is the best reference I've seen taking a look at the changes made to the SNES version. I knew there would have to be some changes for the worse, but also great to see that they took advantage of the hardware where they could, along with making that tweak to the roll. I still haven't played this one.
